Daughter's Perfume Giving Ken Gets Redressed, Too

Decent-looking Ken Fashionistas fashions and Perfume Giving Ken from 1988

I had no immediate plans to bring Daughter's Perfume Giving Ken (PGK) up to date until yesterday's trip to Wal-Mart.  I was pleased to find and purchase the above two Ken Fashionistas fashions that actually look decent enough for a male doll to wear.  The fashions are from assortment N8329, #'s W3162 (blue sweater) and W3160 (striped tank and straw hat).

Since fall is here, I decided to redress PGK in the blue sweater and gray corduroy pants. The other outfit will be saved for warmer weather; or for another male doll that might surface in need of something to wear, who does not mind dressing out of season.

PGK holds the gray corduroys

After opening the fashion, I was in for a surprise.   Made for the slim, Fashionistas male body, the only thing muscular PGK can do with the pants of this fashion is hold them!  Maybe Barbie Basics Model 17 can wear these or maybe... just maybe, Mattel will add a dark skinned male to the Fashionistas line.  With this discovery, it retreated to the on-hand male doll/clothing stash.

After playing Musical Chairs with several fashions and shoes worn by other male dolls, I found a combination that fits PGK that did not leave anyone else fashion-less or shoe-less.

From left to right:  PGK wears another Ken fashion formerly worn by Terrence Howard who now wears Rocawear Darren's shirt and a pair of Old Joe Infirmary jeans.  Terrence wears a World Peacekeeper's (WPK) shoes.  WPK wears sneakers purchased from Old Joe Infirmary.  Ultra Corps guy wears Rocawear Darren's shoes.  Rocawear Darren wears Ken gray and turquoise jogging suit.

Finally, Daughter's PGK is back with the ladies that have kept him company for some 23 years, looking oh so fine.  In unison the ladies said, "We agree!"

  1. "Musical chairs" is a very good term for what goes on with my Ken fashions as well. It's a never ending puzzle on how to put them all together so that no one ends up naked or with ill fitting clothes, using just the few good pieces of clothing :) It's so sad that they didn't make the new Fashionista Kens a little bit bigger, so that they could share clothes with their predecessors!
Your guys ended up very good looking though, I especially like the two in the middle (Terrence and WPG, I think).

  2. Hey Alrunia -- yes, the two in the middle are T. Howard and the World Peace Keepers guy. I'll have to correct the blog; I referred to him as World Peacegivers. Sometimes it's difficult to keep up with their names and giving them individual names would be even more difficult for me.

    Glad you enjoyed.

  3. PKG Ken is very handsome. I don't think the shirt is quite his color but there are so few male clothes available what can you do?

  4. Limbe Dolls,

It's the shoes that are not quite PGK's color. Red sneakers? I chose this shirt because it picks up one color in the ladies' outfits. You're right; there's not much you can do for male clothing, unless you can sew.

  5. Considering your dilemma, he turned out quite nice and I agree that his outfit works really well with the ladies. I can't believe they didn't make those new outfits bigger.

  6. Thanks, Vanessa!

Mattel has lots of room for improvement in the area of Ken clothing -- size, style, and color-wise.

  7. You performed a great switcheroo and all of the guys look great.

I also love, love, love the artwork at the top of your page. The sweet little girl with her dolls is just too cute and oh so perfect for your blog.

  9. I was wanting to buy my cousin some Fashionistas Ken outfits to fit the current, non-articulated Rocawear Darren. Would you happen to know if these clothes would fit him? I saw that your Darren is wearing a Ken jogging suit, but I can't tell if his jacket would close from this photo.

Thanks for your time. I'm a new reader of your blog and I've really enjoyed exploring older entries like this one.

  10. S.I.S Darren can wear some of the Ken Fashionista fashions, but I am not sure that he can wear all. The Valentine's suits (there are two) fit Darren as well as the aqua sports fashion. I do not believe he can wear the skinny jeans included in fashion #N8329W3160 which also includes a green, white, and blue tank top, straw hat, glasses, and blue shoes. Some of the Fashionistas shoes are a little big on Darren, but that can be remedied by placing folded tissue paper inside the shoes. Hope this helps!

  11. Thank you so much for your quick response. I was hoping the suits would fit; Darren is super cute, but he's only been released in casual clothes so far and most of my cousin's dolls are dressed in princessy prom dresses, so I wanted him to match!

Thanks for your advice about tissue paper in the shoes for a snugger fit; I don't think my cousin would have the patience for it since she's so young, but my mom's an avid Barbie collector; I'm sure she'll find this information useful if she hasn't already come across it herself.

    1. You are welcome! Glad to be of help. With socks on, the shoes will probably fit Darren, but I don't think Mattel furnishes socks. Shame on them.

I've also wrapped dolls' feet with Saran wrap to help their closed toe shoes fit more securely. This might be something your niece won't mind doing.

      :-)
