Use It Or Lose It

Earlier today I had one more Barbie Fan Club reward left valued at $20 to use toward a purchase at BarbieCollector.com before it expired at 12 AM on 01/01/13.  Even though there was not much for me to choose from at the BarbieCollector.com site, I decided to place an order today.

I had hoped they would offer an end-of-year sale and/or free site-wide shipping on orders in any amount.  There has been no such luck.  So today, without much enthusiasm, I ordered the following two items.

City Shopper Barbie as seen in this Mattel Stock Photo has an unfortunate ModelMuse body, but her fashion and accessories are probably worth her final cost.

This Doll for a Day Headband shown in another Mattel stock photo, was $5 before the discount.  I was more enthused about it than City Shopper because I will wear it, particularly since the Barbie logo will not be exposed!

With shipping and tax, these two items totaled $19.09 (which is less than the doll's retail of $24.99, but I really did not save much when shipping and tax are factored in.)

Have you ever spent money to save money?  SMH at myself.

    1. Thanks, Doll Party. I won't feel bad and will probably be happy once I see the doll in person (for the fashion and accessories). Not sure if I will rebody her or not, but that is a strong possibility.

  2. I have been confronted with such situations before but I always refuse to spend at all, as anyone in marketing can attest to, those 'limited time only' things are just a ruse to rack up revenue.

Like - yes it's a $20 voucher, no I can't get anything worthwhile with $20, and yes if I resist the urge to spend that $20 for the rest of the year I can get a HUGE 22" fashion doll brand new next spring... lol

  3. Yes, I've spent money to save it on something else. That's normal, lol. Got to take your bargins where you find them.

  4. I have, but only if it's worth it. If something is on sale that I don't really need/want badly, then I pass it up. But if I get a coupon ($10 off any purchase at Kohls) and I can find something I need or really want, and it's only going to end up costing me $2, I'll jump on it :)

    1. I have done that at local stores, too, without regret. JC Penny gives 10 dollar coupons occasionally off any purchase. I have used tose before.
