Janay Chose #1 Reese

The reader is referred to yesterday's post where I questioned which body would be the best choice for the separately purchased Janay head, the connector of which was throwing me for a loop (no pun intended).

Integrity Toys Reese (the body of ) holds the Janay and Reese heads.

Thanks to Paulette of Limbe Doll's explanation of how she handles such connectors, Janay and I decided to allow IT's Dynamite Girl Reese #1 to be the body donor.

I gingerly removed Reese's head, not knowing what to expect as far as knob or connector, and was pleased to see the rotational flat knob attached to her body.  I initially tried to attach Janay's head, but the vinyl parts were too firm to press the head onto the body.  I softened the neck opening of Janay's head by inserting that area only into a shallow bowl of boiled water.  I protected my already-injured right hand from the heat by wearing a potholder as I held the lower portion of the head into the steaming water for approximately 30 seconds.

Initially I was going to free Janay's Afro puffs, but decided to leave them in place because they work well with her new fashion.  But... she needed earrings.  So I fashioned some for her using a pair on hand that I purchased at a 99 cents jewelry store.

Earrings used to create a doll-sized pair

Keeping the hooks of the earrings in place, I cut off the first disks of each.  Next, I straightened the hooks and created a 45-degree angle.  I used a pushpin to pierce Janay's earlobes as illustrated below.

Janay gets her ears pieced using a pushpin.
Janay styles and profiles her new body and new earrings in the following images.

Janay loves her new earrings.

She enjoys the fashion without the jacket.

Janay took a final photo outside in the sun.
The body-head complexion match is not 100%, but I have always loved Reese's 70's inspired brown sueded hot-pants, slate blue halter top, and orange tweed coat. Unfortunately, I could never fully bond with Reese's head sculpt. So now everything has worked out well!

Thanks again Paulette!  Janay thanks you, too.  I am uncertain how Reese is feeling, but she'll get over the trauma.

  4. Love her on her new body. Cute earrings, too. My Janays have always been a challenge to rebody. Antoinette is still walking around saying she has vitilago (sp? too lazy to check) because her body is lighter than her face.

  5. Cat, Rox, Paulette, and Vanessa - Thanks for commenting.

Poor Antoinette. But had you not mentioned her condition, I probably would never have noticed, Vanessa.

  6. That's a great swap and the skin tone difference is really slight. Thanks for showing using the pushpin to make her earring hole! That is so much easier than how I've been doing it. I gotta get me some pushpins.

    1. Yes, the complexion difference is very slight, Muff.

The pushpin works like a charm. Depending on how firm the vinyl is, you may have to twist it in the earlobe. I didn't have to do that for Janay, but I did have to twist it as I removed it because the vinyl seemed to cling to the pin. The hole also seemed to close up some after I removed the pin, so I inserted it in once again and then immediately inserted the straightened loop of the earring.

I rarely have used the heated needletip technique of piercing a doll's ears.

    1. Thanks Mustiwait! Janay is expressing her inner Basketball Wives earring fashion sense, but not behavior.

  8. Great match! I used that body for another Janay head. I love the earrings on your doll.

BTW, the Janay dolls were Integrity Toys' playline; they were not part of the FR series ;-)

  9. I just love swapping heads. All dolls need to move! The Dynamite girls are my favorite of the articulated bodies, such smooth movement. Due to their price, I used on sale fashionista bodies when I swap heads.
