Detroit Doll Show Article and Slide Show

These dolls illustrate the evolution of black dolls from mammy to model.

At the link below, view a video narrative by Ms. Terry Crawford, President of Motor City Doll Club of Detroit and read the accompanying article on Sandra Epps' 2nd Detroit Doll Show, written by Donna Terek. Some of my vintage-to-modern dolls are included in the slide show that complements the article.

  3. Black dolls have evolved into more positive images. While all consumers' doll needs are not yet met, strides have been made throughout the years toward this end.

    1. Hi Muff,

I had to gather these photos with very short notice after the reporter contacted me. She specfically wanted photographs of Topsy and Mammy dolls but had seen some of my natural-hair fashion dolls on FB and requested those as well.

I really enjoyed Terry Crawford's narrative and how well the slide show images were used to complement what she said.
