I keep finding and buying...

Found at thrift store, ©2008 Chic doll

...these copyright 2008 Chic dolls.  This is the second one with this complexion that I have found at the local thrift store.  One with a darker complexion was found first and another like this newest-one-to-me was found next.

All three have the same head sculpt.  The one on the far right has the deepest complexion.

Bushy hair in need of taming
Because of her coarse, slightly unruly, poor quality hair, I gave this one a boil perm after saturating the hair with mousse and rolling it using pipe cleaners cut into several, approximately 2-inch pieces.

Hair has been rolled and ready to be dipped into a cup of boiled water for a few seconds.

I used mousse because wetting the hair alone would not give the hair the necessary slip to smooth it out and help the pipe cleaners remain in place.

After dipping the head into a cup of boiled water, the pipe cleaners remained in place for 24 hours while the hair air dried.

Pipe cleaners have been removed.  Finger combing was done next.

Hair has been finger combed and doll dressed in a Sparkle Girlz fashion.

Because of her super thin body, I dressed her in a Sparkle Girlz fashion, the shorts of which are a little large.  Her new companion, who has now been dressed, loves her new look.

Chic Boutique doll poses with new beau, who has been identified as a Super Star Ken Clone or KC.  KC wears Cali Guy Steven's fashion (who is now Happy Family Birthday Grandpa.  Remember him?).

  3. Her hair is inspiring!

You're giving me hope for tackling the hair of my orange-y tan Chic Boutique gal, who needs a dramatic look.

    1. I hope I have inspired you, Smaller Places. A boil perm is worth a try. The hair quality they use is quite inferior on these dolls. I've never seen a new one and wonder about the original texture. Does it get rough through doll's play or is is just "naturally" rough?

  4. Is she smaller than the other two, or is that just the way the pictures look? I love that face sculpt. Nice job on the hairdo. She still has a little too much hair for that little body. Lol.

    1. They're the same height, Vanessa. The other two probably look taller because the surface on which they were standing was not even with the two end dolls positioned slightly higher than the one in the middle. The other two were also wearing shoes which added a little height.

Yes. The hair is big. She's taking it back to the 80s.

    1. Thank you Simsgrl. It could use a little more gentle finger combing. It is much better than the before state.

  6. Looking good! Are those straight pin earrings?

    1. She's wearing real stud earrings that are not the proper scale. I have used quilting needles as earrings but sometimes the stem is too long and will pierce the side of the doll's face if not careful. Thanks for the reminder that I actually have some with pastel colored beads on the end that have a smaller stem. Those will be perfect for her!

    1. They do have appealing faces. KC was the first guy she noticed. Their relationship was inevitable.

  9. Great job on the hair! I love big hair! I remember when Big Lots sold these dolls. I have not seen these in a long while.

    1. Thanks, GG! I bet Big Lots is where these originated. This explains why I am finding them so often. I don't recall ever seeing them there, however.

    1. Thank you, Ms. Leo. I want to go to the thrift store today, but it's Monday, raining, and they probably haven't had an opportunity to stock very much. I'll try to get there tomorrow in hopes of finding a different playscale doll or two. I think three Chic dolls will be enough for me, however.
