Chelsea, Friend of Kelly

Friend of Kelly, Chelsea

On a late-June day, I browsed the Barbie section of Walmart and found this lone Chelsea among the other Kelly and Friend of Kelly dolls.  After examining her, I appreciated her, now rarely seen, deep complexion.  One of the most recent friends of Kelly, Tamika, has a cafΓ© au lait complexion and I had not seen a truly brown friend in quite a while.  Even though I am not a fan of molded-on clothing (the bodice of her leotard is molded on) and I am not a fan of painted-on tights, I brought her home.   Her removable shoes are refreshing.

Fashionista 5 (Goddess) and Chelsea display well together.

Still in the box, I positioned Chelsea on my desk, where most new dolls are stationed until their entries have been recorded in my spreadsheet.  I noticed how well she pairs with one of the two Fashionistas I recently purchased (who, even though their entries have been recorded, remain on my desk along with one other doll).

If I debox Chelsea, she and Goddess will remain paired together, at least until Goddess is redressed.  I am hoping Mattel releases the Live, Love, Laugh-themed fashion as a separate, seen below.

Facebook Barbie page-captured photo illustrates Goddess (Fashionista 5) in her original fashion and in a Live Love Laugh (LLL)-themed fashion that includes black faux leather pants, black strappy sandals, and white wristlet.  If the LLL fashion is released, this will be a must-have for me.

  1. Hello Debbie,
This Chelsea doll is really cute with her darker complexion. You were right to purchase her.
Goddess will look fantastic in the LLL outfit.

    1. Thank you, Arlette! I couldn't leave Chelsea. Right now she is with my other boxed Kellys. I should gather them all and devote a blog to them.

  2. Mattel sells the Live Love Laugh top as a seperate, but the pants and shoes are from other dolls.

I love that outfit too! (The shoes are from the new Barbie resort/beach doll with articulated arms.)

    1. Thanks, Linda!

I guess I won't be getting the complete outfit anytime soon. Havilland informed that the top is sold separately and the other pieces are from other dolls.

I might purchase the top for Goddess and allow her to borrow these leggings that were made by Shasha.

  5. Cute! I haven't looked at these very carefully (I hate this trend of moulded-on clothing - I suppose it must save on production expenses, but it really limits the play value, which is such a a shame), so I hadn't realized how charming she was.

And wow, love the sandals on that second Facebook photo!

    1. Cutting production costs has to be the reason for the molded-on clothing, jSarie.

      Yes, those sandals are nice!

  6. What a difference an outfit makes! I totally poo poo'd this doll when I first saw her but in the LLL outfit she looks darn cool. If they release her in that full ensemble I would get her and remove that lipstick color. I already have a singular LLL top but wouldn't mind a second if I could get those pants and shoes.

    1. Hi Muff,

We won't have any luck with Mattel releasing any doll in this ensemble. Havilland let me know that the top is sold separately; you have it so you already knew that. I am not sure who the pants belong to but the sandals are part of Resort Beach Barbie's fashion.

As bad as I would hate to do it, I might have to buy the doll for the sandals.

    2. Well, poop. I saw the Mattel copyright and thought it was a real upcoming release.

    3. I made the same mistake. That picture was captured from Facebook but on their office Barbie FB page. Now I know they can and will show photos of dolls that might not necessarily be marketed the way they are portrayed in their FB images. :-(

Where did you find the LLL top? I am sure I can probably get it less than $4 locally. I have seen Mattel's individually packaged separates (not complete fashions) on cards at Walmart but haven't really bothered to thumb through them because they are priced higher than the Sparkle Girls complete ensembles.

    4. I got it at Walmart. I believe it was $3.89 at the time.

    5. Dang... I might as well order online. $3.89 for "one" top? Geesh! You know I'm cheap, right?
