New Fashionista, Waiting on One More

New Fashionista Barbie has an Asian-African American look

This girl was supposed to be a travel companion for Carlyle Nuera's Claudette Gordon.  Both were ordered on the same date from TheBarbieCollection.com (formerly known as BarbieCollector.com); however, Claudette's flight was delayed.  I am expecting Claudette to arrive later today.  While free time permits (of which I have very little these days), I wanted to post the initial and additional photos of this lovely auburn haired doll.

Wearing a pink and turquoise print romper, she carries a turquoise shoulder bag and wears beige sandals on her flat feet. Bronze diamond-shaped earrings complete her casual look.

Her auburn hair has red streaks.
The beauty mark below her left eye adds to her appealing appearance.
After deboxing, I discovered a dark smudge on the right side of her lovely face and another discoloration in the vinyl on her forehead.  Both areas are too faint for my camera to capture, but because I see them, the plan is to call Mattel for a replacement.  Even though the price was only $10.99, I expect at least a flawless face.

This doll is the final one in the new collection of Barbie Fashionistas that I desire.

At the time of ordering Claudette and the Asian-African American-looking fashionista, the above doll was not available at TheBarbieCollection website.  At the time of this writing, a couple of Amazon sellers are offering the doll for triple the amount of retail!  I choose to wait until a retail-priced doll is available.

  1. Oh Debbie, she is beautiful. At first I thought she had short hair and I was about to jump all other the place and try to get one. It is not the case but she still is gorgeous. I hope you will receive the other one soon and find the time to show us some photos.
I also hope you will get a replacement doll. By the way the last doll you have shown us is really pretty. Hoping that you won't have to wait too long for the retail price dolls.
    Hugs,
    Arlette

    1. Thank you, Arlette! Do you prefer dolls with short hair? You know a good pair of scissors always comes in handy for giving a fresh cut. I have only done it a few times out of necessity. I do think that long flowing hair is used far too often for dolls, but that is the way of the doll hair-styling world.

    2. It is not that I prefer dolls with short hair, it is just that she would have looked almost like my sister with short hair.
This doll is beautiful the way she is.

  4. I also got this doll on BC website. I ordered Claudette as soon as she became available for order, but she was backordered. I got a notice yesterday that she had been shipped. Can't wait to get her! I also want to get the doll with the pink jeans and saw her on Amazon as well at the super inflated price. I am waiting too.

    1. I hope the one you want Phyllis either shows up locally or online at retail soon.

I just returned from the PO mailing the doll back to Mattel at my expense. I didn't request a replacement, but probably should have. My thought was that the doll might be sold out by the time the returned doll arrives to Mattel, who said "if" they determine the doll is flawed they will refund my shipping charges and instructed me to include proof of return postage in the package, which I did do.

I hope the doll is here at Walmart or elsewhere or that TheBarbieCollector website gets the other one in stock before this one sells out so I can order both and pay a one-time shipping charge. I also hope the replacement doll is without flaws.

    2. I just saw a few of the one with the Auburn hair at my target! They also had some of the LA Girl doll, which is now sold out at Barbie Collector.com. Keep checking!

    3. I replaced the auburn haired one yesterday, found at Walmart for $7.94. They didn't have the LA Girl or the other one I want in the blue sweater with blue eyes. I might check another Walmart this week and possibly Target since they are in the same vicinity. Thanks for the heads up.

    1. Thanks, Linda. Went to Walmart today. They had her and others in the new Fashionista collection for $7.94, less than I paid at TheBarbieCollector.com.

  6. She is a beauty! I was in Target for something else, and decided to stop by the toy department before I headed out. There she was, along with the doll with the flocked blonde hair on one side and pink-streaked hair on the other, and the one with the brown hair and single braid strand. I scooped them all up. There were some of the very "Barbie" looking blondes that I passed up.

It's really exciting that Mattel is producing so many different dolls by skin tones and hairstyles. Now if they were only articulated!

I ordered Claudette Gordon as soon as the website allowed us; that first day was a disaster. However, I haven't received a shipping notice yet even though the order shows as "closed" on the website. I'm hoping that she arrives soon.

    1. I am glad you were able to get this one and the blonde with the cool haircut. I didn't see her today while at Walmart, but I was able to replace this one. Walmart had them (as I posted earlier in another comment) for $7.94. They had lots of the guys. Actually they had several different females except the other one I posted about that's on my wish list.

My Claudette arrived today. I just took her initial photos. She is stunning!!!! Your doll has probably shipped. Someone else received theirs today who indicated she did not know the doll was coming. So I guess some people were notified and others were not unless some of the notifications went to the recipients' spam or junk folders.

  7. I was getting ready to tell you Debbie that she is beginning to show up at Walmart, but then I read on down the post that you were able to get her at Walmart. That is great!

I agree with you that she looks to like African American/Asian descent. That is what she will be in my stories. I have found a few of the Fashionistas, but not the one that you have shown above. I am hoping that she will show up soon. I so hate that Mattel does not make them articulated. That sucks really bad. I do not care for the flat feet. Some people actually love them. I am a heels girl, so I like them for my dolls as well.

    Happy Sunday!

    1. Happy Sunday to you, GG. Yes, I found my replacement yesterday. I will look at another Walmart and Target this week for the other one.

I prefer articulation, too. The flat feet really don't bother me because I'm a flat shoe kinda girl. :-) Heels make my back hurt; and when I do wear them they are no higher than 2 inches. I'm just grounded that way, I guess. :-)

  8. Beautiful dolls! I've really got my heart set on the second one. She's got the sweetest face.

Also, I finally posted my answers to the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers award! It's the second most recent post on my blog.

  9. Very nice! Some times you see the stock photo but the doll isn't as good. She holds up! I am hoping to get a few of the new girls to add to my collection. Her smile is soo much better than the one that they gave the smiling S.I.S. dolls. I can see that she is also a good candidate for an ooak treatment. Congrats!

    1. Thanks, Ms. Leo. Hope you are able to find her and the others you want in your area.

This one, as you mentioned, does have a nice smile. Just slightly parted lips and a hint of teeth showing make it perfect.

    1. Mattel really outdid themselves in the new head scupt/skin complexion departments this year. Had these dolls been articulated, it would be on in my world and I'm sure the world of several others.

I hear next year will be different... articulation and more of it will be back!
