Even though the doll is currently one-of-a-kind, this is an epic move for Mattel. If rumors are true, the doll will be mass produced in 2018.

This is terrific news. Go Mattel!
ReplyDeleteI agree, Gini. I hope the doll is mass produced.

They eventually released the Ava du Vernay & Gabby Douglas dolls so this should seethe Ibtihaj Muhammad doll produced. I saw on the Barbie Style Instagram another doll wearing a Hijab which was pretty exciting. I know that the Middle East has their own fashion doll but I definitely know if released I would pick them up...really think Mattel should think about including traditionally dressed Muslim dolls into their fashionista line...or at least offer a line that is respectful to the religion and their beliefs but that can sit alongside the current Barbie doll line up...it seems appropriate and a great time to expand the concept of the Barbie line further.
ReplyDeleteIf the Ibtihaj Barbie is mass produced, including an extra traditional Muslim fashion would be a way for Mattel to "kill two birds with one stone." Seeing Ms. Muhammad in her fencing attire is wonderful and it will be equally nice for the doll to have something else that a Muslim woman would wear as well.

There I go again duplicating myself. :-)
DeleteI found this photo on Facebook, Julius. The red carpet, Glamour Women of the Year Awards fashion the Ibtihaj Barbie wears would be the perfect extra fashion for the production doll. Don't you agree?

Yes, that’s the photo I saw and yes, that’s a fabulous option to include...remember those deluxe Barbie gift sets back in the day “and an extra outfit” or “there’s a ring for you and a tiara for Barbie!”...it would be so awesome to also see a Muslim version of the S.I.S doll line, that would be cool. π
DeleteI do remember those deluxe Barbie gift sets. I won't hold my breath for Mattel to create a Muslim version of the S.I.S. line, however.

Wow. she's a lovely doll. Mattel seems to have done an excellent likeness. I hope that this doll IS mass-produced. She is on my Wish List.
ReplyDeleteAlas, I doubt that the S.I.S. line will be produced again. Possibly Mattel will create another Black doll line. Hoping, hoping ;-)
I hope you are able to get her if mass produced.
