Fuchsia 'n Fur Francie Has Arrived!

Fuchsia 'n Fur Francie by Black Doll Enthusiast
Fuchsia 'n Fur Francie, a photo by Black Doll Enthusiast on Flickr.
Fuchsia 'n Fur Francie arrived this afternoon. I took several photos of her including her shipper. All have been uploaded to flicker.

Mattel's use of Velcro on her cap is disappointing. A snap would have been more appropriate for the time period the doll represents. Otherwise, I love her!

View her photo shoot here.

  2. Thanks, Jorge! I am pleased with Francie (except for the Velcro on her cap). I need to restyle her hair or give it more of a pageboy look. The ends are too straight.

I don't use Flickr much. I have used it in the past when eBay was charging for auction photos. I'd upload the photos to Flickr, then insert the image codes into the item description to save on eBay's previous 15 cents per extra image fee. Now that eBay gives sellers up to 12 free photos per listing, I haven't used Flickr very much.

Flickr does come in handy when I want to upload an image and create a blog directly from there using an image, like I did with this post. When other users allow photo sharing, blogs can be created using their images, too. It has its advantages.

I'll have to visit you on Flickr now.

  3. Although as poorly stitched on as that velcro is, you could easily pick out the stitches and then sew a tiny snap in its place.

    1. Hi Erin,

Replacing the Velcro is an option. Thanks for the suggestion, but I doubt that I will do it.

Since removing it, Francie chooses not to ever wear the hat because it gives her "hat head."

  8. Vanessa, Limbe Dolls, D7ana, and Marta - Thanks for the congrats. I hope you viewed the photos today and not yesterday when I was too eager to photograph Francie and neglected to comb her hair. She had major hat head going on in the first close-up photo that was in the Flickr set. I combed her hair this morning, trimmed some of the uneven ends, rephotographed her, added the new photos to the Flickr set, and deleted the original close-up from yesterday.

  9. I never noticed that she had rooted lashes in the promo photos. They make her seem even more flirty! Congrats on her arrival.

    1. Thank you again Georgia Girl. I like her dress. The wet-look portion of the top reminds me of a wet look dress I wore during the 70s. Those fishnets are on point, too! Well... I guess everything about her outfit is on point because women loved their faux fur and rabbit coats back in the day.

  11. Congratz! I just love Francie. I had thought about purchasing her too! This face sulpt looks closer to the vintage Francie. The Wild Bunch and Glad about had a flatter nose and the Smashin' Satin's head seemed to be narrower. The new Fushia N Fur looks spot on! I can just see someone re-rooting and re-dress her to give her the vintage look!

Is she on a slim Francie body? I couldn't tell from photos. In photos her legs look curvy and not the thin legs of the older doll. BTW, Is it wrong to wish for articulation on this type of doll? Is just the body silkstone or is the head too.

As I was reading about the velcro on the hat, I looked at my boxed (one of the few dolls I kept boxed) Wild Bunch Francie. That hat has a gold ball button! You are right, a snap or button would been more in keeping with this doll. Well congrats and I will check out your flickr again too!

    1. Hi Miss Leo,

Maybe this weekend I can do a head comparison using FnF Francie and my original childhood Francie. Maybe I'll even be motivated to debox (enough) my WB Francie to include her in the comparison as well. I haven't noticed a difference in the head sculpts. They all (the three I've mentioned) appear alike to me, but you never know until you really examine them up close and personal. I'll try to do that this weekend.

FnF Francie is on a slim body similar to the original or identical to the original Francie's body, but I will let you know for sure when I do the comparison. She has shapely legs. Mattel may have used the Silkstone body for this one (and now that I think about it, they probably did). I'll compare my AA Silkstone Barbie's body with FnF Francie's when I post the comparison. You have created another blog!

FnF Francie's head is as firm as her body, so I am going to conclude that the head is also Silkstone.

With reference to articulation, of course it would be nice. If she were articulated, she could not be called a true reproduction of the original doll, however.

Stay tuned for the weekend post that you have written through me.

      :-)
