Head Shots, List Price So In Style Baby Phat Dolls

This is a teaser because at the time of this writing, the So In Style Barbie Baby Phat dolls are currently out of stock at ToyCountry.com.  I am writing because yesterday their website had some really nice, over-sized close-ups of the four articulated playscale dolls dressed in super stylish Baby Phat gear.  By the time I was ready to publish this post, unfortunately those head shots had been removed.  From their full view images, I was able to create head shots for the purpose of this blog.  I also wanted to share their list price.

According to their website, the dolls list for $11.99.  Toy Country's price is $11.94  Below are the head shots -- all except Chandra's were generated from Toy Country images.

So In Style Barbie Baby Phat Dolls:  Chandra, Kara, Marisa, and Grace

I called Toy Country yesterday to see if I could get an estimate on when stock would be replenished.  After confirming they were, in fact, out of stock, I was told they will reorder but they could not provide an estimate on when a new shipment would arrive because delivery is at Mattel's discretion and each vendor is allotted a limited quantity.

Toy Country's website has a "stock alert" feature for those who would like to be notified when the dolls are back in stock and hopefully that will be sooner than later.  According to their website, shipping is always free for orders of $50 and more.

Disclaimer:  I have not ordered from Toy Country before, but wanted to share the head shots as well as the list price in case someone wondered how much these articulated, fashionable dolls cost.  Thanks Mattel, and thanks Stephen Sumner for your awesome designs and listening to the voice of the SIS collector.  It appears you came through for us with these!

Conduct a search at Toy Country to access the ordering page for all four dolls by entering "so in style barbie baby phat" in the search box and clicking "Go."  (http://www.toy country.com/store/home.php)  Even though the images of the dolls may not be visible, you can click each image thumbnail to see the full-length view of the dolls.  There is also a link on the ordering page to fill out the "stock alert" feature.

Happy hunting!

  1. I think I might take Vanessa's advice and glomp onto the Chandra as soon as I see her - assuming she's still the $12 list price. If Target pulls that $24.89 crap they did last time, I'm out!

    1. I was in my local Target this afternoon and found ONE S.I.S. Babyphat Trichelle. Not realizing she's a 2013 model (as I'd not seen her before), I took her for a price check at one of the store's scanners - it came up null ("no price listed for this item"). So I took her along with me to checkout and the cashier asked the manager over. I explained she was the only one I found and no vin #/shelf tag for her on the shelf amongst all the Barbie things. He asked me how much I thought she might be and I told him I'd bought 3 Fashionista dolls for Christmas at $11.99 each, so I wasn't sure. He said,"How about I let you have her for $9.99?". I said, "I'm in love! I'll take her!" I'm not collecting for the sake of box display - I deboxed her at home. Her outfit is actually a 1 piece, sewn to appear as 3 pieces with the Babyphat black cat logo on the pink under-bodice of the dress. She was holding a pair of yellow-tinted purple aviator style sunglasses in her left hand, a pair of black platform sandals attached to a faux Babyphat(cardboard) briefcase bag in her right hand; she's wearing a pink plastic hairband with "Babyphat" lettered as a repeating print; and she's wearing faux silver (plastic) wide hoop earrings. She is articulated at the head/neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees, and hips/thighs. There is no waist/midriff articulation as with the Fashionista dolls. Her knee joints are not attractive - Fashionistas appear to have an overlap that resembles a kneecap - this 2013 Babyphat Trichelle doesn't. I'm going to have to buy or make that child some slacks or jeans or longer skirts. Overall, she is a very attractive doll, (and no glaringly white teeth showing...YAY!).
I know I lucked out getting her for that price. I was having a good day - it happens sometimes!
Thanks for allowing me to comment on this subject.

    2. Congratulations Kellee! Pricing has been an issue at several Target stores, but I am glad it is working out in the customer's favor! Enjoy her! You referred to her as Trichelle, but she sounds like Chandra.

  2. Thanks for the information! I will begin searching for them this weekend. Target better not pull that crap again! Let's hope they learned their lesson.

  3. Muff, Vanessa - I hope Target doesn't try to jack up the price on these dolls, but we know what to do if they do. I just hope they show up locally soon. My Target seems to take forever to get SIS stock, Wal-Mart, too.

  4. Thanks, DBG! Great catch. I miss Trichelle! Nice to see Marisa, but whoa, Trichelle had the cool, curly hair.

    I like ToyCountry.com's prices ;-)

    1. You're welcome, D7ana. I miss Trichelle, too. It seems some of the girls (Chandra, Marissa, and Trichelle) are receiving a rotational appearance in the collections with Grace and Kara being the two mainstays. I wonder if an articulated Darren will ever return or if the girls have kicked him to the curb.

  5. If there are all this frisson around this girls in USA and
they are already rare and difficult to find...
I suppose we can not have hopes to see them in our stores in Brasil...
In the truth, we just had some chances with the first and rocawear lines...

    1. Maybe you guys will luck out and get some of the Baby Phat dolls, Jorge. You just never know with Mattel. Sometime I think they intentionally create the demand frenzy for their products by staggering the release of the dolls.

  6. Off topic question: does anyone know of a good doll repair shop in the Philadelphia area? I recently purchased a great Phillip Heath doll at a really great price. She was a steal because her arm is out of the socket. You can't tell with her clothing on, but I would still like to see her made whole. I am new to collecting and am still learning so much. I don't want to trust her to someone without a recommendation on the quality of that person's work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    1. Hi Saliyah,

The only doll establishment/person I know in the Philadelphia area is Barbara Whiteman, curator of the Philadelphia Doll Museum. She may know someone who can repair your doll for you. The address and phone number of the museum are:
      2253 N Broad St Philadelphia, PA 19132
      (215) 787-0220

In the past the museum has not been open every day, so do call before you make a trip there. I would add her email address, but I think calling would get a better response.

      Good luck!

      Which Heath doll is it?

  8. I just wanted to thank you. I saw your blog awhile back and was able to get my dolls from walmart I didnt even know about Marisa before this. I dont know why they stop making her. Tonight is was on Barbie Collector and saw the new SIS dolls they are so disappointing. There are so many different shades of women and they have narrowed them down to three of practically the same shade of women. They are supposed to be prom dolls but the have on way too much make up for a teenager and cheap looking dresses. I want to support the series but I just could not buy them. I got the black University dolls instead.

  9. Thank you for letting me know this post helped you. Regarding the Prom dolls, it was explained to me by Stephen Sumner, former Mattel designer who worked on the SIS line that: "The original 3 are always the SIS OPP dolls - the same way you only find OPP's of Barbie, Teresa and Nikki.

The SIS branded fashion lines have only had 4 characters (starting with Pastry in Spring 2011). Originally there were 5 dolls in the branded fashion collections -Darren was introduced in the Spring 2010 Rocawear line as the 5th teenaged character."

OPP stands for opening price point. Grace, Trichelle, and Kara are the original dolls used to introduce new lines. So as far as I know Marisa and Chandra have not been discontinued; they just are not included in every new line because they were not among the original dolls.

By the way, shopmattel.com is having a site wide 20% off sale. I am not sure if all Prom dolls are in stock but there may be something else that interests you or others.

Those in need of extra articulated bodies might be interested in the Fashionistas that were on sale for 8.99 the last time I was on the site. There might also be a free shipping code available.

    1. Correction: The 20% off is not a site wide sale at shopmattel.com. The Prom dolls are all sold out there. Select Fashionistas are 8.50 at shopmattel.com.
