To Buy or Not to Buy: That's Always a Good Question

Moxie Teenz "Red Carpet" Bijou with two different looks (thanks to the dress) -- Photo from Amazon.com
I saw this doll yesterday at Marshall's for $10.  There was only one lying flat on a bottom shelf in the toy department amongst a variety of other strewn about toys.  The doll's dark caramel legs caught my attention.  I noticed that this wave is no longer wigged. The hair is rooted instead.  The 2-different-looks dress has a ribbon under the skirt that, when buttoned to the corset, lifts the hemline.  Collectors define their attire as "red carpet," but an online merchant's description indicates they are dressed for the prom, which makes more sense.

After thoroughly examining Bijou and not really feeling the satiny pink dress or those oh-so-plastic ankle boots, I left the doll there.  For $10, I woke up thinking:  I could have used the body as a donor.  Now I am wondering if I should go back today and purchase.  One thing's for sure:  I definitely would not have paid retail.

Does anyone own this Bijou or any of the other Moxie Teenz from this wave?

  1. I don't have any MTs, but she's pretty. I would be on the fence, too, but that's a nice body.

  2. I don't have that one, I only have one MT which I used as a body for a spare Artsy head, but I would have been really tempted too. I've discovered that $10 is kind of my gotta-have-it price. I can resist buying anything more expensive, but finding something for $10 or under? I can't resist.

  3. I went to get Bijou, but she was gone! Oh well, it wasn't meant for me to have her.

Next time, I'll buy and ask questions later.

  5. I have the Melrose from this collection and got her from Ross for $9.99. If you have any Ross' in your area I'd check them out to see if they have her.

I don't have any Bijous and she's the only one I haven't collected from any line. I've seen your missed version at Toys R Us but it was $14.99.

My prom Melrose is still in her box so I can attest to quality or anything. Her dress is also a shiny mess and I really got her for rebodying.

    1. The next time I am in the area, I'll check Ross, Muff, but I'm not that hard pressed to get this Bijou. My "sucker for a bargain moment" is what caused my moments of regret for not purchasing initially.

The more I look at this Bijou, the more I dislike her hairline which accentuates the oval/flat appearance of her face. For a brief second, I thought she would display well with Bijou (wave 1) and Kenya-Get Christie Love who have now become BFFs, but I would have to redress the other Bijou anyway.

Plus Ross's toy section is about as unorganized and picked over in most cases as Marshall's, but Marshall's usually has better offerings. I don't particularly care to go on a treasure hunt in Ross's toy section when in most cases, I leave empty handed.

  6. I don't have this one, but I have the first wave Bijou and I really like her. I enjoy more than anything, being able to change wigs on her.

    1. I have that one, too, GG. Her wigs tend to slip off, so I don't change them much. I do enjoy her multiple points of articulation.

  7. I bought Leah from the Moxie Teenz second wave because I wanted her gold dress. She also had nice t-strap heels. I liked her reddish hair but I gave her body to a Liv Katie. If I found some of these Bijou dolls for $10 I would buy them and make some more WNBA stars out of big-headed Barbie clones but I don't like her dress well enough to buy her just for that even though the Moxie Teenz fashion packs were around $10 when they first came out.

  9. I have this version of Bijou. I looked through all of the ones on the shelf to find the best one. I ditched the dress & put her in some jeans, boots, & a t-shirt. You know QC can be off in any line.

For 1st wave B I find that if I use a headband or hat her wig stays better. I also find double-sided tape works too. I don't leave it on for over a week or 2. I did buy a few of the 1st version. I switched eyes and stole clothes and rebodied a doll or 2 :O)

  10. Hi Dollz4Moi,

I noticed some issues with the vinyl on my first Bijou, but this was not something that could be detected by examining in the store. It's an area underneath her clothing. I keep her skull cap on over her full-length wig which might be helping to keep it in place.

My first Bijou is redressed in a combination of dolls' clothing. I really disliked that lace blouse she wore originally. She continues to wear her white tank and "fur" vest. I guess I'll have to share a photo soon of how she is dressed now.

It sounds like you performed some majoring surgery on the 1st wave of dolls, but that's what we are supposed to do. If the manufacturer doesn't get it right, we certainly can.

    :-)
