Read Another Collector's Profile

1st Black Barbie (box year 1979, on market in 1980)

Whitney Wade shares her collector's profile with Sherry Howard of myauctionfinds.com, in "There's More to Barbie Than Just Great Looks."  I found this to be another enjoyable read in the series Sherry is writing on people who collect black dolls and wanted to share the link here.

  1. Thanks, for the link, DBG!

Nice to read that Ms. Howard also grew up watching the tv program, Julia. That was a rare program featuring an intelligent AND professionally employed Black widow and mother at that time. I greatly admired Diahann Carroll as Julia although I NEVER wanted to become a nurse. I had Julia paper dolls by Whitman and Mattel's Julia fashion doll although the latter did not look ANYTHING like the actress.

Again, thanks for sharing the link.

  2. Thanks for sharing the link to profiles of other collectors. I thoroughly enjoyed reading them. In fact, I spent a great deal of my evening reading the interviews. This was a great way to end my night as I prepare for work tomorrow. You are such a jewel for sharing. : ). Thanks!

  3. "I only have about 230 Barbies." That seems like a huge collection to me and she calls it modest. This reminds me of the doll interview Ms. Leo did awhile back and everyone was like, "oh, I have 200 to 300," and I was all, "WHAT?!" At that time I couldn't understand how someone could have so many. I totally get it now though as my own numbers climb into the ranks.

I enjoyed that interview very much and also the videos of the doll show. I was looking up doll shows near my area (or 3 hours away) and thinking about going to some. Those videos really make me want to go now.

    Thanks for sharing that!

  4. I am glad you ladies took the time to read Sherry Howard's interview of collector, Whitney Wade.

Muff, you mentioned viewing the video of last year's Detroit Doll Show where Ms. Wade was interviewed (the link is in the Sandra Epps' comment for those who missed it). Doesn't it get you all excited to see people and dolls gathered together in one place, even if only in video form? I would love for there to be more doll shows here with dolls that "I" like. Unfortunately, this place is doll-show destitute so I don't bother to go to any and traveling out of state to them is not something I choose to do anymore.
