Photos From 01/07/2015 - Dolls Beside Me

The big picture of mostly playscale dolls displayed to the left of my work-at-home desk.

On January 7, 2015, I took several photos of the (mostly) playscale dolls that surround me as I work.  The dolls are positioned on the corner of my childhood desk, atop two rolling file cabinets, and on built-in shelves (courtesy of my husband, who actually built my doll room).  Not shown are dolls that are on my work desk.  In essence, I am surrounded by dolls while I work and I cannot think of a better work environment.  See additional photos taken at different angles below.

Someone saw a glimpse of the dolls displayed on my work desk (not shown in any of these photos) and commented:  "I don't see how you get anything done."  Well, I am very productive.

As a doll lover, could you work in a doll-filled environment or would it be too distracting?

    1. It's either work or play, nothing in between or I'll not accomplish my daily goals, Erin. When I remain focused on meeting or exceeding my goals, I can enjoy the dolls fully on my own time.

  2. You have some really great dolls there helping you get your work done! Could I work in a doll filled environment? It might be distracting to have so many dolls around me, but I definitely think I could work with a small amount of dolls around me. Kind of like having pictures of your kids on your desk.

    1. That's a good way of viewing it, Phyllis -- like having pictures of your kids on your desk. I have those too -- but they are on my personal desk which is positioned alongside my work desk.

  3. Beautiful dolls! Just gorgeous.

I do most of my computer work on a comfy couch, and for the past few months I've had some of my dolls, as well as my flock of stuffed flamingos, on a neighboring couch. I like it because I always have friendly, mostly well-behaved company. As a bonus, my sewing station is on the other side of the doll couch, so I have plenty of models for my attempts at sewing doll clothes. ;)

    1. Your atmosphere sounds delightful, Saturday Sequins. I think when we surround ourselves with the things we love, most of us can be more productive. I play music while I work as well (smooth jazz, usually, sometimes classical).

  5. These dolls look great. They're all dressed so well! In answer to your question, for me it depends on how many dolls I've got near me. In college I kept about a dozen on my desk while I worked, and believe it or not it improved my production! I kept them there as an audience if I needed to practice a speech or read something aloud (my roommate had moved out). That's my limit, though.

    1. Thanks, RagingMoon. I love a well dressed doll!

Your doll audience of a dozen or so seemed to have worked well for you while in college. I never thought about using my dolls as an audience when practicing speeches. I usually look in the mirror while practicing but the pre-speech nervousness is always there. I think that's natural for most people, but I have never gotten used to the balled-up nerves and sweaty palms that occur beforehand.

  7. I don't keep so many dolls out and around me where I'm working but sometimes one or two will migrate into my office space. Their presence is very comforting. I enjoyed seeing all your friends!

  9. Wow, this is a beautiful collection of dolls!! My office space is shared with my 16 inch and up dolls and I love it! It is nice to look to either side of my desk and see cute little pretty faces. So no, the dolls are not a distraction for me, they often bring a smile to my face.

  10. While I would love to be closeted in that room so I could play with your dolls, I could not have that many dolls surrounding me while I work. I am very easily distracted, and I mean VERY! I would be picking up that, adjusting this and then I would start spinning stories in my head about the doll's lives... so no. No way I could get a single thing accomplished surround by dolls.

    1. Since they are so close to my chair, I mean fractions of an inch close, I often bump those that stand on the edge of my childhood desk and on the first rolling file cabinet when I swivel my chair to get up from my work desk, so I might have to stop and reposition a doll or two, but that is the extent of my distraction.

It's easy for me to stay focused on what I know I must do so I can do what I "want" to do after the must-do is completed.
