Fishtail, Sparkle Girlz Model, Thrift Store Finds

Blythe's faux fishtail
Until a permanent texturizing hairstyle is created for her, my brunette Blythe with bone straight hair was given a faux fishtail, similar to the technique shown here. (It appears that I was able to conceal the rubber bands better.)

This one-piece dress has a purple bodice with hot-pink spaghetti straps at shoulders and crisscross layered animal-print skirt; the turquoise vest is removable.  A lavender shoulder bag is included.

I picked up this Sparkle Girlz fashion at Wal-Mart (above) and tried it on Blythe for size (below).

Blythe wears the fashion with ankle boots from a Barbie Basics shoe pack.
Thrift Store Finds

Five packages of dolls in groups and singles @$1.99 per package were found recently at a local thrift store.

While thrift store shopping, I found five packages of dolls for $1.99 each.  The dolls are in near pristine condition and were possibly donated by the same source.   The fashions and shoes are what interested me, especially those on the Kelly-size dolls.  With the exception of the fashion worn by Tamika, my initial plan is to remove the clothing and shoes to use on other dolls.  See the individual photos below:

I have no idea who this particular Barbie is, but her pink ankle strap shoes that snap closed in back are what captured my attention.  The front of the ankle strap has a faux tassel.
These two were packaged separately.  This somewhat out-of-focus picture can still illustrate how cute their fashions and shoes are.  The one on the right is Amusement Park Stacie.  Who is the other one?
These three Kelly-size girls were packaged together.  I think the one in the Christmas dress is probably missing something she formerly held.  Who are they; does anyone know?

These dark-haired girls are my favorites.  I already have Tamika, the one in the middle.  I love the outfits of the other two.  Mattel was too frugal to give the one with bunny ears real tights or leggings.  Instead, they opted to paint her legs yellow.  All shoes are removable.
Cost for all, including the Sparkle Girlz fashion and tax, was about $13.

  1. Is the Kelly friend holding the rabbit Marissa?

    1. The one holding the bunny could be Marissa, but I am not sure Skippercollector. I cannot find my boxed Tamika to see if other dolls released at that time are on the back of her box. (I think I might have given Tamika away, thinking I could always pick up another and that never happened, at least not a boxed one. So it's a good thing I found this Tamika with the others.)

  2. Love that hair! I just bought some tiny rubber bands and I'll give this a try instead of my usual fish tail that only really looks good on ladies with super long hair.

    1. Hey Muff - I just viewed the original faux fishtail video that creates a better fishtail than the video shared in this blog post. The original one conceals the rubber bands completely. Here's the link.

I skipped the tucking over part.

    2. I just tried the tucking method and it was a failure for me too. I'm going to stick to the visible band version. It's cute and I have plenty of bands.

    3. Yeah, that tuck and pull-through method is a lot easier viewed than done.

BTW, I almost rebodied Blythe yesterday, but discovered in addition to the three screws that hold the front and back of her head in place, there is a spring connected to the back of her head that also needs to be removed and properly placed back into position in order for the eyes to work properly. < sigh >

  3. It is rare to find dolls with complete outfits and shoes. That is especially true of the smaller dolls. You lucked up! Also, I will come over so you can fishtail my hair. LOL!

    1. That is too funny Miss Leo. I think my daughter will be able to create a real fishtail for you, but I will be more than happy to give you a faux one.

      :-)

    2. I almost thought these might have been donated by a store because the Barbie still had the manufacturer's clear rubber bands wrapped around her feet. Either a store donated or some little girl never played with any of these.

  4. The fishtail hairstyle is too cute! I have always wanted to know how to do that style of braiding. Thanks for the link. Very nice haul!!

    1. I have always wanted to know how to fishtail braid, too. Be sure to check out the link I shared in my comment to Muff. Yesterday I re-did Blythe's fishtail using that technique. Unfortunately it was a failure in my opinion. I think my tucks and pull throughs were not as precise as needed. I plan to take it down and do it over using the first method.

  7. Wow, I guess someone just isn't into the little dolls. Surprised there were so many there. It's always great to get new clothes for the little ones. I actually like the idea of the painted on tights, I just don't like the limited mobility the painted legs have. They are way too stiff.

    1. I was surprised to find so many there too. They had probably just put them out. This particular store seems to have lowered the prices of playscale dolls. Where they used to be $2.99 to $3.99 per package, most packages are priced $1.99 and often (as in the case of the little ones) there are several in a package, which works for me.
