Toddler-size yellow and peach socks and gray adult-size sock are combined with decorative stretch headbands and ponytail holders to create three dresses for Dena that can be worn several different ways. |
Beginning with the gray sock, about an inch below the ribbed ankle portion of the sock is cut off to form the dress.
|
Gray sock with ribbed ankle area plus an inch below forms Dena's gray dress. |
|
The 1-inch area of the gray sock below the ribbed area is turned under and glued in place with no-sew fabric glue. (This was done after Dena posed for the following photos. In the next photos, the hem has been tucked under but not glued in place.) |
|
Dena uses a pink ponytail holder with floral-shaped accent as a belt. |
|
A pink headband is wrapped around Dena's waist from front to back, crisscrossed in back, with the remaining portion brought forward and over her head, finally looping it underneath the floral design at the waist. The next image shows the view from the back. |
|
Same look as above from the back |
|
The yellow and peach socks are cut. With these I also left a bit of material below the ribbed area to add length as well as a hem to the dresses. The remaining sock becomes a shrug after the toe area is cut off. Again, headbands and ponytail holders are used for belts with mixing and matching as shown and described below. |

Yellow ponytail holder serves as belt and hemline is tucked under. |
|
Yellow shrug is added. |
|
For a touch of color, an orange and peach ponytail holder is added to belt the waistline. |

Those who know me or have read enough of this blog to know my favorite color, you know which of these I like best. Which one is your favorite?
Now all Dena needs is
these shoes in gold and silver (size 7).

Dena looks dashing in her dresses.
ReplyDeleteThanks Thammie! This was a quick and easy doll project.

You gave her quite a few looks with those socks! I have a couple of sock dresses with shrugs for my Dasia, but I didn't thing about adding the ponytail holder and headbands as belts and straps. What a great idea! So, did you order the shoes?
ReplyDeleteHi Phyllis,
DeleteThose headbands and ponytail holders were on the same aisle as the pink and peach socks found at a local $ store. They match the socks perfectly. The gray socks are diabetic socks from Walgreens.
I have not ordered the shoes Vanessa suggested, if those are the ones you are referring to. I did order another pair of the white shoes, like Dena is wearing, just to have an extra pair since her feet are so hard to fit. I do plan to order the silver and gold pair, eventually. Other than the shoes for Dena, I have not purchased anything doll related that was manufactured. These socks don't count. :-) Actually, in my mind, the shoes do not count since they are "for" dolls and "not dolls." Can't we do some serious justifying? But seriously, I don't even have an urge to buy a doll. I have wants, but the urges and impulses are all but gone.

Great job Debbie!!! She looks great! I love them all, but if I HAD to pick one....I think I would pick the yellow one. Okay, so now I have no excuse for not making Dasia any clothes. Thanks for the tutorial!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome, GG. You're right, you have no excuse for not making clothes for Dasia.
ReplyDeleteSince this post published, I took additional photos of Dena "putting on" one of the shrugs. I will add those photos to the post soon.

Very nice and figure hugging! I like the grey the best. Yellow used to be my favorite color when I was a young'un, but now that I'm all old crotchety, I prefer greys and blacks.
ReplyDeleteDena does look good in her form-fitting dresses. I admire her confidence in flaunting her curves and doing so with a splash of color!

I have several pairs of socks that I found at the Thrift store...now that I know there is No Sew Fabric glue I canmake the outfits :-) Using headbands and pony tail holders is a great idea. Now I need a Dena Doll.
DeleteOh yes, there is no-sew glue and there is also Stitch Witchery, which is an iron-on seam binding. The no-sew glue will work better for knit material, however.
