Once doll buying resumes, whenever that occurs, I have added several dolls to my wish list. Some were already on my mental wish list before my self-imposed doll-buying hiatus commenced. I am writing them all into existence now.
I am always, always on the lookout for any vintage black Barbie clone similar to the ones shared with me recently by Facebook friend Escobar Artforall and Emmanuel Perez. Emmanuel is very knowledgeable on the subject of Ken, Barbie, Tammy, and other clones and competitors from the 1960s - 1990s and has a
website to prove it.
The first groups of dolls was shared by Escobar Artforall:

The above two groups of photos are of a mohair clone that has been restyled. |

The next doll, shared by Emmanuel Perez, is a 1960s ponytail African American Polly by Valentine.
I would welcome into my collection with open arms any of the dolls Escobar Artforall and Manny shared with me.

Also on my wish list, even though they lack articulation, are the following two Barbie Fashionistas. They quite possibly will be the first two dolls I purchase after doll buying resumes.

Vanessa recently shared a new guy she purchased that interests me. See him
here. He, as well as a new set of ungloved hands, is on my wish list.

Life-size all-leather one-of-a-kind baby dressed in leather, by Lorna Paris |
A molded-face all-leather doll by Lorna Paris (not necessarily a life-size baby like the one shown above, but I'd be okay with a baby by Lorna) would be wonderful to own. Also on my wish list from Lorna is one of her Crown Head necklaces.
|
Crown Heads by Lorna Paris |
The heads of the Crown Head necklaces are sculpted in polymer clay and are strung on leather cords or silver or goldtone chains. I want one with open eyes, similar to the one shown below, and have already voiced this desire to Lorna.
I already own a Rock Head pin (brooch) by Lorna, but aren't these following ones lovely?
|
Rock Head pins/brooches by Lorna Paris are all one-of-a-kind with hand painted faces (on rocks/stones); each wears jewelry hand made by Lorna; some with headpieces made from shells. Just lovely! lornaparis916@gmail.com. |
I haven't seen very much else in the way of dolls that strikes my fancy so I think I will be pretty safe as I ride this thing out and regain and maintain focus in other areas of my life. Additionally, I have several doll projects that need to be completed. Here's hoping I find the motivation to see them through to completion.

Hi Debbie, I enjoyed seeing Lorna Paris' work. In my experience when you make a wish list with pictures, your dreams come true much faster than you might have hoped. May all your projects and visions prosper!
ReplyDeleteI have often written things into existence without the use of pictures. So I know it does help to write down wants. Adding pictures no doubt will help.
DeleteThank you for the well wishes regarding my projects.

Great wish list. Hopefully you get the ones that you want. I love Lorna Paris work and her brooches are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThank you MDW for the well wishes. Just one Bild Lilli type will do.
DeleteI love both the artist and her work. Lorna Paris has as much inner beauty as outer. I believe the inner beauty is more important.

I have only seen these dolls on the web. It would be great to see them in person. Great post. Thanks for sharing. I hope you get them.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ms. Leo. "Escobar Atforall" shared more photos that I did not add to this post. She has a wonderful collection. One of the dolls was a strikingly beautiful Asian. Since this post focused on the types of dolls I want I did not include the others. Perhaps I will do a followup post about the others.

The Bild Lili clones are amazing. I love that they have different skin tones especially considering when they would have been manufactured. I like the Wishlist idea too. :)
ReplyDeleteI think some (if not all) the dark skinned Bild Lilli's are customs. I believe the one with the Bild Lilli base is a custom. I know of (but not the name of) one person who customizes these dolls and I believe this particular one was done by that person. I haven't taken the time to investigate the possibilities of owning a custom dark skinned Bild Lilli since the word "custom" usually equals more money than I am willing to spend. But a girl can wish. :-)

I did wonder, however they are very chic. Very like high fashion models Helen Williams or Donyale Luna in the 50s & 60s!
DeleteWow, those brooches are quite stellar.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Muff. Someone mentioned that one of the brooches looks like North West.

Those clones are wonderful! The clone faces are just very appealing and edgy.
ReplyDeleteI see self-confidence and wisdom when I view these particular clones, but I can see edgy, too.

Nice post! The broaches are all adorable!! I love them all!
ReplyDeleteI think they definitely make a fashion statement, GG (the brooches). I've had people stare and comment when I've worn mine.

Greetings,
ReplyDeleteThank you for enjoying my collection. I am Escobar. I am new to collecting ethnic dolls. This site is an invaluable resource. I find it so difficult finding Ethnic dolls as I have started collecting dolls. It is nice seeing representations of beauty which are not common.
Some photos are by me and the original owners. I always do a comparison after I restyle the doll. Muriel took a picture of her lalka doll with the white scarf and parted with this lovely chocolate colored doll. I restyled her in yellow. The mohair doll in the bathing suit was by the previous owner and the pokadot dress was me. Amazing hobby. I have learned so much. Thank you once again.
Thank you again Zoey X for allowing me to share your lovely dolls.

Build the list they shall come. Nothing like being prepared for that moment when you can start buying again. Some of those Rock Head dolls had me gasping in adoration. So cute!
