Good Morning Texas @ The Perot's Eye of the Collector Exhibition

Take a video look into the Eye of the Collector Exhibition at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science as seen through the eyes of a Good Morning Texas reporter and described by Colleen Walker, the Eugene McDermott Chief Executive Officer at the Perot.  This segment of GMT aired the morning of April 18, 2016. My doll exhibit is featured in the video beginning at 2:38.

In the event the video does not play on your device, here is the direct link.

    1. Hi Roxanne,

I have received calls, but only from family. Other than posting info about it here on the Internet, I haven't told anyone else about the GMT airing.

  2. As someone who collects almost to the point of hoarding, how wonderful it is to see people's collections being celebrated this way. So often you hear from people, "What do you do with all this stuff?!" They don't appreciate or understand a mind that sees value in collecting.

    1. People who do not share our passion often view us as different because of our appreciation for and desire to collect specific things. Their views about us would change if they developed their own passion and allowed their inner child/spirit to live.

  5. Amazing to see your a little part of your collection in "real time". I love that you also loaned your original Barbie's to give the rest of your dolls a context. I LOVE the larger girl dolls to the right they're lovely (sought of the Patty Playpal style) who are they? So good to see & read the recognition your collection is getting recently Debbie! :D

    1. Thank you, Julius! It is always a pleasure to receive comments from you.

My collector's story would be incomplete without the presence of my white inanimate childhood friends. I had to include the Barbie, friends, and family along with one of my first dolls, a white squeeze-toy doll from 1958 to complete the story.

The two 36-inch dolls are, in fact, Patti Playpal, Ideal's first black version from 1981 and Ashton Drake/Collectibles Today's 2006 reproduction (red dress) which uses the original 1960s Patti Playpal sculpt.
