Petition Mattel for a Limited Edition Gabby Douglas Barbie

One-of-a-kind Gabby Douglas Barbie, part of the the Sheroes Campaign

The above and following images, quoted text, and videos are from a Barbie Facebook page status update posted on July 11, 2016, at 9:30 a.m.

We're excited to honor US Olympic Gold Medalist Gabrielle Douglas with a one-of-a-kind ‪#‎Barbie‬ doll made in her likeness! Watch as Gabby talks about inspiring girls to be true to yourself and dream big.‪#‎YouCanBeAnything‬ ‪#‎Shero‬

The Gabby Douglas Barbie is a one-of-a-kind.  Perhaps if Mattel is flooded with requests and/or petitions for this doll, they will follow through and produce a limited edition.  Pleas, petitions, and requests worked to make the Ava DuVernay Barbie a reality, so let's do it again!

  1. Gabby Douglas is just too cute. I'd love to see a limited-edition doll done in her likeness!

    1. She really is a cutie with a huge personality. A doll, mass produced, in her likeness will be great for so many reasons but the main one is to inspire girls to follow their dreams, too.

  2. I think Mattel is definitely testing the waters by making this OOAK doll and showing her to us.
That doll is a good likeness of Gabby Douglas, too.

    1. You're probably right Maricha. Right now I am being teased with the OOAK.

    2. I forgot to add that with the Made-to-Move body already being manufactured (and being perfect for this), getting this doll into production would be much easier than it was for most other celebrity likenesses.

    3. Good point, Maricha! They might already be using components of the MTM Barbie body with the OOAK Gabby Douglas Barbie.

  3. The doll has got Gabby facial features almost to the point (or is it to the tip?). I love that. Hope the petition will work.

    1. Mattel is usually great at creating portrait dolls. They have some of the best sculptors. They did not disappoint with the OOAK Gabby Douglas Barbie.

  4. Wow, the doll is really cute. It looks just like her. I hope the petition goes through and that the actual doll looks as nice as this prototype.

    1. I hope so, too (the petition goes through), JMD. I really like this doll.

  5. My daughter loves Gabby and hopes to follow in her foot steps one day. She did a Black History month project on her and presented it to her class while dressed in a leotard. I would love to buy this doll for her 9th birthday on July 17. She is an excellent role model & I hope this doll becomes available soon.

    1. Your daughter's Black History project on Gabby Douglas sounds wonderful. She must really be inspired by her. I hope the doll is massed produced so girls, like you daughter, can own one.

    1. If produced, it would be great as a first doll in a long time for you or for one of your granddaughters, Lee.

  7. I love seeing these kinds of projects from Mattel - and as people have said, with enough buzz maybe this one will end up on the shelves at some point too!

  8. I would definitely sign that petition! There are other OOAK dolls I would like to see limited edition productions done too, like Zendaya, for example.

    1. I always hoped they would create additional Janet Jackson dolls like the OOAK of her several years ago that was auctioned for a charity, but I am sure there are licensing issues and other legalities involved in creating or preventing the creation of dolls for profit.

    2. I just saw Carlyle Nuera's instagram and he posted ". . . if there's enough public demand, she might be mass produced!" Here is the link to his post: https://www.instagram.com/p/BHvXdLNDKgm/?taken-by=carlylenuera

So, if you know how to get a petition started --

    3. Oh great, Phyllis. Thank you for sharing this. Someone was gathering reasons the doll should be produced, but as far as I know she has not completed the petition. I will pass this information on to her and share the link to the petition if she completes it. Thanks again!

  11. I love her! I wish they would mass produce her so I could get one for me and each of my grandgirls. I never was able to get a Ava DuVernay Barbie! :-(

    1. I'm sorry you missed out on the Ava DuVernay Barbie. I'm sure your granddaughters would love owning a Gabby Douglas Barbie.

  12. Gabby has grown up to be so elegant! I would love to have this Barbie doll! Just in the tracksuit alone!! Awesome! They really should produce these as an official series the response and sell through for Misty Copeland & Ava DuVernay shows that there is a market for dolls that represent heroes of every culture. (I also love that they gave Gabby a Made to Move body!). :)

    1. You are absolutely right, Julius. Mattel should produce a series of their OOAK sheroes. If I create the petition (if one has not already been created by the time I can breathe enough to sit down to research this and/or compose one), I will point this out to them. It's not like the dolls won't sell.

  13. Very nice! Are you aware of an active petition we could sign? I would love to have this doll. I imagine they probably wouldn't offer the bar and mat as shown because it's huge. If the doll becomes available, I will have to make her one of those bars.

    1. I haven't had the time to check to find out if there is a petition but I don't think there is. If Mattel produces the doll, including the bar and mat would be ideal.

If I find a petition (or create one) I'll share the link.

    1. Yes it would be awesome if Mattel would do the right thing and produce at least a limited edition of the Gabby Douglas Barbie. Little and big girls would be thrilled.
