Barbara Whiteman is the founder and curator of the Philadelphia Doll Museum which is located at 2253 N. Broad Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The museum was founded in 1988. Annually each Memorial Day weekend Ms. Whiteman hosted the Philadelphia Black Doll Show and Sale. The final show was held in 2012.

Good morning! I've been trying to get in contact with the museum. I am a Collections Manager for New Mexico Historic Sites and have come across a doll that is a mystery to us and am looking for all the info I can get. I saw this museum listed and when I called the number I got a message saying it was out of service. Do you know of another number or email that can be used to contact someone?

DeleteI either want to sell my complete collection of black dolls and memorabilia or donate it all to the museum. I am 82 not in good health and my children dont want the dolls etc. I dont wa,t them to go in the trash. Eex: I have a signed M.C Hammmer in original box.
DeleteIf there are museums in your area, contact the museums to see if there is any interest in your dolls. Is M. C. Hammer the only Black/African American doll that you own?

Good morning: In 1987 Wilberforce University sponsored the ''Holiday Festival of Dolls''. I took my mother where she and I met Ms. Whiteman and had a very informative and enjoyable talk. The topic of collecting came up and Ms.Whiteman indicated the Black lady in New York who had what was agreed to at that time the largest collection and if memory serves me correctly Ms. Whiteman had the second largest while my mothers collection was the third largest. A few years later my mother one of ghe dolls that she made to Ms. Whiteman's museum along with donations to the museum in Wilberforce,one in Detriot and Cleveland. I have one here also. This doll is called a ''Golly Wog'' I do want to visit your museum soon. Dave

Is the museum still open ? I certainly hope so . Can somebody please give their new phone number as I can't find one or any information as to whether or not they are open ... you can even please call me at 267-971-9961 ... or text me

If the museum reopen in the future. Is it possible to volunteer. I have visited on several occasions in the pass and would like fir this wonderful resource to our culture to continue and be shared with the next generation.
DeleteI do not think there are plans to reopen the Philadelphia Doll Museum. If volunteering would be a possibility if it does reopen, I would not know.
