A Collector's Review of Barbie Best Fashion Friend Nikki

Best Fashion Friend Nikki poses with a My Size Barbie for size comparison.

As a followup to yesterday's post, fellow doll enthusiast, Onlyalisa, was able to locate Barbie Best Fashion Friend Nikki at Toys R Us (TRU) in her area.  She shared the TRU item number from her receipt:  886144610318, an assessment and additional photos, which follow:

She's made from the same materials as the larger [My Size Barbie] doll, except her arms are a little more bendable*.  Her hair is the same texture and thickness as the "My Size," very shiny.  Swivel head, her knees have no articulation.  Other than that she is not much different from the smaller Fashionista dolls. The only thing I don't like:  her shoes are molded, but with paint & add-ons it'll be fine.  I really like a lot.  See photos:

I too would prefer removable shoes and less dramatic eyelashes, but as Onlyalisa added:

I have to keep reminding myself "playline dolls" are made for kids "great eyelashes/articulation/nice shoes" are terrific when you get it.

I agree!  I have to remember this myself when I see a playline doll of interest that lacks certain preferable attributes.  I often forget about the target market being children, instead "wanting what I want in all dolls I see."

Regarding the molded-on shoes, Onlyalisa has already figured out a remedy for this!

Larger shoes/boots can be placed over Nikki's molded-on shoes.

Onlyalisa plans to buy a jazzier shoe for her doll to replace the American Girl-size doll boot that Nikki tried on for size and/or enhance the AG-size boot.  Whatever she does, I know it will be a nice improvement.

Thanks again, Onlyalisa, for the review, photos, and for allowing me to share here!  Have fun with her!

After undressing her doll, Onlyalisa discovered that Nikki has clickable arms at the elbows that can be bent or straightened!  She said, "Like Barbie legs with the clicks, three clicks, they're bent!  Nice surprise!"

So Nikki does have articulation.  Cool!

  1. Hi Debbie, I like this doll. The clicking arms are a great plus. It's true, as collectors we are focused on different things than the children who these toys are intended for :-D. I think these dolls will be popular with children & collectors! Thanks for sharing the review.
