Kamala Harris in Vinyl and her VP-elect soon-to-be VP status!

Kamala Harris Action Figure by FCTRY

I ordered the Kamala Harris action figure by FCTRY on November 7th, the day after she became Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris! History is in the making and I had to have a VP-elect Kamala Harris representation in my collection.

Standing only 6 inches tall, the figure has painted facial features, a smiling mouth with painted teeth area, dark brown molded hair with highlights. 

The molded-on clothes, shoes, and jewelry are a black shell top, gray suit skirt, gold lapel pin, two-strand pearl necklace, black low-heeled pumps. 

The articulation is at the upper arms and elbows.

Commentary: I participated in an American Minority Studies discussion about Kamala Harris making history as the first African American-Asian woman to be Vice-President-elect of the U.S. We were asked to discuss the importance of having the first African American woman to hold the second-highest position in the White House and what this means for Black women and American society in general.) I wrote the following:

Nancy Pelosi, our current United States Speaker of the House, “served as the first highest-ranking female politician in that role since 2019 and previously from 2007 to 2011… she is the only woman in U.S. history to serve as Speaker and, until the election of Kamala Harris as Vice President, was the highest-ranking female elected official in United States history. Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris has further shattered the glass ceiling that first prevented women from running for any political office to now holding the next-to-the-highest ranking position in the history of the U.S. government. This is a huge accomplishment for all women not only because Vice-President-elect Harris is a woman but because she is a woman of African American and South Asian American descent.

What this means for Black women is that the power of the ballot is real in a democratic society free of voter fraud. It means their votes matter and they showed up and showed out at the polls in the midst of a pandemic to exercise their voting power. It also means that there are fewer limits on political positions that Black women can aspire to hold.

For American society, in general, former Senator Kamala Harris’s rise to the rank of Vice-President-elect is proof that gender role restrictions are deterrents to growth and leadership possibilities and that gender should never interfere with a person’s political or nonpolitical aspirations. The possibilities are now limitless for additional women to pursue major political roles.

Vice-President-elect (soon-to-be Vice President) Harris will also become an inspiration for girls of all ethnicities. She is proof that they too can aspire to hold the next-to-highest-ranking position in U.S. government and better than that, they can aspire to become the President of the United States.
