Recent Barbie Purchases

I've made a few Barbie purchases and a Barbie-family purchase in the past few months. I received a couple as gifts. This post features these purchases and gifts.

Spring Petals Barbie, 1996

Spring Petals Barbie arrived never removed from the box.

Spring Petals Barbie is my first Avon-exclusive Barbie. Can you believe that? Well, she is. With a box date of 1996, Spring Petals Barbie is the second in that series. The doll was a gift this past February from Fran S. in appreciation for an exclusive doll presentation. Thank you, again, Fran.

Spring Petals Barbie wears a pink gingham and floral-print dress, pink gingham headband, painted-on white panties, and holds a fabric floral bouquet.

This lovely doll uses the 1980s-1990s Christie head sculpt.

Jackson and Jayla

Jackson and Jayla are in a playset from the Barbie It Takes Two series.

These 10-inch fraternal twins have beautiful deep brown complexions, brown eyes, molded hair (Jackson), and a rooted twisted ponytail (Jayla).

Dressed in a red and black shirt, denim pants, and white sneakers (Jackson) and a multicolored striped T-shirt, denim skirt, and white high-top sneakers (Jayla), accessories include three puppies, a soccer ball, a pet carrier, a leash, a dog bowl, a snow cone, a brush, a water bottle, a puppy bed, and a fake bag of dog food.

This doll was purchased to use in a special project, which will be shared after completion.

Barbie Fashionista 185

Barbie Fashionista 185

The natural-textured hair pulled up in an Afro puff and the freckles were two of the reasons I purchased Fashionista 185. The coral headband is flexible plastic.

This out-of-the-box photo illustrates the hideous pointed-toe half-boots that are made of flimsy plastic.

The white plastic boots are better illustrated in this photo.

To make the boots a bit more appealing, I snipped off the pointed toes.

Barbie Fashionista 185 is seen in a full-length photo after the boot modification.

Barbie You Can Be Anything Photographer

Aside from the pink lip color, I like Barbie You Can Be Anything Photographer. It was the curly hair as illustrated in the online photos of the prototype that influenced the purchase. In real life, the doll's hair texture differs.

This doll uses the petite Barbie body.

The photographer wears a heart-print pink dress that has a white collar with flat T-strap shoes. Accessories are a camera and a puppy.

Preloved Beach Barbie

Beach Barbie from 2018 arrived in preloved condition along with another doll that was donated to the museum. (The other doll will be installed in the museum; this doll will not.)

I wet and restyled Beach Barbie's hair and removed a silver mark from the forehead. She has been redressed as shown next.

Beach Barbie wears a Sparkle Girlz fashion with Barbie sandals.

Barbie Fashionista 186

Barbie Fashionista 186; it was the burgundy hair that influenced this purchase.

Out of the plastic zippered package, Fashionista 186 shows off her curves and her love-themed dress.

She has a pretty face and the teeth area is nicely done. However, the unattractive method Mattel used to paint or decal and seal this doll's eyes and cheek color makes the colors appear smeared. The same technique was used for the BMR1959 Barbie seen here. I wish they would not do this or give a better way of detecting they've done it in online pictures because I order most of my dolls online and don't realize the smeared effect until after the doll arrives.

These are all the Barbie and Barbie-family-related dolls that have arrived to date that have not been discussed. Other than the proposed Tina Turner Barbie, official photos of which have not been disclosed, I have no other Barbie purchases planned.
