Twinkies' Final Return

Twinkie dolls returned safely from The Strong National Museum of Play on 01/31/2024.

My 1968 Twinkie dolls by Effanbee that were loaned to the New-York Historical Society in August 2023 were included in the The Black Dolls Exhibition (collection of Debra Neff) at The Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York. The dolls were returned on January 31, 2024.

Twinkie Dolls were on display at the Black Dolls Exhibition at The Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, NY. from September 23, 2023, through January 7, 2024

The registrar of exhibitions at the New-York Historical Society, Dottie Teraberry, shared the above photo after the dolls were installed at The Strong. According to Ms. Teraberry, "The dolls formed a critical part of the 'Racial Pride and Racial Prejudice' section of the exhibition in which we discussed the role that the 'Doll Test' played in the landmark Supreme Court case, Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka."

When the exhibition traveled from the N-Y Historical Society to The Strong National Museum of Play, Ms. Teraberry was responsible for arranging the second time my dolls were loaned. She was also responsible for the seamless pick-up and return.

The AnR Transport handlers who returned the dolls were quite professional yet congenial. One of the guys was intrigued by my rose quartz crystal pendant necklace. They both wondered (after I explained that rose quartz is supposed to promote a sense of calm) if it works. "It's all in the mind," was my answer (but I usually never take it off) and have matching earrings, which I was wearing that day.

The Unboxed Dolls

The Strong National Museum of Play was the last leg of the Black Dolls Exhibition. These two, having traveled back and forth to New York twice, are home for good.
