  1. Thanks for sharing, that was funny. Smart kid, the dolls were tempting though.

    1. The dolls are nice, but if I were in her shoes (and not a doll collector), I would have exited left as well.

  2. Thanks for sharing Debbie, it was funny.
Except from the two spooky girls, it kind of reminded me of your doll collection: various size and style of collector and fashion dolls.

    1. This was actually a nice collection. I wish my dolls were as nicely spaced apart as those. Only a doll lover would take your comment as a compliment, and I do. Thanks!

    2. My comment was supposed to be a compliment right from the beginning. I am sorry if it was wrongly phrased.
I am glad that you are a doll collector and took it as a compliment

    3. Oh, I took your comment as a compliment initially. My reply wasn't very clear and it actually didn't make much sense. So ignore me and please accept my "thank you" again!

  3. I saw this commercial a couple of times. Any time there is spooky music and dolls, I get a little creeped out. I don't want to be walking through my basement one day and hear that music through my head. It would ruin my doll play for sure. This one reminded me of that recent movie where the nanny was hired to look after a boy doll that came alive and started doing bad things.

    1. Hi Vanessa,

My Aaron is one of three dolls that I keep in the den. The other two are small, Daddy's Long Legs dolls, an older couple sitting on a park bench. Aaron, by Philip Health is life size, 39 inches I believe. He has his own chair. Recently my daughter visited with a friend, who I had not met before and who had obviously not been here before. Her friend was spooked out by Aaron because of the movie you mentioned. They described it as a boy that came to life. I told my daughter I wanted to see it, but she didn't think that was a good idea because she knows I don't like scary movies. I guess if I did watch them, the dolls and any creepy sound might creep me out too.

    2. Don't do it. Just go look at the movie trailer. I think that would be enough for you to see what we were talking about.

    3. I won't watch. I'm not even curious enough to want to watch the trailer. I'm good not knowing more than I already do. :-)

    4. My mum is the same. Often she will ask if she should watch something and we'll say no, she's very good at knowing what to miss. I think it comes with experience...I have definitely taken a leaf out of her book!

    5. She's a very wise woman, your mum. Mine is definitely the same way. She will say, "I don't need that in my spirit."

  4. I had to remove Louise, a large stuffed-body-composition-head-and-limbs doll which my husband helped me restore, from my guest room because a visitor was "afraid" of spending the night with her. Poor Louise, who is just happy to have a new lease on life after languishing in a barn where rats and mice had their wicked way with her.

    1. Oh my... I'm glad you rescued Louise, Gini! I still don't understand why innocent dolls creep people out. But I suppose that's because I'm a doll lover and anything you love will never be creepy.

  5. That was cute! I don't think it would creep me out though. I would be so caught up in the collections to even pay attention to the twins.

    1. I would have admired the dolls and the era they represent, too, but I would have never taken my eyes off those twins at any point in time. "Girls, please stay in front of me while I look at your lovely collection and for my sake, could you please, turn off that music?"

  6. This commercial cracks me up every time it comes on, but I don't think the dolls make it creepy. I think those two girls asking her to stay longer are creepy.

I used to have a lot of toddler sized dolls sitting around on furniture. It creeped everyone out, but I didn't care. I always said (and still say for the ones I have now) that since I take good care of the dolls, I'll be just fine. :-)

    1. I laugh each time I view the video. I have never seen the commercial aired on TV, but that's probably because I don't watch much TV.

I don't blame you, Jaye. I wouldn't care if others found my dolls creepy either.

    1. I think that's what would have happened, Ladonna. From the looks of the collection, she would have been their first black doll.

  8. I have seen this commercial as well. It is funny, but does seem a little creepy. There are some people who have made comments about whether or not my dolls talk and come alive when I am not home. It kind of bother me "sometimes"....I guess it is based on what day it is. Lol! Dolls are toys and mine are collectible toys, so my thoughts are get over it.

    1. Right, GG. They need to get over it. Since my doll room serves as my office, one person told me they didn't understand how I could work with all those eyes looking at me. My answer: They are not real. Their eyes cannot see.

    2. After losing most of my dolls when I was 18, I didn't collect any for quite some time and forgot how nervous they can make adults. I keep my Blythe's in my home office, in a cupboard, and was in the kitchen making coffee when a visiting friend asked me what I kept in the new cupboard. I'm a bit absent-minded so I asked,"What new cupboard?" Then I heard a shriek. Oh, yeah, "that" new cupboard.
Once she got over her surprise, my friend did think my dolls were cute which, I guess, is why we're friends. :-)

    3. I'm sorry you lost most of your dolls at 18, Maricha. That had to have been quite devastating.

The story about your friend's discovery of the contents of your new cupboard is funny. I'm sure it wasn't funny to your friend at the time. It is probably something that the two of you can laugh about now. It's good you have maintained your friendship.

      :-)

    4. Yes, it was devastating, more so than I realized until I started buying back dolls of the same brands I used to have. I'd really missed seeing those little faces I'd grown up with.

I think made the incident sound a bit more traumatic for my friend than it was. By the time I sat her down and gave her a bit of brandy to soothe her nerves, she was already pulling my dolls' eye-color changing strings to admire their variety and making suggestions about where I might find more supplies for my dollhouse in our town.

I think it was opening a cupboard where she thought I was storing my office supplies and, instead, facing 2 dozen dolls and their tiny dolls and furniture that startled her, not the dolls in particular.

She already knew I was collecting them and had seen some pictures of other people's Blythe's on Flickr, so she knew they were around, just not that they were all on the other side of that door. :D

    5. Rebuilding the collection has probably been rewarding for you and lessens the devastation of the loss.

I am sure the brandy did help settle your friend. :-)

  9. I'm pretty sure we all watched the ad in a completely different way than was intended. I just kept scanning to see what dolls were in the collection and the period being collected (like did they have a theme or specific type of doll they liked). I think I was a little desensitised to the twins because I just thought they were lifted from 'The Shining'...but I say keep eating those mandarins definitely helping the little girl make good life choices! "Drive!"

    1. There is at least one other Halos Choice commercial out on YouTube. This one with the doll theme is better, but I am being biased because of the dolls. I immediately noticed the '60's Playpal types and high-heel fashion dolls that appear from the '60s through '70s. There wasn't a particular theme in this eclectic collection. There were, however, not any black dolls. That is what I looked for first. I agree that the little girl made the right choice by leaving with her Halo because she didn't want to be their first black doll.

  11. My father in law came up to visit my husband and I. We put him in our spare guest room...aka my doll room, possibly future nursery. I had to warn him that he would be sharing his space with my 18 to 20 inch doll collection. My husband mistakenly told me the story about how his dad used to cut his sisters doll's hair off. I jokingly told my father in law that my dolls do not know the tale and he would be perfectly safe. He left early the next day before sunrise and called us from the road. Somehow I got the feeling that subconsciously my dolls must have given him flashbacks and not the good kind.

    1. Oh, Ticia, your story about your father-in-law's visit is hilarious. I guess being in the bedroom alone with the dolls was a bit much for your FIL.
