Barbie Looks Model #7 Out of the Box

Barbie Looks #7 is seen in a photo taken with the box removed and the doll still attached to the box liner.

In my previous post, I was in such a hurry to share the Walmart dot com buy link for Barbie Looks Model #7 that I did not take the time to remove the doll from the box for a full examination and description. With the link shared, my doll has now been removed from the box with all intricate details recorded in my spreadsheet, and the following additional photographs were taken for this post.

Model #7 posed with the certificate of authenticity and the components of the doll stand.

She maintained a similar pose without the accessories.

The new head sculpt is marked ©2021 on the back of the head. I immediately noticed the mole or beauty mark above her left nostril. Blue eyeshadow outlines her brown eyes.

With her two-piece fashion of a shimmery silver midriff top and matching mini skirt, she wears knee-high gray Roman-style boots. Made of vinyl, the toe area of the boots is open.

Her rooted raspberry-red hair is styled in a right-sided high ponytail with wavy ends that extend below her waist.

With the ponytail ends moved to the front, the back of the top is visible in this photo.

I don't particularly care for the appearance of the joints on these dolls which makes them look more like action figures. Imperfections and even scratches in the vinyl result from whatever jointing process Mattel is using. The back of this doll's upper thighs and the area immediately below the knee joints in the back were not spared from these unsightly imperfections.

Model 7's ears were pierced with the posts of the first pair of earrings she tried on (borrowed from Barbie Looks Model #2).

Model #7 rocks these oversized disk-shaped, faux diamond-encrusted earrings.

She opted to wear a smaller pair of triangular silver earrings instead.

BMR1959 with purple Bantu knots and Model #7 are shown in a complexion comparison photo. The BMR Barbie's complexion is darker than Model #7's. Both dolls use the petite Barbie body.

The difference in their complexion is enhanced in this close-up photograph. Look at their arms.

Yellow-top Made-to-Move (MTM) Barbie's complexion is slightly lighter than Model #7's. MTM has more yellow undertones while Model #7's complexion has red undertones.

A closer look at MTM and Model #7's arms illustrates the subtle difference in their skin tones. Again, look at their arms.

If the height challenge of the petite body style is not your preference, rebodying with yellow-top Made-to-Move Barbie is an option.

In the next two photos, Model #7 posed with her Barbie Looks predecessors.

Barbie Looks Models 4, 7, and 2

Each doll has a refreshingly different look.

Next, they dressed for the holidays.

Since it's all about her, Model #7 posed in her Christmas sweater alone for the final photo.

By the Sea Maya

By the Sea Maya arrived in a beautiful box.

Sold as a limited-edition preorder before the 73rd UFDC Convention that was held in Baltimore, MD in July 2021, By the Sea Maya had a scheduled delivery of September 2021. However, due to circumstances beyond anyone's control, the September delivery did not happen. My doll arrived during the third week of November directly from the merchant, and she was well worth the wait.

Maya by the Sea is part of the Ruby Red Fashion Friends collection of 14-inch vinyl string-jointed dolls. Maya has nine joints. Produced in a limited edition of 125 as a UFDC convention exclusive and sold only through the Happily Ever After website, my doll is #6 in the edition. She arrived in a beautifully decorated box that has her headshot image on the front. I took the following photos prior to and after opening all of her individually packaged items.

Along with Maya and her doll's headshot image, limited edition is printed in the upper right corner of the front of the box.

Inside the box, Maya and her accessories were well protected and individually packaged.

With the packaged accessories removed, this is how Maya was carefully presented.

I took this close-up of her beautiful face before removing her from the box. Maya has a removable wig which is part of the packaged accessories shown next. She has applied upper eyelashes, painted lower eyelashes, hazel eyes, a closed mouth with coral lip color, and perfectly blushed cheeks.

Maya's clothing and accessories

Maya's clothing and accessories include a nautical white blouse and navy-blue pleated skirt with white knit socks that have two navy-blue stripes, white panties (already on the doll and not shown in this image), and white lace-up faux leather sneakers. She has a stuffed stockinette doll that has screen-printed features and socks. The doll wears a removable nautical dress. Accessories also include a blonde-streaked brown curly wig for Maya and a numbered certificate of authenticity.

An image of By the Sea Maya and her dolly is on the front of the certificate of authenticity.

By the Sea Maya and the separately-sold Kayla are featured on the back of the certificate of authenticity.

The back of the certificate of authenticity reads, "This certificate warrants that your RubyRedFashionFriends By the Sea Maya 2021 special edition is original and authentic. The owner of this doll and certificate is the owner of one of 125 limited dolls in the world. No. 0006"

Maya's doll is 4-inches tall. Her dress is removable.

14-inch all-vinyl string-jointed By the Sea Maya poses with her 4-inch stockinette doll.

The two dolls pose together in this view from the back.

Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy your day, and stay safe.

When I Fell in Love with Delia

Delia by Helen Kish, #2 of 25 in a 2007 photograph courtesy of Finders Keepers Consignment Online

It was in 2007 when I saw the all-porcelain, approximately 11-inch tall Delia by Helen Kish on eBay. I fell in love! I attempted to win the auction, but I was outbid. The next best thing was for me to contact the seller to ask permission to use the auction photo (shown above) in the book I was writing at the time. The seller complied and provided all the details about Delia that I needed to complete the entry on page 269 of Black Dolls a Comprehensive Guide to Celebrating, Collecting, and Experiencing the Passion. The auctioned Delia was #2 of 25 dolls worldwide!

Delia #1 of 25

Who knew that some 14 years later, another opportunity to own Delia would present itself to me, and who knew that I would actually acquire the doll? Yes! I did, and my Delia is #1 of 25 worldwide. Number 1, the very first one Kish made in 1988.

As a result of this acquisition, because of Delia's historical significance to me, and the fact that she is one of Helen Kish's first dark-skinned dolls, I have installed the doll in my virtual black doll museum where photos of my doll and pertinent information are included.

Am I a happy collector? Yes, absolutely, I am!

Another Redress and Wig for Girly Fashion Doll Kayla

Supplies for creating a wig for I'm a Girly Fashion Doll Kayla

After Kayla tried on the African girl's wig (in the previous post), I decided to buy supplies to make a wig for Kayla. I purchased hair netting (that I didn't use), synthetic hair locs, a latch hook crochet needle, and hair ornaments. Not shown above, and what was used, is a wide mesh headband. This was used instead of the hair netting.

In this photo, Kayla models the black mesh headband after it was tapered to fit her oddly-shaped head. (I wanted a brown mesh headband, but brown was not in stock.)

The mesh headband is secured in place with a silicone ponytail holder that is placed over the edge of the headband and into the circumferential groove in Kayla's head. I left a little slack in the headband so I could easily weave the loc strands into the holes in the mesh.

I chose brown synthetic locs for Kayla.

The color and texture of the locs are better visible in this photo.

I started from the back and worked my way around the crown of Kayla's head before filling in the center with the locs.

The top ends of the locs are prelooped which eliminates the need to create loops with each loc before weaving into (whatever is being used as the base). In my case, the mesh headband is the base. I used the crochet needle to weave the first few locs shown above. This was a slower process than doing it by hand. So, I completed most of the weave without the crochet needle.

The Completed Look

After trimming and adding hair ornaments, Kayla models her new wig.

Close-up

View from the back (additional trimming took place after this photo).

This side view was taken before all hair ornaments were added.

Kayla has a total of 10 gold-tone hair ornaments.

A Quick Redress

Dressed in a yellow long-sleeved tunic, black leggings, red boots, with a red ponytail holder in her hair, Kayla channels her inner Amanda Gorman, the first person to be named National Youth Poet Laureate of the United States in 2017; the youngest White House inaugural poet having recited her poem, “The Hill We Climb,” during President Biden’s inauguration, and the first poet ever to perform during the Super Bowl.

The tunic came with a thin black belt. I chose to belt it with a red ribbon.

Amanda Gorman is also the author of the book, "The Hill We Climb," which is the inaugural poem recited at President Biden's inauguration. Gorman's new book, Call Us What We Carry, will be released in December 2021.

Along with the gold hair ornaments for Kayla, I thought about my Heidi Ott doll when I saw and purchased a pack of wooden hair ornaments. She models her new ornaments in the last photos.

These are indeed perfect for her.

The ornaments decorate the front, both sides, and the back of the hair.

The entire pack of 14 wooden hair ornaments was used.
______

After drafting this post, I checked Amazon to see if quantities of Kayla remain. I was surprised to see the price lowered to $11.98, about half the price I paid. Even if you do not find Kayla's face appealing, the wig is worth $12. The all-vinyl body is worth more. Perhaps the body can even be used with another head. Just saying ... Here's the buy page link.
