Shanelle Onyx from Shadow High Series 1

Shanelle Onyx from Shadow High Series 1 by MGA Entertainment arrived in April. I just opened the shipping box this past weekend, but after the doll arrived, I recorded the following description in my Excel spreadsheet based on the manufacturer's description.

I Am Not Flattered

The culprit site that was down when I last checked is up again and has resumed copying posts from this blog, Black Doll Collecting. Any posts seen there that end in ©Black Doll Collecting/dbg were first written by dbg and published on the Black Doll Collecting Blog. I will again notify the domain host of the culprit site and take some other measures to prevent TOYNEWZ. COM from copying my content.

I agree with Oscar Wilde's complete quote, particularly the last six words that many people omit,  “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness.”

Toynewz . com is obviously so mediocre that it has to copy text from a multitude of other sites to appear great. Unfortunately, it is not a great or even good site. It is a culprit website published by a callous individual or a group of callous individuals who use other people's content to boost relevance. Toynewz. com is a fraud. Their domain host needs to shut them down permanently!

Copying content from others is a form of theft.

Thank you again, Ms. Leo over at I-Luv-Dolls for the heads up about this site copying my content.

Doll-Related Birthday Gifts

A huge shipping box arrived the week before my birthday containing beautifully wrapped and packaged gifts.

Only doll-related birthday gifts are featured in this blog post. My first doll-related birthday gift of the year, LOL Surprise O.M.G. Queen Sways arrived in March, two months before my actual birthday. A link to the original post about Queen Sways is included below the other birthday items that came this month. Additionally, at the end of the post, I've included buy links to anything that is currently available on Amazon.

The Makings of a Ketanji Brown Jackson Doll

After Ketanji Brown Jackson was confirmed as the next Associate Supreme Court Justice, making history as the first African American woman who reportedly was the most qualified nominee, I simultaneously desired a Barbie in her likeness. Hopefully, Mattel will make one, but I couldn't wait.

Darice fashion doll for crafting, circa 1980s-1990s

As a collector of Barbie clones and competitors, I made an offer on this Barbie competitor after seeing it in an auction listing. The offer was accepted.

Listen: I am going to cook my baby

I just listened to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's podcast, "I am going to cook my baby" from April 4, 2021.

Take a listen at the link that doll-friend Julius Maloney shared with me.

The proof remains that representation matters. Children, particularly children of color, must see themselves in a positive light. The positive sense-of-self teaching begins in the home. Instilling cultural and racial pride to ward off negative messages from outside sources should begin in infancy. This is often difficult to do based on socioeconomic differences between cultures, but any and every attempt to show a child they are loved and that they are just as important as the next child are tools any parent can use to help boost a child's self-concept. Doll representation is another important tool.

28-inch Barbie Before and After

28-inch Rainbow Sparkle Best Fashion Friend Barbie had tangled and matted hair when found.

During a recent thrift store visit, I saw a pair of long brown vinyl legs on a bottom shelf as I was exiting the toy section.
