A word from the Detroit Doll Show host, Sandra
Epps:
I believe it is important for Women
and Children to see themselves in the products that they use. Dolls teach
children about themselves and the world around them. Playing with dolls helps
children develop cognitive, fine motor and self-help skills. Most importantly,
Dolls can teach self love. Often times than not brown women and children
struggle to love themselves because of the negative stereotype portrayed in the
media, in addition to society's depiction of "beauty." It is
true that image is everything and to see ones reflection in their dolls,
magazines, television, etc. is most healthy. We as aunts, uncles,
mothers, fathers, and friends must not only define our own beauty but encourage
our children to love the skin that they are in.
