Patricia's Ring

Patricia by Patricia Glasco

Readers first met Patricia in my Long Tall Sally post of April 28, 2014.

Because some of her fingers are separate, I wanted Patricia to wear at least one ring.  Initially, I thought an adjustable child's ring or perhaps a toe ring made for an adult would work.  Since I had been unable to find just the right ring for Patricia, I decided to make a ring using copper wire that I keep on hand.

I have been a keyboarder for over 40 years.  As a result of the repetitive motion this task places on my fingers and wrists, I developed carpal tunnel symptoms some 10+ years ago.  These symptoms include numbness, tingling, and pain of my index fingers and wrists. The ergonomic keyboard I have used since the onset alleviated the symptoms, but what really has helped is pure copper.

Copper bracelets and my home made finger spirals made from pure copper wire

I began constantly wearing copper bracelets, at least two on each wrist, as well as wire spirals on the affected fingers when keyboarding.   The finger spirals are made from pure cooper wire.  I purchased several yards of it from Home Depot years ago.

Finger spiral -- my home made miracle cure for finger pain, numbness, and tingling

I must have looked like Edward Scissorhands with the spiral wire on my finger while keyboarding, but it served the intended purpose of easing and eventually eliminating the finger pain, numbness, and tingling.  I no longer wear these spiral finger "adornments," but I keep them and the extra copper wire on hand, just in case.  I still constantly wear my copper bracelets, however, and every now and then a brief soak in catchup gives them a new penny gleam.

While Patricia does not suffer from numbness, pain, or tingling in any of her fingers, I used some of my copper wire to fashion a ring for her index finger.  Just as I would wrap a piece of the copper around my finger, I did the same with Patricia's finger to make an adjustable ring.  The excess was cut with scissors.  I curved the ends around to create ovals.

I am pleased with the result.

  1. The ring is perfect! Eventually she going to need a pinkie ring.

    1. Now, now, Brini. I don't want her to look like Mr. T.
      :-)

But maybe a pinkie ring on the other hand won't be too much.

  2. I have a lot of copper rings from back when my fingers used to give me trouble. They really do work. Does the doll have any toes? Will she be getting a toe ring too? Lovely design you created. In the large photo they look like two tear drops passing one another.

    1. Thanks for the testimony, Muff.

I have some copper rings although I don't wear them often. I had a couple designed last year for the middle index finger of my right hand which sustained torn ligaments in a freak accident. This morning I feel like I need a full body copper ring -- fell outside on concrete yesterday, another freak accident. Got to be more careful.

Patricia has toes, but they are not separate, so no toe rings are planned for her.

    2. (What in the world is a middle index finger?) That should have read: ...for the middle finger of my right hand.

  3. That ring is lovely, Debbie. I never knew that copper alleviated symptoms of carpal tunnel. I sleep in the uncomfortable wrist guards when my symptoms flare up, so it's good to have this information.

I'm sorry to hear that you fell on the concrete! Are you okay? I hope that you're feeling all better by now.

    1. I was prescribed one of those cock-up splints to wear while I work and never could get used to it.

Yes, wearing copper bracelets works wonders as a natural healing aid for carpal tunnel-like symptoms. If you purchase bracelets be sure they are pure copper or solid copper. One of my favorites was found at a thrift store years ago. My other two favorites were purchased on eBay. They are penny bracelets, made of several pennies that have been soldered together. I don't wear these for fashion but I cannot count the times I am stopped by strangers who ask or say such things as: are those real pennies, can I touch, I love your bracelets, or does copper really work?

The fall shook up some stuff, but I am okay. Thank God nothing broke. I was sore as heck the day after, but I am much better now. Taking 3 ibuprofen immediately after the fall and the day following helped along with the apple cider vinegar that I add to my tea (ACV is another natural anti-inflammatory agent) on a daily basis. Eating slices of fresh pineapple (which is also said to have anti-inflammatory properties) has probably helped, too.

      Thanks for asking.

    2. Thanks for more information on the copper bracelets, Debbie. I will be on the lookout here for some. You are just a wealth of knowledge. I didn't know about ACV or pineapples, either. I'm glad that you're feeling much better!

    3. You are welcome, Roxanne. Raw, unfiltered ACV should be ingested in moderation. Too much can irritate your stomach. I read that it can be applied topically to aching joints. It's supposed to help with weight loss, but I am not sure if that claim is true.
