Happy Birthday Mr. President!

FLOTUS is prepared to celebrate POTUS's 52nd birthday

Dressed in The Barbie Look On the Red Carpet red gown and red open toe pumps, accessorized with silver clutch and the added-by-me diamond drop earrings and matching diamond necklace, my now one-of-a-kind 1:6 scale First Lady Michelle Obama wishes President Barack Obama a happy 52nd birthday!

Happy Birthday, Mr. President!  (Mr. President is a Hot Toys TrueType Advanced Version African American figure.)

"Thank you, Michelle.  Because of you, it will be happy."

FLOTUS began as Barbie Basics Model 10.  Without cutting her long silky hair, I restyled it into a bang-less pageboy to create a style similar to that worn by the First Lady prior to January 2013.

The following photos illustrate how you too can create a pageboy without permanently shortening the length of a doll's hair.

This picture shows the original loose length of Model 10's hair.

Band the hair, placing the first rubber band just below the desired length, place an additional rubber band below the first  to hold loose strands in place.  Note:  I added a third rubber band near the end before completing the fold, tuck, and smooth procedure, illustrated next.

Fold the lower ends under so that only the top banded portion is exposed, as illustrated above.

The folded portion is folded under again and tucked into place to conceal the top banded area.  Glide a hair pin horizontally through the folded area, if desired.

Next, smooth the loose hair over any exposed humps and tuck away any loose strands to finalize the look as shown below.
Model 10 with pageboy 'do is an excellent stand in as a playscale FLOTUS.

TrueType AA (Obama) and TrueType AA (Terrence Howard) Comparison

An anonymous commenter to my blog post of August 20, 2010, regarding the TrueType African American (Obama) figure, wanted to know:
Can I add the True Type Terrance Howard head to the True Type Obama body? Do the colors match well enough? I have been trying to buy True Type Terrance Howard but can not find it. I can only find the head.
I replied, "yes," to the first question and promised to take comparison photographs to illustrate the complexion and height differences  between these two figures.

(TrueType Obama removed his shirt without a fuss for the complexion comparison, but he adamantly refused to remove his tie.)

As shown in the above image, the "Obama" figure's tan-brown complexion has gray undertones while the "Terrence Howard" figure's complexion has a reddish-brown hue.  With a head swap, I think the difference will be unnoticeable or barely so.

As shown better in this back-to-back image, at 12- and 11-1/2 inches, respectively, the "Obama" figure is taller than the Terrence Howard Figure.

Note: I did not remove the heads to test whether or not they will actually fit the other body, but I assume since they are both TrueType, they will.

TrueType Family

Imaginary 1/6 scale couple:  TrueType AA Male and Barbie Basic Collection 001, Model 10

Basic 10 now wears Mixis Sunshine Opal's turquoise sundress.  She borrowed black leggings from another doll because the length of the dress is a little short for a woman of her age group (in my opinion).  They are a lovely couple, but something is missing.

The children (Ty's Li'l Ones) and pet dog, Bo, complete the family portrait.  They are indeed a lovely family.

"Obama" Meets Obama: Hot Toys' TrueType versus DID's Action Figure

Hot Toys' TrueType Figure Advanced Version African American (modeled after President Obama) arrived yesterday from ToysNSwords.com.  Prior to his arrival, I had an outfit in mind.

His muscular physique interfered drastically with the Ken fashion I had on hand.

Ken's sunglasses do fit him.

Civilian pieces purchased from Old Joe Infirmary (they're offline for a while) will have to do for now:  a lavender dress shirt, black denim jeans, and black mock-lace oxfords.  The look on his face is stern, but he appears relaxed in casual clothes.  I did not want to "suit him" up anyway.

In comparison to the Obama figure by DID, I like Hot Toys' figure better for the following reasons:
  • His complexion is even--the head color matches his body and extremities.
  • The head sculpt better captures the President's likeness including ear size. Unlike DID, they failed to include the mole by his nose, however.
  • Hot Toys painted the hair better.
  • Both figures can stand without the assistance of a display stand, but Hot Toys included one.
  • Hot Toys' extra thigh muscles may be an added plus for some.  I quickly removed them.
  • The Hot Toys figure has one set of extra hands (the DID figure has two extra sets).  The fingers are flexible on the Hot Toys figure.  DID's are not.
  • They both pose well, but the DID figure has more abdominal muscles and more articulation in that area.
I took several additional photos.  Click to enlarge in another window for better detail.

All they need now is at least one 11-1/2-inch vinyl replica of the First Lady.

Hot Toy's TrueType (Obama) and DID's Obama Action Figures (in box and in white shirt)
PS  I should mention that DID's figure has two heads.  I purchased an extra body for the open-mouthed head, which is the one illustrated above in the white shirt.  The other, which is dressed in a suit, is kept in the box along with the accessories:  fringed American flag with pole and stand, stool, microphone, extra necktie, and extra hands.
