Rock Flowers Clone? Who Am I?

Who am I?

The following note from a reader asked for doll identification help:

Hi I saw your website and wonder if you can help me? I recently acquired a black doll that looks very much like a rock flowers doll or certainly the body. Can you help me identify this doll? I would really appreciate your help... The doll has 17 and K17 stamped on the head and no other markings.
 Kind regards

The doll is 6-1/4 inches tall with one-piece nonjointed body that looks identical to that used for Mattel's Rock Flowers dolls; however, the head is not the same.

With the owner's permission, the photos she shared by email are shared here to solicit help from readers in identifying the doll.  Specifically, she wants to know if the doll is a Mattel prototype. Based on the manufacturer's marks and the fact that the head sculpt differs from Rosemary Rock Flowers (see next photo), I would doubt this is the case, but anything is possible.

A photo of my (preloved) Rosemary Rock Flowers doll, taken against the computer monitor displaying a photo of the unknown doll, illustrates their different head sculpts.

The unknown doll is dressed in a Topper (Dawn) fashion

If you know who made this doll, the doll's name, or any other information about it, please share the info in a comment.  Thank you in advance!

Who Am I? Black Brevetatto Doll from Late 1950s

I received the above photo attached to an email from someone seeking to know the identity of the above doll.  Portions of the email are shared below:

Hello.

My mother has a beautiful, storied doll and maybe your books contain reference so we can know more about it. It's the black Brevettato doll, which blinks its big blue eyes. In the pic, the doll is sitting on my mother's sofa.

It was probably made in the late 1950s. In the early 1960s, it belonged to a German girl [who lived] in the south of Brazil. [The girl's mother] decided to give it to my mother as a gift.

Do any of your books include reference about that kind of doll? If so, which one should I buy?

Best,

M.

Upon request, M. supplied the following additional photos:

This close-up shows the missing paint from the doll's face.

The "voice box" is in the lower portion of the abdomen.  For a white, still unnamed version found on the Internet, the voice box was marked "Made in Italy."

When in a lying position, the doll's blue sleep eyes close.
M. added:

During years, decades, my grandmother kept the doll hidden away from potentially destructive hands of the boys my mother had. Now she returned the doll to her, just recently. My mother wants to restore the paint on its face, but she wants to do it the right way.

None of my books (those written by me or others) reference dolls made by Brevettato.  Based on the information provided and cursory Internet searches, what I know is that white versions have been made of this approximately 65-cm (25-inch) circa 1950s hard plastic doll with a voice box and blue sleep eyes.

This white doll, marked "Cares," whose shoes were marked "Mod. Brev. 9 Milano," appears to use a similar, if not the same, head sculpt as M's mother's Black version.

Brevetatto is an Italian word that means patent.  I believe the doll was made in Italy, but other than that and the information M. provided, I know nothing else about this lovely doll that bears a striking resemblance (except for the blue eyes) to the doll "Numa" used in Alfred Hitchcock's "Where the Woodbind Twineth."

Do you know this doll's ID?

Who Am I - Doll from Ireland?

What I know about this doll is that it is a full-body composition doll with spring joints and an astrakhan wig, circa 1930s-1940s with a working "ma-ma" voice box or crier, probably sold and possibly made in Ireland.  It does not have manufacturer's marks, which makes it difficult to trace it to a specific doll maker.  The current owner has allowed me to share her query and images about the doll here.  They are as follows:

Hello,

This is my moms doll. she named her 'Pamela'. she gave it to me when i was a teenager. Im trying to identify it.
INFO:

She is over 55+yr old.
She is made of what i can say hard plastic? black. Lips are painted on pink.
Her eyes open + close.
When you lay her down she 'cries'.
Her hair (as you can see by pic) is a 'rug like' piece glued on.
She has her original shoes/socks+pants her dress is new (12yrs old) not her original.
On bottom of shoes it says "Cinderella #3".
She is hollow inside.
Her arms/legs move with what looks like springs/hinges?!.
I would love to know what type doll she is. what year or approx yr around she was made.

Thank you,

If anyone can add additional information about this doll or a doll of this type, feel free to post a comment.  Thanks!

Who Am I - Pedigree/NZ (New Zealand)?

The owner of this doll desires to know its identity and more about Pedigree dolls made in New Zealand.

The doll is described as follows:
She is 26cm [10 inches] tall, has a Green bead necklace on a Red thread, grass skirt over a Red material.

The back of her head says PEDIGREE (only just readable) the tag on her skirt says PEDIGREE MADE IN N.Z.

She is a soft rubber/plastic type doll. Her eyes [don't] close, she has Red cheeks. (refer to photo)

I would like to know a bit about Pedigree dolls made in N.Z, i can only find hard plastic walky talky type that were made in England.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again, Dave Rushbrook.
Chiefly distributed in the United Kingdom, Pedigree dolls and dolls made using Pedigree doll molds were also made and sold in other countries, New Zealand being one of them.

The following link offers information about Lines Brothers, who made Pedigree dolls:

http://www.vam.ac.uk/moc/collections/toys/manufacturers/britain/lines_bros/index.html

This unknown tribal doll, based on the material from which it is made (vinyl/rubber), is circa 1960s.

If you can help Dave ID this doll and/or add additional information about Pedigree dolls made in New Zealand, please do so as a comment to this blog.  Thanks!

Who Am I - Doll from Australia?

From time to time, I receive emails requesting help with dolls' identification, specifically black dolls.  While I do not offer free appraisals, if I know a doll's name, its maker, and/or year of manufacture, I do not mind sharing that information.  The most recent request for aid in identifying a doll came in this week.  I was not able to offer the owner any information about this interesting doll.  With her permission, I am posting the picture and the information she shared about it here.

My name is Michelle and I live in Brisbane, Australia.
I'm trying to find some information about a doll I own...and have owned since the 70s (it may be older as it was passed on to me by someone else) but can't find any information. I was wondering if you had ever seen a doll like this before.
The only marking is DA1 in a circle and JapanHe's about 29cm (11.4inches) tall and is made of a hard plastic. His arms move and his body twists at the chest.

Anything you could add would be really helpful.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Michelle

Can you help Michelle identify her doll?   Thanks!
