Cozy Coat and Dressy Dress Lizette

As she was upon arrival.

She is 16 inches tall, and I love every inch of Cozy Coat & Dressy Dress Lizette! 

During one of Wilde Imagination's sales back in January or earlier this month, I ordered this doll.  She remained in the unopened shipper until this past weekend when I finally found the time to open the box and give her a thorough examination.

Still in the box for all of two minutes, I took another in-box photo of Cozy Coat... Lizette.

Her fashion is much better than I expected and I was surprised (not having read the full description before ordering) that her wig is removable.  She is described by the Wilde Imagination folks as follows:

Honey-toned Lizette arrives with a swappable wig of mink tresses in a classic style and brown inset eyes peeking out behind thick lashes. Her delightfully feminine ensemble includes a darling pink and brown long-sleeved dress beneath a tender pink multi boucle coat just sparkling with sequins.  Paired with pink tights, booties, gloves matching her dress and a fuzzy faux fur scarf in soft pink, Lizette is cozy and dressy all at once!  LE 1000

Before joining her sister-Lizettes, my sixth Lizette took the following photos to model her complete ensemble:

Instead of wearing her animal print gloves that match the fabric of her dress, Lizette opted to hold them. 

Lizette's pale pink faux fur scarf and her coat keep her nice and cozy.

With coat removed, still holding gloves, Lizette has draped her pink (it looks white, but it really is pink) fur scarf across her shoulder. She wears pink tights and pink suede anklets.  Such a breathtakingly lovely doll; it is difficult for me to resist buying new versions.

Will six be enough?  I am not sure, especially since Bold Move will be released soon. Time and sales will tell with "sale" being the deciding factor.

Lovely Urban Legend Lizette Stands Out Among the Rest

Lizette writes:
Sweet New Orleans is a haunted town, there is history and mystery galore. From old ghost stories to voodoo, my town is filled with lore!  When I want to create my own folk story, I simply don my leather and plaid.  I'm transformed into URBAN LEGEND LIZETTE, and Pru says I don't look half bad.

Lizette looks good in anything she wears.  

Made in a limited edition of 1000, Urban Lizette has amber inset eyes, rooted brunette hair styled with two French braids on top with ends wrapped and pinned; the back hangs loose.  She has honey skin tone and wears a red plaid flannel dress over a striped and collared bodysuit, black tights and black thigh-high boots.  Her ensemble is complete with a faux leather jacket, belt, and designer earrings. 

The Urban doll is my fifth Lizette.  After her arrival a few weeks ago, she took the above photos and posed for a couple of group shots with the other Lizettes that reside here.

 

From far left to right, the Lizettes are:  School Dazed, Totally Coolness, Urban Legend, Essential Lizette, and All-Natural Lizette Spice

Totally Coolness and Essential Lizette have painted eyes.  I prefer the inset eyes of the other three.  Urban Legend and All-Natural have tied as my two favorites, but I think Urban desires to be the new "it" girl alone.

Black-Doll Cover Girls Here and There

Seeing Black dolls on the cover of major doll publications remains a rare occurrence.  This lack of representation on the cover as well as inside these publications is why I discontinued my subscriptions to all, with the exception of one.  I receive quarterly issues of United Federation of Doll Club's Doll News because I am a member of that organization through my Motor City Doll Club associate membership.

On a positive note, UFDC's Fall 2012 Doll News began what I hope will be a trend toward correcting Black cover-doll underexposure.  That issue is discussed here. In addition to the fashion doll that graces the cover of that issue, four articles on Black dolls and a Black paper doll are included within.  Now that was history that has not yet been repeated.  Perhaps others will eventually catch the wave.

February is Black History Month.  Haute Dolls magazine features a Black doll on the cover of their February 2014 issue.  Will we see more of this throughout the year?  I certainly hope so!

I now own dolls and/or fashions that have been featured on doll magazine covers in the recent past.

Wilde Imagination's All-Natural Lizette Spice has two wigs, as shown above.  She arrived wearing a simple tan dress and tan strappy high-heel shoes (the straight wig, original dress, and shoes are now stored in her wardrobe).

While my newly acquired All-Natural Lizette Dionne (shown above) is not the doll featured on the May 2013 issue of Haute Doll, another Lizette Dionne by Wilde Imagination is the cover doll for that issue.  The cover doll wears the Just Peachy fashion that my All-Natural Lizette now wears below:

Although it cannot be determined from her pensive expression, Lizette enjoys seeing herself as the cover girl of the magazine that she touches ever so gently to make sure this is not an illusion.

The Limited Edition Cynthia Bailey Collectors Doll by One World Doll Project (OWDP), designed by Stacey McBride-Irby is featured on the January 2014 cover of Dolls magazine.  I fell in love with my doll and wrestled with the desire to debox her or not.  To resolve this dilemma, I purchased a second doll during a sale at AngelicDreamz.   The second doll's certificate of authenticity is number 161, so I deboxed the first doll, whose certificate is numbered 250.  I had already opened the first doll's box.  Therefore, the second doll will remain sealed within her box and her shipper.  A photo of my deboxed doll along with the magazine on which she is the cover girl (that I had to purchase individually since my subscription has lapsed) is shown below:

Cynthia Bailey Limited Edition Collectors Doll by the One World Doll Project, designed by Stacey McBride-Irby, is featured on the cover of the January 2014 issue of Dolls magazine.  Inside this issue,  OWDP co-founder, Trent T. Daniel discusses his goals for the company and the Prettie Girls line.

So while improvement has been made regarding the use of  Black dolls on the cover of major doll publications, equal representation has not yet been achieved. Magazine editors/publishers and others should realize by now that Black dolls are as relevant and as desired as others.  I personally would like to see more feature articles on Black dolls with Black dolls on the cover as well as at least one article on black dolls included in every issue of every doll publication, not just in February.  Until that day arrives, my lapsed subscriptions to doll publications will remain as such, and I will continue to write the Black Doll Collecting Blog, where vintage-to-modern Black dolls are always the main focus.

Happy Easter from Lizette Dionne and Me

Wilde Imagination's Lizette Dionne looks lovely in her peach and white knit ensemble

Lizette wanted to share Happy Easter/Happy Resurrection Day greetings to the readers of this blog. She also wanted to share her lovely peach and white knit dress with matching hat and scarf.  These were lovingly well made by eBay seller  Maggie and Kate Create.  Seller sent Lizette's pearl bracelet, too.  To complete her new look, she wears peach and white faux snake skin open-toe pumps, purchased from Facets by Marcia.  Lizette has her eyes on a pair of brown knee-high lace-up boots to pair with another Maggie and Kate Fashion for the winter.

Wearing the current ensemble, Lizette feels fabulous.  I think she looks as fabulous as she feels, so spring-like.  She'll be the grandest lady in the Easter parade.

One of my most memorable Bible verses memorized as a young child for the  Easter Sunday service is the New King James version of John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."  It seemed simple then and it seems simple now to believe in a power greater than yourself.  I knew I did not want to perish and everlasting life sounded wonderful.  I also knew that man could not have possibly made the wondrous heavens and earth, so there had to be something greater.  I believed then and my faith today is even greater.

I believe... typing these two words caused me to "sing in my head" the Sounds of Blackness inspirational song, I Believe...

Lizette Loves This One Better!

I was prepared to dress Rahel in her original Ethiopian dress after Lizette borrowed her school fashion earlier today. Before I could get Rahel dressed, Lizette indicated she wanted to try on Rahel's Ethiopian dress, "just for size," she said.  After rolling my eyes at her and sighing, I permitted her to try it on.

Essentially Lizette is redressed in Heart 4 Hearts Rahel's original Ethiopian fashion (and loves it, too)!

Rahel's school fashion was indeed temporary for Lizette. She prefers the Ethiopian dress (which is actually a yellow body suit and crimson woven wrap skirt).  Rahel was very sweet about sharing and said, "I don't mind.  I like my school uniform better anyway."

I added a pair of tiny gold hoop earrings to complete Lizette's new, more permanent look.

School Girl Lizette

Lizette was redressed this morning in Heart 4 Heart Rahel's school fashion. Lizette's original tights had to be removed.  Otherwise, the skirt would be too tight.  Rahel's feet are flat and much larger than Lizette's high-heel feet.

The brown ankle boots she wears are by Somers and Field made for Daisy and Willow dolls from 2001.  These snug fitting boots were formerly worn by Antoinette Spice (who is now shoeless but still wears the rest of the Poor Boy Somers and Field fashion).

Lizette has successfully mixed and matched her new (temporary) look.  She thanks Rahel and Antoinette for assisting her.
