JHD Doll's 5th Anniversary Collection Midnight Orchid YaYa

I purchased JHD Fashion Doll's 5th Anniversary Collection Midnight Orchid YaYa unclothed from a fellow black fashion-doll enthusiast. I had been on the fence about purchasing this doll. In online photos, the lip color appeared too light for the doll's "obsidian" complexion and the shape of the lips appeared too pouty or over-sculpted in my original opinion. So, YaYa was not a consideration for me until the same enthusiast offered this undressed doll to me for a price that I couldn't refuse. By the time of purchase, I could see the doll's potential and eagerly awaited her arrival.

First impression: YaYa is gorgeous!

YaYa did not disappoint! I fell in love with her immediately. Oh my, this doll is gorgeous with a capital G. While waiting for YaYa to arrive, I was troubled by the thought of finding something elegant enough for her to wear. If she were a real woman, I know she would accept nothing less than anything haute couture, and I couldn't think of anything that fit that category in my current limited collection of fashion-doll clothes.

I tried a three-piece black and white tweed suit on YaYa, which she models below, first without shoes. (I have somehow misplaced but hopefully not discarded my bag of 12-inch fashion doll shoes!)

Fashion Ensemble #1

YaYa's first fashion choice

Yaya models this fashion with the black faux leather bandeau tank top that was included with it. Because of her obsidian (ebony) complexion. I thought a more vibrant (such as red) or lighter color would work better with this ensemble.

A white top does look better with the black and white skirt.

After searching through my fashion doll clothing, I found a white lacy crop top to pair with the black and white ensemble. I also found a pair of white shoes, which are not currently in vogue, but they are the only white pair I could locate.

With the jacket on, YaYa and I both felt this ensemble worked well with her physique and complexion. She struck several dancing and prancing poses to illustrate her pleasure.

Articulated in the usual five areas (neck, upper arms, and upper legs), YaYa's articulation extends to the upper torso, elbows, wrists, and knees.

With a little clowning around, YaYa further showed off her moves.

With YaYa facing backward, I captured a photo of her black-rooted hair which is wavy and extends below her waist.

YaYa loves her stiletto nails which are painted red with silver tips.

(YaYa's hands are supposed to be removable, but I could not remove them with gentle tugs.)

Her brown side-glancing eyes with blue-corner highlights, are lined above and below with lavender eyeshadow. YaYa's upper eyelashes are applied. The lower lashes are hand-painted. Her lip color is mauve. 

I added pearl studs to YaYa's pre-pierced ears. The studs are actually 3/4-inch pearlized petite pins found in the sewing section of a big box store.

Fashion Ensemble #2

In this photo, Barbie Fashionista #82 wears a reproduction of a 1965 Barbie fashion.

I wanted a more sophisticated look for YaYa and remembered Mattel's reproduction of the 1965 Barbie Matinee Fashion #1640 that Barbie Fashionista #82 wore in the photo above and had worn until YaYa arrived.

The two dolls, YaYa and Barbie Fashionista #82, agreed to do a fashion swap.

The reproduced Barbie Matinee Fashion #1640 includes a red sheath and red pumps that YaYa models in this photo.

Before YaYa tried on the red jacket, because I could not remove her hands, I wrapped them with thin plastic to prevent her fingernails from snagging the lining of the snug sleeves. (I did not have to do this with the black and white tweed jacket.)

YaYa illustrates the ease of putting her plastic-wrapped hand through the tight jacket sleeve opening.

After the jacket was on, YaYa struck another pose.

With the hat added, YaYa wears the complete ensemble in this photo.

Fashionista #82 Models the Tweed Ensemble

With her wig removed, Bea (Fashionista #82) wore the tweed skirt with the white crop top, white shoes, and black stud earrings. In the next three photos in the above collage, the black bandeau was worn with the skirt with black stud earrings and white shoes; with white stud earrings and white shoes; and with black stud earrings and black shoes. In the final photo on the far right, the jacket was added.

For her final look, Fashionista #82 wears her wig with the complete tweed ensemble. (The wig was made from my mother's hair.)

Bea admires YaYa

The ladies both love their new clothes.

On a doll stand with clear rubber bands around the shoes to hold them in place, YaYa continues to stun. (She'll get new red shoes that fit properly soon.)

Slay All Day Keeki Adaeze with Video

Slay All Day Keeki Adaeze, Integrity Toys

Slay All Day Keeki Adaeze is from Integrity Toys' Meteor Collection. She's gorgeous. Please allow my video review and still photos to illustrate this after reading the manufacturer's doll specifics and description.

Enclosed in plastic bags, Keeki's accessories were attached to the box liner. 

The COA indicates the production of only 500 dolls; the website indicates the production is an open-edition concept.

Keeki's earrings and bracelet are made of metal (not plastic!); the high-heel shoes have holographic straps.

...and another.

Yes, her face is quite gorgeous. The thick, tightly coiled black hair is closely rooted.

Keeki has a hang tag that reads "Meteor™" on one side and "Integrity Toys" on the other. Her long fingers have pink stiletto fingernails. The hands are removable to easily accommodate her bracelet.

Keeki's toenails are painted pink. The doll stand bears the Meteor™ name.

Their head sculpts are strikingly similar.

Just for Fun

Keeki fashioned a skirt from this foam fruit net which probably needs to be belted.

I've temporarily created an asymmetrical skirt using a piece of fabric. It's taped in place for now. I will make a no-sew skirt for her soon.
