Does Anyone Know Anything About This Guy?

Unknown playscale male by ES Toys
I found this playscale guy on eBay for $2.99 with postage of $3.48.  He was waiting at the post office for me after having arrived on the 24th of this month.  The counter PO clerk retrieved him from the back after I handed her my notice because the padded shipper would not fit in my PO box.

She handed me the package and asked, "Is this the package you're expecting?"
"I wasn't expecting anything."  I answered.

I was shocked by her comment: "You order so much."

She received simultaneous silence and a frown from me.

I was speechless because most things I order are shipped to my home address.  Very rarely do I have anything shipped to my PO box but perhaps since she works there and that is the same post office that handles my home mail, she may see my name on packages frequently.  She may have been joking, but her comment took me aback for a few seconds.

Anyway, does anyone know who this hunk of dark chocolate is?  His buttocks is marked:
ES Toys
Made in China

Markings on buttocks:  ES Toys/Made in China

I will share more pictures after I find something he can wear.  His wide hips may prevent him from wearing Ken Fashionistas clothes, but those are what I am going to try first.

  1. Okay I don't really have a constructive commentary to make, but this hunk of dark chocolate to me is pretty well made! The torso sculpt is very detailed and the articulation looks like it has a lot of action figure potential...

And speaking of action figures, this sculpt quality looks very much like the GI JOE action figures.

Check out this picture of a GI Joe courtesy of Ebay

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-2-GI-Joe-Real-American-Hero-Army-dolls-action-figures-/190760550012?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item2c6a36fe7c

The torso is similarly muscled but the shoulders on the ebay one are more detailed.

Without knowing the size or actually inspecting a nude soldier boy for a manufacturer marking reference, I can safely assume it's some sort of action figure sold without its (most likely military) uniform.

That should give you an idea for dressing your trooper or war veteran returning home to lead society to the next generation :)

  2. Thanks for your commentary, Les. He will definitely be dressed as a civilian here. I have allowed very few of my action figures to remain in military garb and most have had their weapons confiscated. The guys here serve as male counterparts for females of similar size. This will hold true for the new guy as soon as I find proper casual clothing for him to wear.

Size wise he is about 12 inches or a little under. I measured him against a GI Joe and Joe is taller. So this one is a little challenged in the area of height. Not sure which of my females will enjoy his company. It may have to be one who does not allow height to interfere with companionship.

Thanks again for sharing. I am sure someone out there knows something about ES Toys and/or this guy's original name.

  3. If you search for "es toys" on eBay you will come up with a MIB Army playset that includes a (white) doll. The seller describes the item as "all but impossible to find nowadays" which leads one to conclude that it is not a recent item. If you contact the seller, he may be able to give you more info.

  4. You have my permission to go back and tell the postal worker to 'shut up'. You can even punch her in the arm. Or you can say to her, "I guess I'm helping you keep a job considering the state of the post office. But add a nice smile.

I like the look of this guy. He is quite the hunk. I have no information to impart about him. My knowledge of short guys is non existent. LOL!

    1. Hi Vanessa,

The postal clerk did deserve a swat but I gave her a pass.

Same here, with reference to knowledge of short guys. I do like this one, however.

  5. I agree with two comments: he's cute, and he looks like a G.I. Joe.

Sorry, I do not recognize ES Toys. Have to check on it ;-D

  8. I have a asian doll with that body but other than perhaps being by the same manufacturer I've no clue who your doll's character is. My doll is super shiny too. Does yours make a lot of clicking noises when you move him?

Man, I cant stand it when people get familiar with me the way that worker was with you. It makes me think they are stalkers and I back up a little and eye them suspiciously.

    1. Hi Muff,

I would like to see your Asian guy. I saw the white counterpart on eBay, which is basically the same sculpt as mine. It is interesting that there is little information about this company. I found a past eBay auction (October) with three white GI Joes and an AA ES action figure like mine. It is possible that the auction winner kept the Joes and the Desert Storm-style uniform the AA guy wore and sold him separately.

Like yours, my figure has a clicking sound when his joints are manipulated.

I have another large package to pick up from the PO later this week. I plan to avoid the desk clerk from my visit earlier this week.

  9. I wish I could help you, Debbie, but I don't think I've seen him before. I look forward to seeing him in his new attire, and seeing which lucky female will be paired with him.

    1. I wish you could help, too, Roxanne, but I won't stress over not knowing who this guy is. I thought for sure someone else more versed in action figures would have information on the manufacturer. Thanks to Zendelle, I viewed a current eBay auction with a MIB figure and playset. I contacted the seller for the box date. There was none and the seller could not add any additional information except "...we checked and couldn't find a manufacturer date anywhere on the box. We're guessing though that it was manufactured somewhere between 2002-2007."

I think he could also be from the 1990s.

  10. OK, that clerk was rude! As the wife of a USPS employee I know that the whole office knows who gets the packages in the area but that knowledge should have been kept to herself. Yes they do need to keep their job and you are helping them do that. I think the PO is work on speed and not customer service and are not doing well at either. But that is just between us bloggers!
    ES TOYS
ES TOYS trademark by Ever Sparkle Industrial Co., Ltd. in Kowloon is a Hong Kong company, its business is Battery Operated Toys;Educational Toys - Electronic;Toy Car - Plastic , toys and playthings, namely play action figures; playsets of figures, buildings and animals; dolls; soft toy missiles; toy facsimile and copying machines (the pink Barbie size office set); remote-controlled, non-remote controlled, battery and non-battery powered vehicles and figures; and friction powered vehicles. I guess toys was doing as good as they would have like and it seems that they have moved to ward technology and have become Ever Sparkle Technologies in 1996 and their products consist of software electronics, mechanical, industrial, and packaging, as well as graphic design

    The Action Figure
I have this action figure too. He is Naji in Johnston. http://i-luv-dolls.blogspot.com/2011/09/najis-family.html I purchased him on eBay nude over 12 years ago and he was older toy when I got him. I love his complexion and his eyes… they really draw you in. He is smaller than GI Joe and I guess that is why he is a teen around here. I don’t know what his original outfit was and I have never seen him in the box. I do think he was one of these toys sold from catalogs because much of their other items were. That’s all I got!

    1. Wow, Ms. Leo -- What a wealth of information on ES Toys. I can now properly document this guy on my spreadsheet (who now has been named by me... more on that tomorrow). I knew he was older than the seller on eBay indicated (2002-2007). He looks clearly early 1990s to me. I didn't even think about checking Myla Perkins' books to see if she documented him in her 1990s publications. But you have given me more than enough. I will check out your Naji after I complete my workday. I am sure he is just as handsome.

Rude and intrusive are just two adjectives that I can think of for that woman, who in a couple of former dealings with her was so nice. In one she went above and beyond the call of duty to make a package weigh less so I wouldn't have to pay as much for an international shipment, using a knife to cut off excess cardboard so it would weigh less and meet the 12-inch length specification. I guess that's why she caught me way off guard with that rude comment that left me speechless.

  12. I know it is almost 4 years since you posted your query here, but I too have this same fellow. I purchased him in 2004 or 05 I think, in a 5 pack of militarily dressed action figures at BJ's, a wholesale club similar to Sams Club. All have very nice head sculpts and 22 points of articulation. And are marked 'ES Toys Made in China.
