The Dolls Janet Purchased

Travel Doll Janet, center, finds Curvy Barbie #32 and Petite Barbie #25 on Target's shelves.

My travel doll, Janet, accompanied me and my husband to Target to return an item he had purchased for one of our grandsons that Grandson didn't need.

While there, I scoped out the Bratz clothing section (having remembered Vanessa's post from January 5, 2016) to see if there was an outfit interesting enough to purchase for Janet.

As part of the travel doll event that I coordinated for my doll group, we can buy clothing and other items for Janet.  It is required, however, that we purchase at least one souvenir item that represents the host's city or state. I had already done the latter at the time of the Target visit.  I didn't see any Bratz fashions that interested me (those huge Bratz shoes were a big turnoff .  What would I do with those? Janet certainly can't wear them, I thought.).  Before leaving that section, I noticed Target had some of the curvy Barbies in stock on the opposite aisle.  One of the three African American ones that I placed on my wish list back in January was available.

My husband tried to convince me to buy one of the petite ones (doll 25, Blue Brocade), that Janet is shown with in the first photograph and a different curvy one, a blonde or brunette, but I decided against.  Janet, however, insisted that I buy the wish-listed doll.  It didn't take much for her to convince me to do this, so in the cart curvy girl #32, Dolled Up Denim, went.

At home, Janet was eager for curvy Barbie to be released.  After removing the plastic, the two formed an instant bond.  Unfortunately, their bond must remain temporary because Janet will be leaving at the end of this week to travel to her next destination.

Dolled up Denim and Janet do display well together and could easily pass for mother and daughter.  The curvy dolls' fashion looks better on her, in my opinion, without the mesh top.

As an aside, recently someone asked if Big Beautiful Doll Dasia can wear Curvy Barbie's clothing. The answer is no.  Dasia's figure is fuller as confirmed by the measurements I took of both dolls:

Curvy Barbie (breasts, waist, hips):  5-1/2 x 4-1/2 x 6-1/2 inches
Dasia (breasts, waist, hips):  7-1/2 x 7 x 8 inches.

This photo, courtesy of Onlyalisa, illustrates Dolled up Denim's voluptuous curves, but she is not as curvy as Dasia as shown next.
This nude photo of Dasia shows her more-curvaceous-than-Curvy Barbie's body.

Gifts for Janet
On a different day, while shopping for household cleaning items without the company of Janet or my husband, I browsed Family Dollar's toy aisle looking for things for Janet... seriously, that is what I was doing.  I found these cute ice cream treat-shaped erasers and a mini Barbie doll that will go into Janet's goodie bag.  Their costs were $1 and $3.35, respectively.

The erasers and mini Barbie were part of Janet's Easter basket goodies and will go with the other things I purchased for her to her final destination after her traveling concludes in September and she is sent to a forever home.  The mini Barbie Janet holds in the second photo is mine (yes, I purchased two that day and opened mine to see the exact scale when it is held by Janet.  (Had it not been for Janet, though.)

Earlier this month (can't blame Janet for this one), I was so enthused by CJ Starz Forever's restyling of DC Super Hero Girls Bumblebee that I scooted out to Target and found one in stock.  She came home with me too.  I'll provide a detailed post about my Bumblebee separately since this post is developing a lengthy life of its own.

  1. Janet is quite the little shopper! :) She made an excellent choice with the curvy Barbie. I have her also, but have yet to remove her from her packaging, so it's good to see these photos. I love the mini Barbie doll. That almost makes me want to venture out to Target to see if I can find one. The sweet treats are adorable! And Janet is too cute in her Easter bunny dress with her Easter goodies!

    1. Thank you, Roxanne!

Yes, Janet is a great little shopper and also a great little enabler. I am really going to miss her after she leaves in a couple of days.

I found the Mini Barbie at Family Dollar, but Target might have them in stock as well. I think I vaguely remember seeing them there before I found the two at Family Dollar (one for Janet and one for me).

  2. That is the curvy Barbie I've been looking for. However, seeing her bent arm, I may have to go with one that has a straight arm. I probably should just try to swap out her arms for something articulated. Her arms look normal size. Love that little mini Barbie. Not enough to go looking for her, but she's cute. It will be interesting to see how different Lammily clothes are to the curvy Barbie.

    1. That arm is kind of awkward. Since her arms are slightly larger than the average-sized Barbie, you might be able to heat the bent arm with a blow dryer to straighten it out. Others have done this with other dolls but I haven't personally.

  3. Heh, Janet's going to need her own trunk to store all her things soon! ;)

Interesting to know about Dasia being that much larger than curvy Barbie. I thought that was probably the case, but it's good to know for sure. And I've been eyeing that Petite Barbie in the blue dress - one of these days!

    1. Yes, jSarie, Janet is definitely going to need a case for all her goodies from me and the other 9 hosts. The plan is for everyone to send the things they purchase for her to me when they send her to the next host. At the conclusion of her travels, Janet will be sent back to me and raffled off to one of the participants (my name won't be included in the raffle). Then I will mail Janet and all her goodies to the raffle winner. Pretty cool, right?

I am glad you found the images of Curvy and Dasia helpful. It would have been nice for Dasia to have been able to wear Curvy Barbies' clothing.

  4. There is something awkward and adorable about seeing a doll holding another doll.

    1. Since dolls are 3-D inanimate representations of people and some of us real folks like dolls, I love pairing up some of my dolls with dolls.

  5. Janet is adorable! She helped you to purchase some great items! I was not aware that this curvy girl was released. I will go out to see if I can find her tomorrow. She is one of the ones on my list. The mini Barbie is cute as well. Thanks for sharing where you purchased her. Our dolls like to collect dolls as well.

    1. I hope you are able to find her in your area, GG. I was completely surprised to see her and the others on Target's shelves. I read early on that they were exclusive to ShopMattel.com -- that must have been to get us to order, but I didn't fall for it. Glad I didn't!

  6. Bonjour Debbie!
You have picked the right dolls for Janet 's photoshoot at your place (the little Barbie doll she is keeping and the curvy Barbie). The curvy barbie isn't anyway as curvy as Dacia but she isn't bad at all.
I totally agree with you regarding the fact that she looks way better without the meshed top.
Did you have the issue with her legs being two tones as if she has been wearing boots for a long time? One doll collector had this issue.
By the way, the petite dark skin one is really beautiful. I can see why you husband wanted you to purchase her. I might get her if she becomes available in the UK or in France.
    Keep having fun Debbie!

    1. Bonjour Arlette!

I'm a little sad this morning. I packed Janet up last night for her trip to the next host. I am going to miss my little doll sidekick and guess I'll have to choose another one here to dote on like I have done Janet over the past couple of weeks.

Fortunately, my Curvy doll doesn't have any discoloration issues or other issues that I have detected. Let me know if you want me to get the petite one for you. I know shipping will be astronomical, so it might be best for you to wait and see if she shows up in the UK or France.

    2. I totally understand how you feel about Janet's departure. I am sure you will find another doll to follow you on your adventures.
The dolls are available in the UK (yay!) Thanks for the offer though. I really appreciate it.

    3. I am so glad the dolls are available in the UK, Arlette.

My Curvy Barbie is now my desk companion, but that is usually the case with most new dolls. They hang out on the desk for a while, until I find a proper place of display. I don't think I will be taking her on outings. I did see an outfit with glasses that I plan to buy for her which might eliminate the purchase of the darker skinned curvy doll that wears glasses. (Might.) Her glasses are the only reason I wanted her. Well, I guess her complexion is still enticing but I am not all that crazy about her hair. We'll see.

  7. Wow, Janet that is a great haul! I love how these little dolls can really take on some great personalities. I love that Dolled Up Denim girl..I also got one of her for my collection and she is so beautiful. She looks so much like Red Ruffles, but with the curvy body. Stunning. Loved the post. :)

    1. As they say, Farrah Lily, "you ain't seen nothing yet." Janet picked up a tremendous amount of Texas loot for herself while here. I'll share that later.

Yes, I think Dolled Up Denim favors Red Ruffles too. They could be sisters or mother and daughter easily.
