Last Dark-Skinned Basics

Mattel Stock Photo

The last dark-skinned Barbie Basics doll, Model No. 8 in Collection 003, looks very similar to SIS Chandra.  I like her hair and her pose.  Unfortunately, she is not articulated.

The doll is available now for $19.95 at Barbiecollector.com along with the five others in this collection.   There are also two accessory packs for $14.95 each.  See the entire collection here.

  1. Wow, pretty doll! The outfit looks cool, too.

I just don't get the allure of the Model Muse body - what is the point if you cannot get your doll to move so you can have fun with it? I have 2 of them myself, and I am hoping to Frankendolly them onto more articulated bodies.

  2. I agree with miladyblue! They keep kicking out silkstone too. We have all evolved in the last four years(Fashion Fever) Mattel! Get with the program!

  3. That face, that hair! Ohhhh! I have got to sell some stuff soon. Closet and room clearance time. This one and so many others ....

She also looks like Alvin Ailey Barbie!

    Thanks, DBG, Scoop Queen Extraordinaire!

I'm getting rid of my Model Muse bodies EXCEPT for the Go Red Heart Barbie - she has such a lady's-hands=on-her-hips coolness that I will allow her to keep that admittedly rigid stance.

  4. She is so pretty! Mattel would do this during the holiday season when I am suppose to be shopping for everyone else. Thanks for sharing!

  5. Mildayblue, Ms. Leo, and D7ana - the ModelMuse body is my least favorite. For those who don't mind dolls that just stand there and look pretty, I suppose it works, but I like the option of being hands on with my dolls, so they need to move.

D7ana and Georgia Girl- glad I could share something new. Thanks for that awesome title: Scoop Queen Extraordinaire, D7ana.
    :-)

I'll probably use my final BarbieCollector reward to buy Model 8 and allow her to just stand around and look gorgeous because finding an articulated body to match her skin tone will be almost impossible. I will not sacrifice an articulated Chandra for her.

  6. EEEEK! They're out! They're out! (pause) I'm back. I had to do my happy dance. Just when I thought I would have a month of not acting like a crazy doll woman, this happens. I am so glad there are only six, because somehow I always talk myself into buying more than I need. Gotta go make some furniture to sell so I can have a dolly cushion.

  7. OMGoodness! I went to the site to see them. Did you see the redhead? Is she not gorgeous! And the Asian #5? Stunning! I think the makeup on this line is phenomenal. So I only saw 5 that I had to have, and of course the accessory packs. Maybe they felt they had to do a really good job on the makeup since the dolls were only wearing bathing suits. WILL THIS MADNESS EVER END? I find it interesting that they brought these out at the same time they are introducing the Stardolls. I sure am glad that I am not a Stardoll fan. I would be in really big trouble. Oh good grief! I just remembered that the Prettie Girls are due to hit soon.

  8. You're right, Vanessa. The madness never ends!

  10. I know everybody loves Mbili moldface... but sincerely in my opinion:It´s Enough!
Why it´so dificult create something new??
She is pretty but only for the ones who wants to have more of the same...
I really love if it was possible to have somethnig new from Mattel and you what is even more sad:the abusive use of the goddess mold face becoming vulgar explored in so many different ways...I really don´t like this lost sense of creative hability....well this is sad...
