A Fancy Flowers Redress

I have wanted to redress Fancy Flowers (Fashionista #20), whose name here is Coffey, since her arrival in November 2015. 

Time finally presented itself for me to give Coffey several redresses in these Sparkle Girlz  (SG) fashions.  These were purchased a few weeks ago.  Additionally, she tried on a two other SG fashions from previous purchases.

Without delay, let the modeling begin:

This floral-print sundress is made of a stretch knit material.  I like this on her better than the original dress because of the larger flowers and the A-line fit.

The apple green midriff top with fuchsia spaghetti straps and floral leggings work well with Coffey's ModelMuse-type body. 

Yellow is a good color for her, which is proven by this dress with yellow bodice and tiered skirt.

The fourth, most recent SG fashion purchase, a white lacy top and orange mini skirt, is paired with orange SIS Rocawear shoes.

Coffey modeled two more SG fashions that were purchased several months ago:

Coffey chose a pair of gray SG shoes and faux diamond stud earrings to wear with this coral dress.

Coffey wears denim leggings (shown above and in the next photo) with a lacy peach top with ruffled bottom.  Gray shoes and the faux diamond earrings complete the look.  

A background change to a lighter color was used for the above photo of Coffey in the above-described fashion.

In these final two photos, Coffey is joined by Dynamite Girls Reese and So In Style Grace.  Grace also wears a SG fashion from last year's line.

I think Coffey looks great in all the SG fashions she tried.  She has officially retired her original dress.  Initially I had planned for her to continue wearing the green top and floral leggings, but "she" chose the peach top and denim leggings to wear instead.

Janay Chose #1 Reese

The reader is referred to yesterday's post where I questioned which body would be the best choice for the separately purchased Janay head, the connector of which was throwing me for a loop (no pun intended).

Thanks to Paulette of Limbe Doll's explanation of how she handles such connectors, Janay and I decided to allow IT's Dynamite Girl Reese #1 to be the body donor.

I gingerly removed Reese's head, not knowing what to expect as far as knob or connector, and was pleased to see the rotational flat knob attached to her body.  I initially tried to attach Janay's head, but the vinyl parts were too firm to press the head onto the body.  I softened the neck opening of Janay's head by inserting that area only into a shallow bowl of boiled water.  I protected my already-injured right hand from the heat by wearing a potholder as I held the lower portion of the head into the steaming water for approximately 30 seconds.

Initially I was going to free Janay's Afro puffs, but decided to leave them in place because they work well with her new fashion.  But... she needed earrings.  So I fashioned some for her using a pair on hand that I purchased at a 99 cents jewelry store.

Keeping the hooks of the earrings in place, I cut off the first disks of each.  Next, I straightened the hooks and created a 45-degree angle.  I used a pushpin to pierce Janay's earlobes as illustrated below.

The body-head complexion match is not 100%, but I have always loved Reese's 70's inspired brown sueded hot-pants, slate blue halter top, and orange tweed coat. Unfortunately, I could never fully bond with Reese's head sculpt. So now everything has worked out well!

Thanks again Paulette!  Janay thanks you, too.  I am uncertain how Reese is feeling, but she'll get over the trauma.

In the City Mighty Real Reese

I plan to discard it, but isn't Reese's box lovely?

Preordered on Black Friday, 2011 with a 20% discount, Mighty Real Reese arrived this past Monday. Unlike my original Reese, this one had no desire to remain in the box for 15 months after she arrived from Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Toot toot, beep beep. She may look like a bad girl but she's all good. From her her cute short-alls with fitted pink blazer, flower choker, purple metallic bag and gold peep toe platform heels, Reese is keeping it mighty real in this look.

Like Vintage Reese from 2010, the head sculpt for Mighty Real Reese is more realistic than the doll released in 2009.

Reese's photo shoot includes comparison images with Vintage Reese and the 2009-released doll.

Immediately freed from the box, Reese strikes a beautiful pose.

Her hair is not as curly as I imagined.  She has two tiny, joined braids at the top of her head.

Vintage Reese's lip and eye colors are lighter than Mighty Real's.  The absence of bangs gives the newest Reese a fresh look.

I like the new sculpt used for Mighty Real and Vintage Reese much better than the original doll's sculpt.  The MJ nose on the first doll is what bothers me the most.

Reese Speaks

I am so glad Debbie read Jorge's post and was inspired to finally remove me from my box today. Off and on for the 15 months I've been here, she's been saying she was going to free me. Oh yeah, I've had a photo shoot and she's shared pictures of me on her blog, but that doesn't even come close to being totally free.   Cardboard and plastic ties are so confining!

After reading Jorge's post and seeing what he has done with his lovely doll (my twin), I am now free, allowed to mingle with several of the other ladies.  With enough mingling and utilizing my social butterfly skills, I might even find a male companion.  I am so looking forward to that!

Thank you Jorge for inspiring Debbie to set me free... finally!

Reese listens intently as last year's Reese and Barbie share some of the doll room secrets. 

Reese has outted me. After viewing Jorge's wonderful pictures yesterday, I lifted the top of my doll's box and mentally said, "I'm going to remove this doll from the box." I even posted a comment on Jorge's blog about my intention.  After 15 months, Reese is now free, and mingling is an understatement  to describe what she's been doing in the doll room.  She acts as though she's known the females and males for years.  So far, everyone loves her.  A couple have coveted her fashion, but she's not giving it up.  Ultimately, I may use her body for someone else because her unrealistic-looking head sculpt, particularly her barely there nose, is one of the reasons I kept her in the box.  I prefer playscale dolls that look like real people.  Reese doesn't capture the look I desire, but like a few of the others  here, I love her fashion!

Isn't High Brow Adéle gorgeous?  She will probably be my last Adéle now that Integrity has changed the doll's head sculpt, which transformed her into a totally different doll.

First Reese, One Sharp Cookie; Monsieur Z, Not So Much

Dynamite Girls Wave 2 Reese arrived yesterday, some two years after being introduced as the first dark-skinned Dynamite Girl (box date 2008).  I love her real tweed coat and the brown faux suede hot pants underneath!  The chocolate brown tights and brown knee-length boots give her the "total" look.  A sucker for a sale, I purchased Reese last week for 50% off after hearing about IT Direct's sale.   

At 56% below retail, Monsieur Z Jungle Fever hopped into the online cart, too (because of her afro hairstyle and the reduced price).

I'm not as crazy about her fashion and  too bad for me that I overlooked her cartoonish eyes (sorry Jason). I think repainting might be in order for this one.

Until then, she'll wear her sunglasses.

She's Come Undone

Boogie Beach Reese of the Dynamite Girls by Integrity, a Jason Wu and team design, arrived on Monday.  I removed her from her box this afternoon and thoroughly examined her.  On attempt to test the range of motion of her left knee joint, her lower leg from below the knee down fell off!  Yikes!  Repair will require a specialist because the ball portion separated in half and the remaining upper half is seated unevenly in the socket.  Since I am untrained in limb repair and the ball appears to have been defective from the factory, I emailed the merchant.  I am awaiting their answer on the steps to take to return the doll for a replacement at their expense and/or a full refund.

Reese makes the third doll in the past few weeks to arrive with issues.  Maybe I need to slow my doll buying "role" for a while.

PS  After several hours of waiting to hear from the merchant, I decided to contact Integrity since they offer a one-year limited warranty on this doll.  I sent the following note and must wait 3-5 days to hear from their "Patient Care" department:

"I purchased from one of your authorized merchants and received Dynamite Girls Boogie Beach Reese. The doll's left leg fell off due to a defective ball and joint mechanism, which split in half. One half of the ball is in the upper leg. The other half is in the lower leg. The two parts cannot be put back together because the upper half appears to have been inserted incorrectly at the factory."

Their website states they will not provide return postage and I have to provide clear JPEG photos of the damage for them to determine if repair or replacement is necessary.  If the doll requires replacement (and she does), I will have to DESTROY it and provide pictures as proof that it has been destroyed. 

I hope this story has a happy ending.
