Beautifully wrapped birthday gifts from my friend, Debra R.

I received a box of beautifully wrapped birthday gifts from my long-time doll-friend, Debra R. We have known each other for nearly 30 years. Among other things hand-picked specifically for me were four dolls and a doll fashion.

The unwrapped doll gifts are shown in this photo and described below.

A brown-complexioned 15-inch kidskin doll by Beate Schulte

The leather head is over a molded face.

Very little information is available online about the German artist, Beate Schult, except for a sprinkling of dolls made during the mid-to-late 1980s. A doll identical to mine was offered in a past Theriault's auction and is said to be from 1985. However, my doll's head marks are BS / 88. This indicates mine was released in 1988. Theriault's description is copied below:

Of brown tinted soft leather, the face is mounted on head form and has painted brown eyes, closed mouth and facial features, with black fleecy and tightly-curled black yarn hair, two-tone tan/brown stitched body with suede side torso, wearing original orange suede vest and hand-painted muslin pants. With original paper label from Beate Schult and marked "BS85" on back of head. Excellent condition. The doll was made by German artist Beate Schult in 1985 from a series of international dolls, a black child, an Asian boy, and a white-complexioned child, and is very rare as well as artfully created.

L.U.V. Londynn by Far Out Toys

A close-up of Londynn's face reminds me of Madame Alexander's Paris Williams. 

L.U.V., an acronym for limitless, unique, and vibrant, is the theme of a line of four 10-inch vinyl fashion dolls that includes the fashionably dressed Londynn. The back of the box indicates that "Londynn is adventurous and outgoing. She loves to show off her unique and individual style. Always willing to push her limits to experience new things." Londynn's elbows and wrists are articulated. I do not know if the knees and ankles are articulated. Follow the link to the Walmart buy page for out-of-the-box photos.

This is a fashion doll clone that looks like My Scene Jai.

The My Scene Jai clone has a thin, multi-articulated body. The Afro-textured hair is tightly coiled and closely rooted. She wears a cute two-piece fashion. 

Ruby Red Fashion Friends "Sprinkles on Top" fashion is pictured above.

This adorable fashion designed to fit Ruby Red Fashion Friends' 14-inch dolls will be perfect for my most recent Ruby Red Toys acquisition, Voice of the Future Jada or By the Sea Maya. I am leaning toward redressing Maya because I like Jada's outfit. Included in the box is a denim jacket that has a multicolored yarn pom-pom attached to a front pocket, a sleeveless ice-cream-cone-print purple dress, a pair of white socks, and a pair of white shoes that have matching pom-poms on the vamps.

Jolie James Op Art Opening from the Poppy Parker Collection by Integrity Toys

My fourth and most impressive doll gift this year is Integrity Toys' Jolie James Op Art Opening from the Poppy Parker collection of 12-inch multi-articulated, exquisitely crafted high-end fashion dolls. This doll and her ensemble are stunning! A close-up of her face and her packaged accessories are captured in the final photos. 

I love this sculpt!

Most of the accessories are stored in a slide-out compartment at the top of the doll's box.

Jolie's backstory from the Fashion Doll Chronicles website reads, Young actress Jolie James is delighted to join her friend Poppy Parker for this moment in art and fashion history in London, England! Ready to be the central attraction of the show, Ms. James is dressed to create an optical illusion of her own... This girl is truly trippy!

The accessories, most shown here, include:

New Playscale Dolls, Cheap Thrills

W Superstars Naomi

I am not into wrestling, but I am into playscale dolls.  When  I saw W Superstars Naomi on Amazon for $9.99, I ordered.  The doll had been $19.99.

The 12-inch multi-articulated doll represents professional wrestler and dancer, Trinity LaShawn Fatu, who is signed to World Wrestling Entertrainment, Inc. and performs under the name, Naomi.

The doll has black rooted hair with green hair layered underneath.  Her brown eyes are painted.  She has a smiling mouth with the appearance of teeth.

Naomi comes dressed in a multicolored jumpsuit that replicates one worn by the professional wrestler.  She wears black boots.

There is an additional outfit consisting of a light blue sleeveless dress that has a full skirt and a pair of tan high-heel ankle boots.

The graphics on the back of the box show Naomi wearing both fashions.  In this image, the doll looks more like Jennifer Hudson, especially the smile.

These are Barbie clones found on Aliexpress and Amazon; the one on the far right is not the doll I ordered*.

Even cheaper playscale thrills were achieved with these three dolls.  Two were found on Aliexpress and the other was found on Amazon.

The Amazon seller sent the incorrect doll (the doll on the far right).  This doll has the same face as one of the Aliexpress dolls (the doll in the middle).  Their complexions differ slightly and their hairstyles are completely different.   The middle doll is not articulated underneath the breasts.  The dolls on the far left and far right are articulated under the breast area.  All have the usual five points of articulation.  Additional articulation is at the elbows, wrists, and knees.  The ankles are not articulated.  The dolls were all under $6 including shipping.

The downside to these dolls is that the sellers are in China.  They use small packets (thin-plastic envelope) shipping without bubble wrap.  The chances of getting a damaged doll are high.  If the doll isn't broken, there may be scratches on the vinyl.   I don't recommend ordering from Aliexpress or from any seller who ships dolls that are not protected from potential damage, but if you just need a cheap doll thrill and cannot find a doll in the states, it's worth the risk.

As can be seen in the photo of the three dolls above and in the next photo, the middle doll's complexion is not as tan as the doll's on the right.  The doll with the deepest complexion appears to be a My Scene Jai clone.

Dressed and posed

I have redressed the Jai clone and dressed the other two.  The middle doll and the doll on the far right are dressed in Sparkle Girlz fashions.  The Jai clone wears a dress made for Barbie/Integrity Toys fashion dolls.  The shoes from left-to-right are by Mattel, an unknown China maker, and Mattel.

Not the doll I ordered, this curly redhead has the same head sculpt as the doll above and the doll seen here.

*A doll with this head sculpt with auburn hair and this complexion is what I was supposed to receive from the Amazon seller, who sent the tan-skinned curly redhead instead.  While writing this post, I checked Aliexpress (just to find a picture of the above doll).  This is the picture I found and the doll I ordered after finding the picture. (I had no plans to order, but I successfully enabled myself).  Here's hoping that the seller sends the correct doll and that it is not damaged upon its small packets arrival, which can take up to a month to arrive from China.
