Naturalistas Crown Collection Paige

Naturalistas Paige

After publishing two Natualistas doll installations in the Virtual Black Doll Museum (for a total of three dolls) and later viewing an Instagram post about Naturalistas Paige, I added Paige to my Naturalistas collection. Her auburn, 3C textured hair also influenced the purchase. Paige is from the third wave of Naturalistas, which have extra articulation at the elbows, wrists, and knees.

Paige's auburn hair has a slight wavy curl pattern; it extends to her upper thighs.

She has brown-painted eyes and a closed mouth with nude lip color.

Paige wears an N-logoed, pink spandex top and matching pants; plastic N-logo'd  silver circular earrings, and a silver bangle bracelet. Her pink high-top sneakers are attached to the cellophane lining.

An image of Paige, her bio, motto, descriptions of her hairstyle and hair type, and images of the other dolls in Wave 3 (the Crown Collection), are featured on the back of the box.

Bio: Paige is an Oakland native with a line of natural hair care products, Naturalistas® "ICONIC" Hair System. Paige uses natural ingredients to produce products that support natural hair nurturing and health.

Motto: "Like A Flower, Natural Hair Needs Love and Nutrients To Grow!"

Hairstyle: Wash n' Go Ponytail with Tendrils

Hair Type: 3C

The other dolls in this collection are Kelsey, Liya, Dayna, and Whitney. Dayna and Whitney's VBDM installation is published here. Greg, from the Fade Collection, is the museum's other Naturalistas installation

Designed to celebrate children with coily, curly, loc'd, and naturally textured hair, Naturalistas were created by the founder of Purpose Toys, LLC, DeeDee Wright-Ward, whose image and bio are also on the back of Paige's box (but not captured in the image above).

@Mynaturalistas Commented

I posted the picture above on Instagram with the caption: Latinistas Liv and Naturalistas Paige do not share the same head sculpt.

@mynaturalistas made the following comment:

Yay! We were waiting for y’all to notice. ๐Ÿฅฐ FUN FACT: NATURALISTAS face sculpts are comprised of our founder DeeDee (and IRL Peety’s) facial features…particularly their cheekbones, jawlines eyes and little button noses. For LATINISTAS, DeeDee not only assembled a multicultural team of Latino talent through the founding of @purposetoyslatin , she commissioned a Latina toy designer to sculpt culturally nuanced faces for Las Amigas. ๐Ÿ’Ÿ …a sculpt to reflect aspects of Euro-Indigenous facial features, and one to reflect aspects of Afro-Latina facial features.

Because, at @purposetoys , we understand accuracy in CULTURALLY diverse products start with the teams who contribute to their design.

What this means is our CULTURAL characters are built with the same loving hands from the communities each character represents. Soo you’ll never see a line of Purpose Dolls with the exact same faces features, labeled as different ethnicities. Ever.

We love and have enough respect for true CULTURAL representation, to ever speak over, short-change or trivialize the experiences of CULTURAL communities, by offering ill-conceived collections for headlines. We truly care about the people and the communities we CELEBRATE .๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ☺️

My reply to the comment can be read on Instagram. :-)

Latinistas LIV

Latinistas Liv

Latinistas Liv arrived Monday, August 21, 2023. I ordered this doll from Target's website the day before it arrived. The super-fast receipt for this order was impressive.

Liv is one of four dolls in the Latinistas line that I wrote about here the day after the dolls and fashion packs were available on Amazon to preorder. By the time I published that post, the dolls were shown as unavailable. I had been waiting for the dolls to return to Amazon, but when they did, the price had more than doubled. So I waited and now they are all available at Target stores and on their online site for $12.99. I ordered some other items, so shipping was free. (The Latinistass are now available on Amazon again. Find Liv's buy page below.)

Of the four Latinistas dolls, Liv has the deepest complexion and was the one that called my name.

As indicated on the lower front of the box, Latinistas [are] Una Celebraciรณn de la Cultura Latina - "A celebration of Latina Culture."

Liv's bio and all four dolls in the Latinistas line are featured on the back of the box.

Liv's bio on the back of the box reads:

I'm Liv
From sunny Southern California, Liv (best friend to Lola) is a talented aspiring singer, and top music student at a prestigious performing arts school.

Known for her edgy style and big heart, when Liv isn't studying (or practicing with her band) she enjoys vocal lessons from her Abuelita, who is a retired legendary singer of guarachas.

Liv enjoys teaching traditional guarachas to the children of her community and believes music and family are the [key] to a happy life.

Motto: "La Musica Viene por Dentro" - "Music Comes From Within."

Liv has beautiful long jet-black rooted, wavy hair and brown-painted eyes. Her full lips are painted dark red. She wears a green sleeveless dress that is trimmed in bright blue. Latinistas is written across the front and the Latinistas logo (a capital L and a heart) is imprinted on the dress. Liv wears gray heart-shaped stud earrings, a faux double-stranded black beaded necklace, and a black watch.

Liv's platform-soled knee-high black vinyl boots are attached to the box liner.

Latinistas Liv and Naturalistas Paige for comparison

While the Latinistas' head sculpts appear to be the same as the sculpt used for Naturalistas by Purpose Toys, LLC., they are different. Liv's lips are fuller and her jawbone is wider than Paige's as illustrated in the comparison photos above and below.

Liv and Paige do not share the same head sculpt.

Manufactured by Purpose Toys Latin, which is a division of Purpose Toys, LLC., the company's mission is "to center and celebrate communities of culture while reminding children to love who they are and always remember La Cultura Viene del Corazรณn - 'Culture Comes From the Heart.'"

Littlelistas

Screenshot photo from The Internet

Announced on the July 3rd anniversary of the California signing of the Crown Act*, Littlelistas is a forthcoming doll line by Purpose Toys. Designed by DeeDee Wright-Ward, who also designed the Naturalistas doll line, Littlelistas will encourage smaller children to embrace their natural hair because it is beautiful, too.

*"Crown Day is a U.S. holiday that celebrates the first signing of the C.R.O.W.N. Act into legislation in California, on July 3, 2019. The Crown Act is legislation aimed to outlaw Natural Hair discrimination in the workplace and in schools." (aNb.com) Read more about The Crown Act and National Crown Day here.

Latinistas by Purpose Toys

Latinistas by Purpose Toys LATIN

These 11-1/2-inch fashion dolls received their social media introduction a couple of weeks ago. Representing Latinas, the dolls by Purpose Toys LATIN are appropriately named Latinistas. Their arrival online and in stores is scheduled for August 2023 on Amazon, Walmart, and Target.

The dolls appear to use the same or a very similar head sculpt as the Naturalistas by Purpose Toys, some of which can be seen here.

Read a BeLatina article about the dolls here.

The dolls and fashion packs are available on Amazon

Naturalistas Paige

Naturalistas Paige is an 11-1/2-inch fashion doll with 3C hair.

Paige joins Liya and Dayna.

They use the same facial sculpt. Paige and Dayna have a medium complexion. Liya's complexion is the deepest.

Paige was preordered in April 2022 along with Liya and Dayna, also by Purpose Toys. Her arrival took a bit longer.

The back of the box describes Paige as illustrated in the next image.

Paige is a chemist who has designed a line of black haircare products that promote hair health.

Paige is seen in a close-up photograph. Her 3C-textured hair is styled in a side ponytail.

Like the other Naturalistas shown in this post, Paige has brown painted eyes, a nonarticulated body, and her shimmery dress has Naturalistas in raised letters across the chest. Paige's silver long-sleeved mini dress is accented by silver hoop earrings.

A pink clutch and...

...a pair of pink high-heel, open-toe shoes are included.

Paige cannot share shoes with Barbie; her feet are much larger.

Paige and the other Naturalistas were designed by DeeDee Wright-Ward whose headshot and bio are on the back of the dolls' boxes.

DeeDee Wright-Ward, the creator of the Naturalistas, is pictured on the back of the box.

The bio reads:

DeeDee Wright-Ward is an Entrepreneur, Business Development Executive, Founder of Purpose Toys and Creator of Naturalistas. Naturalistas is a sleek line of contemporary natural hair fashion dolls, created to uplift and celebrate children with coily, curly and natural textured hair.

Purpose Toys partners with entrepreneurs, providing the resources necessary to succeed. Our mission is to produce "Product with a Purpose", which we hope to deliver with Naturalistas, who encourage every coily and curly hair kid to "Be Proud of Your Crown".

If I ever debox them, these three Naturalistas will display well together.

At this time, I have decided against purchasing Grace (the influencer). I do plan to buy one of the Pixie Puff Naturalistas (probably Penny). Penny will allow me to round off the collection with a light-skinned Naturalistas doll.

Naturalistas Dayna

Naturalistas Dayna by Purpose Toys is an 11-1/2 inch vinyl doll with a medium brown complexion.

My beautiful Naturalistas curly-haired Dayna just arrived from Target and she is back in stock on Amazon. https://amzn.to/3P4m4Gl #ad

Her hair is different from the prototype doll's (seen in the next photo), but if I fluff it out (finger comb it) after box removal, it can look like the prototype doll's hair.

When I saw real-life pictures of Dayna shared by other collectors, I didn't know which Naturalista she was because her hairstyle is so much different from the prototype.

Close-up of Dayna's lovely face.

Dayna has a medium brown complexion and dark brown rooted curly hair, described as 3C. She uses the same head sculpt as the other Naturalistas and is not articulated beyond the five usual points (head, upper arms, and upper legs).

Dayna, like Liya, has brown painted eyes and a closed mouth with dark lip color. She has appropriately full facial features and a quite pretty face.

She wears a full-length form-fitting gold shimmery sleeveless gown, clear stud earrings, and holds a gold "Naturalistas" personalized clutch. "Naturalistas" is also printed across the chest area of the dress, which has cutouts on the sides. Her tan high-heel open-toe shoes are attached to the box liner. Naturalistas have huge feet. They will not be able to share shoes with Barbie.

Additional Pictures:

The length of Dayna's hair is illustrated in this photo and the next.

The Naturalistas brand across the chest of the dress, Dayna's clutch, and shoes are illustrated in this photo.

Dayna's headshot and bio are on the back of the box.

Dayna's Bio from the back of the box reads:
I'm Dayna
Dayna is an LA native and owner of "Naturalistas Luxury Hair Salon". With a degree in business (and training from a top beauty school), Dayna is a leading Celebrity Natural Hair Stylist. A business woman and celebrity favorite, Dayna's much admired career has earned her the nickname "The Coil Whisperer."

Dayna's motto: "Be Proud of Your Crown"

Her hairstyle is defined as wash n' go. Her hair type is 3C.

The five proposed dolls in the Naturalistas line are illustrated on the back of the box. I have not seen Grace for sale anywhere.

DeeDee Wright-Ward, the creator of the Naturalistas, is pictured on the back of the box.

A headshot of the founder of Naturalistas, DeeDee Wright-Ward, and her bio are also included on the back of Liya's box.

Dayna and Liya

Dayna and Liya are seen in a headshot comparison where their complexion difference is also illustrated.  Read Liya's review here.

Just Play Naturalistas Liya

Naturalistas Liya by Purpose Toys is an 11-1/2-inch fashion doll with natural 4C-textured hair.

I ordered this doll and another Just Play Naturalistas doll in April of 2022. The order for the other doll is not scheduled to arrive until September 2022. Amazon buy links for this doll and one other one that I ordered along with two others that are currently on their website are included at the end of this post (feel free to jump there and order, if they are still available, or browse and return here to read my review of Liya.)

Her hair is huge and gorgeous!

Liya, pronounced Leah, was chosen because of her deep-brown complexion and her big 4C natural-textured hair. She has hair for days! Liya is not articulated, but that is not always a requirement for me. The price of only $12.99 with free Amazon Prime shipping was also the reason I ordered.

In addition to her 4C huge Afro, Liya has brown painted eyes and a closed mouth with dark lip color. She has appropriately full facial features and a quite pretty face.

The next two profile photos illustrate how much hair Liya has.

She wears a light blue shimmery sleeveless short dress.

"Naturalistas" in raised letters is printed across the chest area of Liya's dress.

A light blue Naturalistas-logo'd clutch is her accessory in addition to clear stud earrings.

This is a better view of the clutch.

One of Liya's earrings is visible in this second headshot photo.

A pair of brown high-heel open-toe shoes are attached to the box liner.

Liya's high-arched feet are huge.

She can probably wear some Barbie fashions, but she will not be able to wear Barbie shoes. Her feet appear as large as Color Infusion Janay's.  (Janay's foot is the one on the far right at this link.) As you can see from my pictures, I have not deboxed Liya yet. Will I? I'd like to, but not at this time. I want to bask in the glory of a doll line made by a female African American entrepreneur that I can support as well as love the product and packaging.

Back-of-the-box image

Liya and the other dolls in the collection are featured and named on the back of the box below Liya's intro which reads:

I'm Liya
Liya is a Natural Hair model, originally from Atlanta. As a second-year engineering student, Liya's life forever changed when she met a delightful talent scout from a popular model agency. An international model known for her tight (beautiful coiled hair), Liya spends her time promoting appreciation for Natural "4 textured" hair in schools (and in the workplace). [Alright now, Liya!]

Liya's motto: "4 textured hair is absolutely beautiful and so are you."

Her hairstyle is described as stretched, and the hair type is 4C.

DeeDee Wright-Ward, the creator of the Naturalistas, is pictured on the back of the box.

A headshot of the founder of Naturalistas, DeeDee Wright-Ward, and her bio are also included on the back of Liya's box.

I really like her!

Liya is a welcome addition to my non-Barbie fashion doll collection. Her lovely head sculpt and super-big hair are eye-catching and will make her stand out in any doll collection or display.

Paige is the other doll I ordered, scheduled to arrive in September.

Update:
Some of the dolls, a styling head, and fashion packs are on the Target website. Target's online merch is available according to zip code. I ordered Dayna from Target after this post was first published. She is scheduled to arrive on August 6th. I will photograph and share Dayna’s pictures in a separate blog post. Check your local Target for these dolls as well as Amazon using the links I've provided.
