Fashion Doll Tees by Nise's Designs

A fashion doll wears a graphic off-shoulder top by Nise's Designs

As a December 2019 gift, I received my first graphic, off-shoulder blouse from Nise's Designs. It is made of flannel, and I made a no-sew felt skirt for the doll chosen to wear it.

Last year I ordered more doll T-shirts from Nise's Designs, including Black Santa tees for gifts.

These two graphic T-shirts by Nise's Designs arrived recently.

My last two tees, shown above, prompted this post. Each T-shirt was separately packaged in a resealable bag.

Nise's Designs contact sticker was on each resealable bag.

The back of each bag included Nise's contact information sticker, which indicates she also creates custom designs.

Paired with MiniBrands silver sneakers, Barbie Looks Model #2 (Elle #1) modeled one of the shirts.

Barbie Looks Model 14 (Elle #2) modeled the second T-shirt. She also wears a pair of MiniBrands sneakers and carries a dark pink MiniBrands shoulder bag.

The MiniBrands shoulder bag is shaped like a boombox and has several mock compartments.

Next, I gathered all dolls (except the Shani-faced doll) that wear a Nise's Design graphic tops for a group photo. 

They wear them well.

Barbie Style 248 and the Clothing

Barbie Style 248 uses a new, currently unnamed head sculpt.

I included Barbie Style #248 with my Angel Reese order in July. As usual, I photographed the doll both in and out of the package. 

The doll was photographed inside the package.

Next, I recorded the doll's full description on my Excel Doll Inventory 2026 spreadsheet. The description column reads as follows:

11-1/2 inch Barbie, new head sculpt, has a long black ponytail with crimped ends, painted-on baby hair, a smiling mouth with painted teeth, dark lip color; wears a two-piece blue-and-white floral-print shorts outfit with gray high-top sneakers, and a white choker. Now Redressed.

Before discarding the package, I took a photo of the back, where 248 appears on the 2nd row, the 2nd doll from the left.

The Unboxed Photos

This pretty doll posed for a close-up and three full-length photos.

The original two-piece blue-and-white print shorts set suits her petite figure and youthful look, but because of the stiffened fabric, I opted to redress her in more stylish clothing made of better material, as illustrated next. 

A white tie-front blouse with 3/4 length sleeves is paired with a pair of plaid slacks. She wears her original necklace and gray sneakers. I pierced her ears and added white stud earrings.

I took another close-up after redressing her. (She reminds me of the actress Lovie Simone).

She wears a pair of aviator shades with her new clothes.

I asked ChatGPT about the materials used for most play-line Barbie clothes and why these stiffened synthetic materials are used. 

Question/Prompt: Why do recently released play-line Barbie clothes feel like stiffened paper or plastic?

Answer: The clothes for new play-line Barbies feel that way because Mattel heavily uses printed polyester with heat-sealed edges and plastic laminates to maximize production speed and lower costs.

Why New Play-Line Clothes Feel Like Plastic

• No Real Hems: Modern play-line clothes rarely have sewn hems. Instead, the edges are melted with heat (heat-sealed) to prevent fraying, which turns the fabric edge into hard plastic.
• Printed Plastic Graphics: Instead of sewing different fabrics together, patterns like pockets, buttons, and glitter are printed directly onto a stiff, paper-thin polyester sheet using vinyl ink.
• No Woven Threads: Many budget items use non-woven synthetics. These materials are bonded by heat or chemicals rather than woven from thread, giving them a stiff, paper-like texture. [1]
• Velcro Compatibility: Stiff, densely packed synthetic fibers make it easier to attach aggressive Velcro fasteners without snagging the rest of the outfit.

How to Soften Them up

• Warm Water Wash: Soaking the clothes in warm water with a drop of liquid fabric softener can break down the factory stiffening agents.
• Conditioner Soak: Rubbing a tiny bit of cheap hair conditioner into the fabric and rinsing it can relax the stiff synthetic fibers.
• Air Dry Only: Always air dry Barbie clothes, as heat from a dryer or iron will permanently melt and warp the plastic materials. [2]

This is good information, but I'll probably continue to redress dolls that wear stiffened, super-synthetic fashions instead of softening the clothes. With the help of AI, I placed Barbie Style 248 (maybe I'll name her Lovie) outside an upscale shopping boutique. I added a bracelet to match her necklace, a shoulder bag, and a shopping bag as illustrated in the last image.

Lovie looks very chic in this photograph.

55th Anniversary Christie's Fashion

Waiting to be dressed, an auburn-haired ponytail Barbie clone arrived nude in February 2026.

In 2025, I  began purchasing #1 Barbie-ish clones from China. The last one arrived in February 2026. Sold nude, this auburn-haired ponytail doll is a duplicate of another one that I dressed in the reproduction Barbie Roman Holiday fashion. I had planned to do the same with this doll by dressing her in a fashion that I received as a birthday gift in 2018. That plan changed after my duplicate 55th Anniversary Christie's unboxing. 

Barbie Clone Gets Dressed in 55th Anniversary Christie's Ensemble

The orange wet-look dress fits her well. Her legs are thinner than 55th Anniversary Christie's, which leaves leg room in the boot legs, but they fit well enough.

She wears Christie's "C" letter necklace. In her case, the "C" stands for clone. I added different gold drop earrings because Christie's earrings are glued on.

The floor-length cover-up and gold lamé belt complete this look, and Miss Clone struck a pose.

She assumed another solo pose.

Miss Clone and Christie, who now wears Barbie Basics Model 03's black halter dress and black knee-high boots, posed for this final photo.

They both wear their new clothes well. 

I used AI to deepen Christie's lip color, which I will eventually paint in a similar way.

Barbie You Create Neutral Kit Redressing Part 2

Neutral palette fashions and accessories

In keeping with my desire to build a neutral palette of fashions and accessories for my Barbie You Create Kit dolls, I ordered two pairs of earrings, a dark beige two-piece fashion, what appeared to be beige high-heeled shoes, and a pair of tan boots.

Elle, from Kit 2, models a new pair of pink high-heeled shoes.

Before this redressing session began, I tried the high-heeled shoes (which are actually light pink) on Elle, who was still wearing the blush, ruffle-collared jumpsuit described in my previous redressing post. The shoes are a perfect color match.

Pazette from Kit 2 modeled the other new items.

The dark beige two-piece fashion fits Pazette's body well.
She wears it with a pair of champagne-colored high-heeled shoes, a nice gift from the seller.

Pazette paired a beige organza ribbon sheath with this fit. She also wears new heart-shaped dangle earrings.

Mixing and matching from both kits

Pazette removed the new skirt and tried on the wrap skirt from Kit 2, and accessorized with the "B" logo'd necklace and white platform sandals from Kit 1. The wrap skirt with the crop top makes her look short-waisted. 

A bottom and shoe change, and more accessories were next.

In the above photo, still wearing the new crop top, Pazette models the color block midi skirt from Kit 2 with the new tan boots. She holds a pair of white sunglasses from Kit 2, and from Kit 1, she wears the gold-tone headband as a space-age-looking eye cover.

The new skirt is paired with pieces from Kits 1 and 2.

After removing the new crop top and still wearing the new tan boots, Pazette modeled the new skirt with the long-sleeved brown-and-tan crop top from Kit 2, and the sunglasses on top of her head are from Kit 001, but looks can be deceiving.

To avoid difficulty removing the new boots, I angled Pazette's feet downward before placing the feet in, leaving the heels outside of the new boots, as illustrated.

The final mix-and-match look is shown here.

For the last look with the new two-piece outfit and accessories, Pazette paired the new skirt with the camel-colored ankle-strap shoes and the white peasant top, both from Kit 2.

Elle models another gift from the seller.

In addition to the champagne heels that the seller tucked inside the package with the dark beige fashion, the seller sent a two-piece blue-and-white fashion as another thank-you gift. Elle modeled it with the white drop earrings from Kit 2 and a pair of Roman-style white sandals that were already here.

I am very pleased with this purchase and gave the Aliexpress seller positive feedback.

P.S. I Ordered Two More

Ponytail Barbie clones are seen in an online picture. One has auburn hair; the other has black hair.

In my post about my second #1 Barbie clone, I wrote, "If it weren't a shame, I'd purchase several of these clones and redress them in vintage or reproduced vintage Barbie fashions." Well, before that post was published, I ordered two more, but these are ponytail Barbie clones. The first two are bubble cuts.

35th Anniversary Barbie Keepsake fashions and 1960s Wendy by Uneeda, a gift received in 2018

After I placed the order, I planned to dress the newest clones in the reproduction Barbie fashions included in the gift set shown above. (The Wendy doll replaces the repro Barbie that was originally sold with the gift set.)

The Easter Parade fashion was originally released in 1959. The reproduced version has a box date of 1993, but was probably released to the market in 1994.

Also, originally released in 1959, Roman Holiday is a reproduction of Barbie's original travel ensemble.

Most of the accessories for each fashion were attached to the box liner, while some were in a plastic bag. 

The extra accessories included two pairs of white gloves, which are too small for the clones' larger hands; a comb, a handkerchief, an eyeglass case that held a pair of white cat eyeglasses, a third pair of black high-heels, a gold compact, and a 35th Anniversary Barbie Special Edition Booklet.*

Each ponytail clone arrived in a bubble-wrapped doll box that was inside a thin plastic mailer. One box panel reads LOOKS. The other side reads MODEL. A complimentary pair of sunglasses and doll care instructions were included with the clones.

Easter Parade

I redressed the black-haired doll in the Easter Parade fashion as illustrated below:

She wears the multicolored apple-print dress, pearl earrings, a graduated pearl necklace, black high-heeled shoes, and holds a black patent-leather clutch.

White sunglasses and a navy blue half hat are added in this photo.

The navy-blue swing coat completes the Easter Parade fashion.

The half hat is seen better in this close-up photo.

She strikes one final full-length pose.

Roman Holiday

I thought Roman Holiday would be a better fit for the auburn-haired doll as illustrated next.

Except for the full-length coat, this doll models all pieces of the Roman Holiday fashion: a red straw half hat, black-rimmed cat eyeglasses, a gold-tone chain necklace with a single pearl, the dress, a white patent-leather belt, a white patent-leather clutch, and black high-heeled shoes. I added pearl stud earrings.

I wrapped her hands with plastic wrap to prevent the stiletto fingernails from snagging the inside lining of the coat sleeves.

This full-length red and white striped coat with tiny gold bead buttons completes the Roman Holiday ensemble.

The Roman Holiday and Easter Parade Barbie fashions are modeled by ponytail Barbie clones in a full-length photo.

This is a close-up of this stunning pair.

 

The back of the 35th Anniversary Barbie Keepsake box illustrates two vintage Barbies wearing Roman Holiday (1959 #968) and Easter Parade (1959 #971).

After redressing concluded, I placed the ponytail clones in the 35th Anniversary Barbie Keepsake box along with the (now dressed) 1960s Wendy by Uneeda.

In this photo, the ponytail dolls are not in the box on the sides that match the fashion names printed on the box cellophane (Easter Parade and Roman Holiday).

I removed the dolls from the box and repositioned them so that the fashions they wear match the fashion names printed on the box.

*The 35th Anniversary Barbie Special Edition Booklet includes a note from Ruth Handler, information about the redesigned 35th Anniversary Barbie (which my friend replaced with the 1960s Wendy), and photos of three Barbies that were available when this set was released: Evening Extravaganza (the white doll's photo and stock number and the black doll's stock number only), Bob Mackie Barbie, and 1850s Southern Belle Barbie. Barbie Trivia Q&A, and Barbie's 35th Anniversary Family Tree of Barbie and friends are also in the booklet.
