Fab Fringe Gets a Little Edgy

After she arrived as a birthday gift from my son last year, Fab Fringe (the tall redhead Barbie with the short Afro shown above) remained in her original unflattering clothes:  floral front, long-sleeve shirt, denim shorts, and black booties.  Later in the year, I purchased three Black Dolls Matter T-shirts from the Etsy shop of the same name.  Fab Fringe replaced her original top with one of those T-shirts and continued wearing her denim shorts and booties with it, as seen here.  Because of her short hair and the need for earrings, I pierced her ears shortly after she arrived, after which she wore gold hoop earrings.

After Zig and Zag (or ZiZi) borrowed Fab Fringe's gold hoops, I made a pair of earrings for Fab Fringe by removing two crosses from an inexpensive necklace and adding earring hook wires to each.

Her new earrings suit her well.

What gives Fab Fringe her edginess is the black leggings she now wears underneath a black skirt made from a headband and of course her Black Dolls Matter T-shirt.  Initially, she was going to wear the skirt without the leggings, but the stretch of the fabric made it see-through.  She slipped on the leggings to avoid being that edgy.

Fab Fringe is going to a protest rally that will be held outside the headquarters of a major doll manufacturer. It will be a peaceful protest, but her presence alone, coupled with her attire along with the other ladies who will accompany her, should send the proper message to the doll company that their lines should reflect the society in which we live.  Their concern is the lack of African American male dolls.  Where are they?  The ladies want to know.

The ladies who will join Fab Fringe are Emoji Fun Barbie, ZiZi, Tamica, and Musician Barbie. Take a look at their signs.

Fab Fringe's sign reads:  Black Male Dolls Matter
"Mass Produce August Joel Tate" is Emoji Fun Barbie's request.

ZiZi agrees males are needed but she wants articulation!
Tamica, who sometimes spells her name "Tamika," lies on the ground with her sign that reads, "Where are the Male Dolls?"

Musician Barbie is asking for an AA Silkstone male.

These ladies want the men represented and they want them now!

While their protest is for more Black male dolls, they realize representation in doll form for everyone matters.  Black dolls matter, Asian dolls matter, Latino dolls matter, Native American dolls matter, indigenous dolls of other areas matter, etc., etc., etc.

New 'Do, New Clothes For Musician Barbie

To create a sleeker look, Musician Barbie's hair (which looked like this originally and like this after brushing it) was restyled into two-strand twists as shown above.

After wetting it, I started from the neck area and moved up by parting several horizontal sections and separating each into tiny twists until all hair was twisted. Before twisting each section, I applied Eco Styler Olive Oil Styling Gel, which resulted in a very light hold and sheen; it does not make the hair stiff.

After hair twisting, Barbie's ears were pierced using white-tipped quilting pins. These were inserted into each lobe in an upward angle as shown below:
Inserting the pins at an upward angle, as illustrated, prevents possible piercing of the face or other unwanted area on the opposite side.

With ears pierced and new hairstyle, Barbie strikes a pose.

Next, we both wanted to see how she would look in some of the Sparkle Girlz fashions purchased last year and as recent as last week.

These were purchased last year.

Musician Barbie looks these over to see which ones she likes best.

Purchased last week
Barbie and I discovered one of the most recent Sparkle Girlz fashions is a duplicate of one purchased last year.
These were two that interested Barbie, but they are both cut too small for her frame.  The back Velcro closure does not meet.  These are probably better suited for a petite Barbie.

She tried on a one-shoulder multicolored dress, which has a handkerchief hemline.   The hem length is perfect from the front, but not from the back.  She would not be able to bend over without exposing herself.   The black closed-toe heels she wears came with the dress.

This is the same dress worn with a different shoe, a close-up of which is shown next:

This shoe is from a Barbie shoe accessory pack.
The same black Barbie shoe is worn with this two-piece Sparkle Girlz fashion.  The top has a geometric pattern while the faux suede skirt is fringed.

Exposing her belly button, Barbie now wears a brightly colored midriff top and denim short-shorts.  The orange heels are from the same Barbie accessory pack as the black shoes.

More short-shorts, these are trimmed with tiny orange pom-poms.  The lacy top is made of knit.  She elected to wear the same orange Barbie shoes she wore with the previous fashion.

The same fashion is worn with her own high-top sneakers.

Finally, just because the skirt is orange, Barbie wanted to try on an even older Sparkle Girlz fashion that has been here for more than a year.
Bright colors complement her complexion, but she looks great in everything she tried.  Which one do you think she likes the best?

New Articulated Musician Barbie

All photos are Internet captured.

Amazon has this doll labeled as "Barbie Girls Music Activity Playset."  For the past couple of days, quantities have been in and out of stock.  I managed to find one in stock yesterday and placed an order.  Currently, Amazon Prime customers can enjoy free shipping and a cost of $19.99 + tax for this articulated, dark skinned musician Barbie that comes with the items shown in the additional Internet-captured photos and as described below:
Accessories include:  guitar with strap, keyboard, stand, bench, sheet music, two mics, headphones, and water bottle, all for $19.99!
She's wearing white high-top sneakers with her blouse and skirt ensemble, which leads me to wonder about her feet.  Can she only wear flats or can she wear heels as well?  I'll post an update after my doll arrives.

Here is the direct link to the buy page where the full description can be read.

The doll is also available as a blonde, which, when last checked, was available to order.  See her here.
