Ruby Red Toys Doll Family

Voice of the Future Jada by Ruby Red Toys

In my previous post, my Mother's Day doll, Voice of the Future Jada from the Ruby Red Fashion Friends line was introduced. As promised, photos of Jada with my other Ruby Red Toys doll family are included in this post.

By the Sea Maya, James, and Jada pose together.

Maya, James, and Jada

By the Sea Maya is my first Ruby Red Fashion Friend doll by Ruby Red Toys. James is my second doll from this series. Jada is my third from the Fashion Friends series. Maya and James have removable wigs. Maya's original wig, as illustrated here, was replaced last year with the auburn wig that she wears now. Jada's wig is permanently attached.

The trio of Fashion Friends is joined by Kelsey, from Ruby Red Toys' Siblies line. Kelsey is Kayla's younger sister, but in my collection, she is Maya's little sister.

Illustrated in the next picture, two more Ruby Red Toys dolls complete my collection; my original Kelsey, seated on the right; and Create Your Dream Doll Mila.

Ruby Red Fashion Friends By the Sea Maya, James, Voice of the Future Jada, and my replaced Kelsey on the left are joined by my 1st Kelsey* and Create Your Dream Doll Mila.

I'm glad Voice of the Future Jada has joined the family of dolls that display well together as illustrated above.

Why Kelsey Was Replaced

My 1st Kelsey's eyes transformed from flawed violet in color to an eerie pale pink as illustrated on the left. I used acrylic paint to paint over the eyes as illustrated on the right.

*My first Siblies Kelsey was a Christmas gift from my son in 2021. The doll arrived with violet eyes. Because her hair has lavender lowlights, I thought the eyes were supposed to be violet. However, after Kelsey had been here for several months, her eyes continued to lighten to an eerie pale pink. Another collector informed me that her eyes were supposed to be brown. In 2023, I contacted Ruby Red Toys about the flawed eyes with proof of purchase, and they graciously and promptly replaced Kelsey. I was prepared to return the original doll, but they did not require that. To salvage the 1st Kelsey, I painted the eyes on a couple of occasions with acrylic paint in an attempt to achieve a "normal" look. My eye painting skills are crude, and I am not completely satisfied with the painted eyes, but they look much better than the pale pinkish color.

Create Your Dream Doll Mila

Create Your Dream Doll Mila is an 11-inch all-vinyl doll by Ruby Red Toys.

Mila is an 11-inch all-vinyl doll from the Create Your Dream Doll series by Ruby Red Toys. This doll series allows children to sketch a doll design and write the doll's story.

Mila's close-up illustrates her hair texture, eye color, and possibly her freckles.

Mila's dark brown wig is long and curly with bangs. She has blue inset eyes with painted upper eyelashes, and a light brown complexion with a splattering of freckles across her nose and below the eyes.

Mila is dressed casually and comes with a bi-fold card that tells her story.

She wears a white long-sleeved T-shirt with "Doll Mom" printed on the upper left front and a centered image of a camera that corresponds with Mila's doll influencer/blogger story. Light blue pants and red flat shoes complete her outfit. An illustrated bi-fold card tells Mila's story and includes the sketch that inspired the doll's creation.

As illustrated next, an 8.25 x 11.5-inch sheet of paper with an outline of a blank doll was included in Mila's box for the new owner to create and submit a sketch of their dream doll with an additional sheet to write their own story.

A faintly visible sketch of a doll is included on the above sheet that accompanied Mila to encourage the doll's owner to "create a dream doll."

Ruby Red Toys also included a lined sheet of paper for the would-be doll designer to write their doll's story.

Other Create Your Dream Dolls are featured on both sides and on the back of Mila's box as illustrated below.

This side of Mila's box illustrates Summer, Clara, Erik, Marina, and Erin.

Tanya, Jeanette, Vicky, and Mila are on the opposite side panel.

All nine dolls in the Create Your Dream Doll series are on the back of the box with an invitation for other children to create their very own dream doll.

Mila's Story (from the story card)
Mila is a 13-year-old girl living in New York City. She is a doll collector and a doll influencer. She loves writing doll reviews on her blog and posting photos that she has taken of her doll around her inspiring city.

Mila wanted to share love of dolls in her blog. She is learning that what others think is weird about someone is what makes them unique. She is also learning that people should do what they love and not care about what others think because, at the end of the day, you should just be yourself!

Mila's story mimics mine, although I am an adult "doll mom" (doll enthusiast and doll historian) that some have labeled as an influencer. I am definitely a doll blogger, which is why I related to this doll and wanted to add Mila to my collection. Ruby Red Toys' recent free shipping offer also influenced the purchase. The current free shipping promotion ends on 12/03/23 (December 3, 2023).

According to the front of Mila's story card, the doll's design and story are by Mal from the United States.  Young and old, we all have a right to be our authentic selves without considering what others think about us as long as what we do is legal and doesn't cause anyone harm. Additionally, while we are being ourselves, we should avoid judging others for doing the same thing as long as the aforementioned no-harm conditions exist.

Of note, the Create Your Dream Dolls can wear Ruby Red Siblies' clothes and shoes.

Below, Mila poses with Kelsey (a Siblie) and the rest of the Ruby Red dolls that live here, but first...

...Mila wanted to share my discovery that her feet are sculpted to accommodate sandals.

Mila poses with Kelsey from the Ruby Red Siblies collection. Even though Mila is shorter, she can wear Kelsey's clothes. Kelsey can wear sandals, too.

The entire Ruby Red dolls in my collection are from L-R James, Mila, Kelsey, and By the Sea Maya and her cloth doll.

James and Maya are from the higher-end Ruby Red Fashion Friends collection. Maya, whose wig and shoes have been changed, was introduced at the 73rd UFDC Convention in 2021. James and Maya are 14 inches tall with nine points of articulation. Mila has the usual five points of articulation only. Kelsey is 12 inches tall and also has nine points of articulation.

The Ruby Red gang posed for this final photo.

Ruby Red Fashion Friends James

A headshot of Ruby Red Fashion Friends James is on the front of his box.

James had been here for at least two weeks before I opened the box. I ordered him from his exclusive seller, Happily.com (see the link below the video). This blog post contains James' Excel entry, his initial photos and captions, and a video that provides more details about this handsome boy. Enjoy!

This is a full view of James' box.

Excel spreadsheet entry

Ruby Red Fashion Friends James is a 14-inch vinyl doll with 9-joints, a curly brown removable wig, a silicone wig cap, inset light brown glass eyes with upper eyelashes, and a closed mouth. Arrived wearing only underpants with clothing separately packaged for the owner to dress. Clothing includes a dapper pin-striped blue and white button-down shirt, matching tan waistcoat and trousers, and beige slip-on shoes that the manufacturer describes as gray. His accessories include a rich brown tie, a black leather-look belt, and a gray felt trilby hat ringed with a brown ribbon. Includes a certificate of authenticity that is numbered 003.

Initial Photos In and Out of the Box

James arrived wearing his white underpants. All clothing items were individually packaged.

He has such an adorable face.

He wears all clothing items except his gray hat in this photo and the next.

James is a perfect model.

The gray felt hat adds the final touch to his dapper look.

Before the following video was recorded, James posed for the camera.

By the Sea Maya

By the Sea Maya arrived in a beautiful box.

Sold as a limited-edition preorder before the 73rd UFDC Convention that was held in Baltimore, MD in July 2021, By the Sea Maya had a scheduled delivery of September 2021. However, due to circumstances beyond anyone's control, the September delivery did not happen. My doll arrived during the third week of November directly from the merchant, and she was well worth the wait.

Maya by the Sea is part of the Ruby Red Fashion Friends collection of 14-inch vinyl string-jointed dolls. Maya has nine joints. Produced in a limited edition of 125 as a UFDC convention exclusive and sold only through the Happily Ever After website, my doll is #6 in the edition. She arrived in a beautifully decorated box that has her headshot image on the front. I took the following photos prior to and after opening all of her individually packaged items.

Along with Maya and her doll's headshot image, limited edition is printed in the upper right corner of the front of the box.

Inside the box, Maya and her accessories were well protected and individually packaged.

With the packaged accessories removed, this is how Maya was carefully presented.

I took this close-up of her beautiful face before removing her from the box. Maya has a removable wig which is part of the packaged accessories shown next. She has applied upper eyelashes, painted lower eyelashes, hazel eyes, a closed mouth with coral lip color, and perfectly blushed cheeks.

Maya's clothing and accessories

Maya's clothing and accessories include a nautical white blouse and navy-blue pleated skirt with white knit socks that have two navy-blue stripes, white panties (already on the doll and not shown in this image), and white lace-up faux leather sneakers. She has a stuffed stockinette doll that has screen-printed features and socks. The doll wears a removable nautical dress. Accessories also include a blonde-streaked brown curly wig for Maya and a numbered certificate of authenticity.

An image of By the Sea Maya and her dolly is on the front of the certificate of authenticity.

By the Sea Maya and the separately-sold Kayla are featured on the back of the certificate of authenticity.

The back of the certificate of authenticity reads, "This certificate warrants that your RubyRedFashionFriends By the Sea Maya 2021 special edition is original and authentic. The owner of this doll and certificate is the owner of one of 125 limited dolls in the world. No. 0006"

Maya's doll is 4-inches tall. Her dress is removable.

14-inch all-vinyl string-jointed By the Sea Maya poses with her 4-inch stockinette doll.

The two dolls pose together in this view from the back.

Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy your day, and stay safe.
