Xian Xian Doll 2

A boxed Xian Xian doll arrived from China with other items in this plastic mailer.

The doll's box was covered with a tight layer of styrofoam.

The styrofoam did not prevent damage to the box as illustrated here and in the next photo.

The top corner of the "Looks" box was crumbled during shipping.

The doll's name and skin color are included on the back of the box as "Supermodel doll" and "Black" respectively.

The doll was attached to a "Xian Xian Princess" printed red box liner. (The liner took some hits during shipping.)

Thankfully, this doll does not have the bent leg flaw that my first doll has. 

Both dolls use the same head sculpt. This one's darker lip color makes her look slightly different. See the comparison photo later in this post.

I ordered these three mix-and-match fashions which include shoes as shown.

Denim Skirt Ensemble

The fishtail denim skirt ensemble includes a sparkly gold halter top with a gold neck chain, an aqua mock-tweed knit coat, aqua high heels, and dark sunglasses.

Supermodel Miya wears the complete denim skirt ensemble.

In this photo, the knit "tweed" coat is removed.

Knit "Tweed" Skirt Ensemble

The next ensemble includes an aqua mock-tweed knit jacket, matching skirt, and oversized cap with a white cotton crop top, and a larger denim purse with a gold bead and pearl shoulder strap.

Miya models the complete "tweed" knit skirt ensemble.

The "tweed" ensemble is modeled without the jacket.

Again, without the knit "tweed" jacket, Miya models the oversized cap, the COC logoed crop top, and the denim shoulder bag that has Xian Xian in red letters printed on the front.

Denim Pants Ensemble

The last fashion includes pleated baggy denim pants, a sparkly gold halter with yellow ribbon ties, an oversized white shirt, an aqua knit "tweed" hobo purse, a gold bead and pearl necklace/waist chain, and black slingbacks.

Miya models the complete denim pants ensemble.

To get Miya's hands through the small cuff holes, the hand was first wrapped with a plastic candy wrapper (that's what I had nearby without going to the kitchen to get Saran wrap). Without the plastic wrapping, her stiletto fingernails poked the fabric and thread inside the sleeves and cuffs. 

The two Miyas are seen in a comparison photo. They share the same head sculpt. Braided-hair Miya's darker lip color gives her a slightly different (and better in my opinion) appearance.

The Two Miya Supermodels

Miya #2 continues to wear the aqua knit "tweed" suit while Miya #1 wears the denim fishtail skirt because of its maxi length to cover the bent leg issue. 

Miya #1 mixed and matched some of the accessories with the denim skirt as illustrated next.

The denim skirt is worn with a gold halter, and the Xian Xian denim purse is held backward to hide the XX logo. Gold stud earrings complete this look.

Here, the denim skirt is worn with black slingbacks.

Miya chose to replace the slingbacks with black open-toe high heels.

In this last photo, the necklace/waist chain is worn as a waist chain to add some pizzazz to the denim skirt fashion. 

I am pleased with the 2nd Xian Xian Supermodel's lip color and the braid quality.  Will I order the third doll with curly hair? Probably not. These two are enough.

#SnapStar Dawn

#SnapStar Dawn

There are some new articulated 9-1/2-inch all-vinyl dolls by Yulu on the scene called #SnapStar available at Walmart.  My doll's name is Dawn.   She has the deepest complexion of the six dolls, five of which are featured at the top of their Instagram page.

The six #SnapStar dolls are illustrated on the side of Dawn's box.

They are Dawn, Echo, Aspen, Lola, Yuki, and Izzy.  Izzy has a medium tan complexion.

There are separately sold fashions for the #SnapStar dolls.

While at Walmart, I purchased three of the six separately-sold fashions.  Two that I left are made of shimmery fabric that I do not care for.  The other is a cute white dress with white  Roman sandals that I should have purchased.

Dawn has brown stationary eyes and a brown, removable wig.  She wears a white satin blouse which is attached to black satin shorts.  She also wears a black satin jacket and black high-heel booties.  Black vinyl drop earrings and the black vinyl handbag she carries complete her look.  A cellphone, foldable green screen wall, and a green doll stand are also included.

The concept is to snap (photograph), style (using makeup and styling features of the app which is available in the App Store or Google Play) and share on Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, and other social media outlets.

Each doll has a theme and a brief bio.  Dawn's bio reads:

Fashion Diva! Dawn is a high-powered, high-fashion diva who only settles for the best – she knows what she wants and always gets it! Want to know where the party is? Call Dawn!

Dawn took her first photo outside the box using the green screen wall as the background.

In addition to the usual five points of articulation, the area underneath the mature bosom is articulated along with the elbows, wrists, knees, and ankles.

Dawn wears a 9-inch Bratz fashion and petite Barbie shoes.

I was unable to remove Dawn's black booties until I dipped her shoed feet into boiled water to loosen up the vinyl of the boots.  This might be a flaw that is isolated to my doll only, but quite possibly is not.

As illustrated in the photo immediately above, she can wear 9-inch Bratz clothes, but not the shoes because she has a full foot which is arched.  In the above photo, she wears a pair of flat shoes made for petite Barbie.

#SnapStar and LIV Comparison

Head sculpt comparison between LIV Alexis and Yulu's Dawn; Dawn's nose is a little broader than Alexis' nose.  Her chin is slightly narrower than Alexis'.

#SnapStar dolls look very similar to Spinmaster's LIV dolls.  Dawn is shorter and has a broader nose.  Like LIV, they even have painted hair underneath their removable wigs as illustrated next.

Dawn's wig has a vinyl prong in the center.

Like LIV dolls, there is a hole in the center of Dawn's head where the wig prong attaches to the head.

They can wear each other's wig.

The fiber quality of Dawn's wig is inferior to that of  LIV wigs.  The poor quality of the wig and the shoe issue are the only two cons.  The shoe issue is more bothersome than the less than desirable wig quality.

Cheap Thrill from China

Fashion doll from China with Afro and articulated body

On Amazon and in actual photos taken by other collectors, I had seen dolls with this doll's head sculpt, huge Afro hairstyle, dressed in a black cropped blouse and ethnic-print skirt.  On Amazon, prices varied between four and six dollars.  I had also seen a doll with a different (not as pretty, in my opinion) head sculpt wearing the same fashion (with two skirt color choices like this one).  Seeing them was all I had done, until recently.

While shopping on Aliexpress with a gift card that had a few dollars remaining, I decided to take the plunge and order this doll wearing the red/green/orange/white-print skirt.

Within a couple of weeks, she arrived inside a clear plastic bag (as shown in the first photo) having been shipped in an unpadded plastic mailer!  Without any protective cushioning, I was shocked the doll survived the trip from China to the US, but she did.

Removed from the plastic baggie, the doll's face is as pretty as the online photos illustrated and as my next photo illustrates.

She has nicely textured, thick, and closely rooted hair made of soft fibers.  She has brown eyes and a smiling mouth with the suggestion of teeth.

Articulation is included underneath the breast area, which can slightly move up, down, left, or right.  The elbows, wrists, and knees are articulated.  Why pink shoes were paired with the dark-colored fashion remains a mystery.

The pink shoes were replaced with a pair of black high heels.  Like her body, her legs are quite thin.

Part of the white Velcro that closes the top is exposed and the waist of the skirt is too big.   

I trimmed the edges of exposed Velcro so less of it would be visible.  I temporarily tightened the fit of the skirt at the waist with a quilting pin.  Later, I will replace the white Velcro with black Velcro and position the new Velcro on the skirt so the waist fits the doll properly.

The original silver-painted plastic necklace and earrings were replaced, tossed actually.  She now wears goldtone drop earrings (which her hair covers) and goldtone hair jewelry for locs or braids that she wears as a choker and upper arm bracelet.  She still wears her original silver wrist bracelet.

China Doll (I guess that's what I will name her) poses in a close-up here.

China Doll and Fresh Dolls' Mia are about the same complexion; China Doll's face is slightly lighter but their bodies are the same color.

These two display well together.

For $5.03 with free shipping, China Doll provided as much of a new-doll cheap thrill as I expected.
