Was Radiant Child Remi Inspired by another Radiant Child?

Radiant Child Remi™ Dressed Fashion Figure from The Dynamite Girls® Plastic Inevitable Collection will be produced in a limited edition of 300 dolls worldwide.  He's a must-have for me.  Get a closer look below.

One blogger wrote:  "The Plastic Inevitable Collection is inspired by New York's bustling art and counter-culture scene of the late 1960s and early 1980s" (this may be Integrity's description).   After Googling "Integrity Radiant Remi," I found info on the film, Jean-Michel Basquiat : The Radiant Child.  I immediately recalled viewing a movie about the life of this American artist who was closely affiliated with Andy Warhol and wondered if Integrity's "Radiant Child" was inspired by Jean-Michel Basquiat.  Andy Warhol... hmmm...

I posed this question to members of my doll group.  One member agreed that the "fashion figure" was probably inspired by the artist.  She further suggested that Heart of Glass Aria's name is probably from Deborah Harry & Blondie's song."  Does Downtown Darling Jett represent Debbie Harry?  My "hmmm" above resulted from my thought that Most Beautiful Boy Auden Fashion Figure was inspired by Andy Warhol!  If I am correct about this, I'd like to know who/what inspired Rock Candy Rufus.  See the entire collection below:
From Left to Right:  Heart of Glass Aria (name possibly inspired by the Blondie song); Most Beautiful Boy Auden (possibly inspired by Andy Warhol); Downtown Darling Jett (possibly inspired by Debbie Harry); Radiant Child Remi (possibly inspired by Jean-Michel Basquiat, my must have); and Rock Candy Rufus (inspiration unknown).

The dolls and "fashion figures" have an estimated delivery of mid-to-late May 2011 with a suggested retail price of $59.99 US.  If you plan to preorder, from whom will you do so?

  1. Also, the name of the entire collection was taken from Andy Warhol's series of parties called the Exploding Plastic Inevitable. You can read more about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exploding_Plastic_Inevitable

Radiant Child is also the iconic art piece by Keith Haring: http://www.artbrokerage.com/artthumb/haring_6210_2/850x600/Keith_Haring_Radiant_Child___Icon_Suite.jpg

And the Most Beautiful Boy seemed to be based on Andy Warhol's Screen tests: http://www.warholstars.org/warhol/warhol1/warhol1f/links/boys.html

As for Rock Candy, I'm stumped!

  3. One of the Warhol Superstars was named Candy Darling. I'm thinking that Rock Candy Rufus is a tip of the hat to her.

    2. I found this information on the Plastic Inevitable Collection absolutely fascinating! Heart of Glass Aria is the only doll I mentally connected to Debbie Harry, but never realized the entire collection is a Warhol style tribute. That makes it twice as cool as it already is. I wish I'd been collecting IT dolls back when this collection was released, these dolls are nearly impossible to find/afford now. I sure wish they'd do a reissue of at least the hommes. I need this Remi/Radiant Child in my collection!
