Jockel by Andrea Jansen

Jockel is a 17-inch European vinyl doll made by Andrea Jansen in 1993.

Donated to DeeBeeGee's Virtual Black Doll Museum by Ms. Linda Kimmel, Jockel arrived with another doll donation. Because Jockel's German doll artist used the darker European vinyl, the doll could be considered Black. However, because that was not the artist's intent for the doll’s ethnicity, I cannot install Jockel in the museum where only authentically Black dolls are installed. I have, instead, incorporated Jockel into my private collection where she will be enjoyed.

Jockel's sleeping cap matches her two-piece pajamas.

Made in 1993, Jockel is 19 inches tall and weighs approximately two pounds. She is made from the darker European vinyl on her arms, legs, and head. The firm, white cloth body is weighted. She has brown glass eyes with real human hair eyelashes and a straight auburn mohair wig. Wearing a white knit pajama top that has a tiny light blue polka dot print, white cotton pajama pants, and a sleeping cap that both have matching polka dots, Jockel is ready for bed.  Jockel's neck marks read:
1993 / Andrea Jansen / Jockel

Jockel's straight mohair wig is auburn as are her painted eyebrows.

About the Artists: Doll artists and German twin sisters Petra Jackle and Andrea Jensen began making limited-edition dolls with character faces in 1991.

It is unknown if the sisters collaborated on Jockel's creation since the neck is signed only by Petra. It is also unknown if the twins made dolls that they considered Black. My research shows the sisters only made dolls that use dark European vinyl.

Thank you, again,  Ms. Kimmel, for the doll gifts!
