Barbie Looks Model 10 Again

Barbie Signature Collection Model 10 is back.

Barbie Looks Model 10 from the Barbie Signature Collection returns for comparison photos with other ebony-complexioned dolls, to make note of a couple of things I did not mention or illustrate in my previous post, and to show off her newly pierced ears and earrings.

Let's begin with the ear piercing and earrings.

I found these awareness-ribbon-shaped faux diamond-encrusted earrings at a dollar store. This and one other similar pair of hoops were the only ones that appealed to me for the doll (they are not something I would personally wear).

I used the earring posts to pierce her earlobes and guided the posts into the lobes without a problem.

The back of her bone straight hair, which was not illustrated in the previous post, is illustrated above.

Mention was made of her silver ankle boots, but a close-up photo was not included in the previous post. The boots have block heels and are the same style (but different color) as the boots worn by Model 6 from this series.

Model 10 loves to pose without even being asked.
The Comparisons

There are a minimum of two photos for each comparison (a close-up and a full-length view). The differences in the shades of their heads/faces are apparent without the dolls' heads touching. In the pictures, the dolls' arms are close or touching. Use the arms as a body complexion comparison reference.

Fashionistas 125 and 90 (both are redressed with repainted lips) compare their complexions with Model 10.

Model 10 towers so much over these two that she had to slump down for this picture.

Princess of South Africa (redressed) poses with Model 10.

Barbie Basics Model No. 4 Collection 001 (redressed) poses with Model 10.

Close-up of Model 10 (Simone) and Barbie Basics Model No. 4 (Goddess)

So far, Model 10 (Simone) has compared her complexion with that of other Mattel-made dolls. The last complexion comparison with a non-Mattel doll also illustrates quality differences.

Model 10 and Keeki Adaeze by Integrity toys posed for comparison photos. Keeki is surprisingly taller.

Their body complexions are close. Keeki's face coloring matches the color of her body better.

The sculpting and mechanism of Keeki's hands and knee joints are hands-down much better than Model 10's. Model 10's index through ring fingers are fused, and her nails are not manicured. All of Keeki's fingers are separate with stiletto-sculpted and painted fingernails.

It's well known that the quality of Integrity Toys dolls is superior to Mattel's. You get what you pay for holds true. The question is, do you want to pay $100 for a doll of superior quality or $20 for one and derive almost the same amount of pleasure? It's a no-brainer for me.

Who has the prettier face?

Both dolls are lovely. Changes or additions to Model 10 that I would suggest to improve quality and appearance: eliminate the odd grayish jawbone blushing that makes the skin appear "ashy" and match the head and body coloring, manicure the nails, and create a sleeker appearance at the elbow and knee joints. Separate the fingers to add realism; however, finger separation is not a definite requirement for me.

After the ear piercing and complexion comparison photographs, Model 10 needed some "me-time." (I did, too!)

Buy her at retail while quantities remain:

Barbie Fashionistas #90 and #80 Box Free

Barbie Fashionistas #90 (Rainbow Bright/Ryan) and #80 (Cheerful Check/CeeCee)
The above two Barbie Fashionistas #90 and #80 have been deboxed.  I was surprised to find that the back of Fashionista #90 (Ryan's) dress is purple.

Ryan models the front and back of her rainbow-colored dress which, as indicated, is purple in the back.  Ryan also has very nice, silky, bone straight hair.

The back of CeeCee's dress is the same as the front:
CeeCee models the front and back of her dress.  The heels of her red vinyl shoes are flimsy; one heel was already bent upon arrival.
Complexion comparisons between Ryan and five different dark-skinned Barbies are shown below followed by Ryan and CeeCee modeling Sparkle Girlz fashions.

Ryan's Complexion Comparisons

Ryan's complexion is darker than So In Style Chandra's.

Ryan's complexion is slightly lighter than Model of the Moment Nichelle's.  Ryan would be frozen into the ModelMuse position if this body were swapped for hers.

Musician Barbie's complexion is lighter than Ryan's. This would not be a good body swap for articulation.

Another close, but not exact, complexion match is Barbie Basics Collection 1, Model No. 4.

The complexions of Ryan and Princess of South Africa Barbie are also close, but not exact.

I do not own any articulated Barbies with complexions that match Ryan's unique deep ebony skin tone.  I was asked if Made to Move Camp/Hiking Barbie's complexion matches.  I do not own that doll but I reached out to someone who does.  Dreamer Dolls allowed me to use the following photo:

AA Camp/Hiking Barbie's articulated body does not match Ryan's complexion as illustrated in this photo courtesy of DreamerDolls.net.  Please see an articulated body suggestion below the fashion show.*

Ryan and CeeCee Swap Clothes and Model Sparkle Girlz Fashions

Ryan wears CeeCee's shirt dress comfortably; however, the rainbow dress is a loose fit on CeeCee.

The two look very nice in the first of the six different Sparkle Girlz fashions.  Before dressing her in this fashion, CeeCee's ears were pierced.  She now wears tiny gold-tone hoop earrings that are on a straight post.  I used the posts to pierce her earlobes.

I tried the floral print dress with side cutouts on CeeCee first.  I like the fit of it on Ryan better.  The dress CeeCee wears was a nice fit on Ryan, too.

This faux blouson one-piece pants set fits Ryan well.  The yellow striped top fits CeeCee, the waistline of the shorts is a little low.  If they are not pulled up high enough, CeeCee faux panty line is exposed.

Of the six Sparkle Girlz fashions, I like the girls in the third set.  Instead of redressing them in those, I opted for the following Sparkle Girlz fashions purchased in the past.

This fashion shows off CeeCee's more shapely legs.  Ryan's legs are thin and straight.

*If you desire an articulated body for Rainbow Bright Fashionista #90 and are unable to find a manufactured one that matches the head color, dye a body using brown Idye Poly or Rit Dyemore.  The brown in both formulations is rather dark.  The longer the body is left in the dye, the darker it will become.  You can either use a brown body and dip it for a few seconds or a white body and leave it in the dye bath a few minutes until the color deepens.  If I were to do this, to have a headstart in color deepening, I would dye a brown articulated body.

I used brown IDye Poly to dye the heads of these dolls.

Barbie Silkstone Comparisons for Maricha

Arm in arm, Lingerie Barbie #5 and City Chic Suit Barbie

I was going to add complexion comparison images to my previous post, which includes photos of City Chic Suit Silkstone Barbie.  This separate post was created instead due to the amount of photos and because comparisons were made between several dolls.

City Chic Suit's complexion was compared with the 2002 Lingerie Barbie #5 (the first AA Silkstone Barbie), with the 1959 Debut Barbie (2009), and with 2012 Fuchsia 'N Fur Francie.

2002 Lingerie Barbie dressed as a nurse (she is my perfect stand in for the 2006 Barbie Fan Club-exclusive Nurse Barbie).

Lingerie Barbie #5 and City Chic Suit

City Chic (CC) Suit's caramel complexion is slightly deeper than Lingerie Barbie #5's, but I believe if anyone wanted to use CC Suit as a body donor for Lingerie #5, they could.

******

1959 Debut Barbie and City Chic Suit

The complexion differences between the 1959 Debut Barbie and City Chic Suit are very subtle.
******
City Chic and Fuchsia 'N Fur Francie

CC Suit and Fuchsia 'n Fur Francie's complexions closely match.  Here again, if anyone wanted to articulate this Francie using CC Suit's body, they could.

Note to Maricha:  I mistakenly wrote in my comment that I own two of the Lingerie Barbie #5's. I only own one.  For some reason I had forgotten my ownership of the 1959 Debut Barbie, which is the doll that remains in her box with my one and only Lingerie Barbie being the one used to replicate the 2006 Barbie Fan Club-exclusive Nurse Barbie.

I hope this helps!

Fashion Madness Kenya Complexion Comparisons

L-R:  Light, medium, and dark Fashion Madness Kenya Dolls:  Movin On, Rock Star, and Fireside Chat

For those considering the use of Fashion Madness Kenya dolls as articulated body donors, the following images should prove helpful in selecting the right donor for your recipients (click any photo to enlarge).

Movin On Kenya's complexion closely resembles AA Stardoll's light complexion, although Kenya is slightly lighter.

Rock Star's complexion closely matches Barbie Basics Model 8's medium complexion.

Fire Side Chat's deep complexion is a close match for S.I.S. Chandra.
I hope this helps!

Ken-Jacob, Ken-Darren, Ken-Ken Comparisons

Reader, what say you?  Do you think Denim Ken (left) from the Barbie Basics Collection 002 shares the same head sculpt as Mattel's Twilight Jacob (right)?

The following images are complexion comparisons between Denim Ken and So In Style Darren; Denim Ken and Bath-Play-Fun Ken; and a final image of the three together to illustrate their complexion variations.
