She Wants to Know Her ID and So Do I

In my Janay Kick post, I mentioned my desire for a darker skinned Janay with natural textured hair.  Well I found one, but she came to me deboxed; therefore, I have no clue about her true ID.

Mystery dark-skinned Janay by Integrity Toys ©2004

Janay's outfit appears original:  Orange tank top, white one-layered skirt with attached crinoline that has glittery stars applied, and black and white striped tote.  I'm not sure if the orange shoes are original.  Her black curly hair is held away from her face with a black rubber band.  I fluffed the ends to create the look of a curly 'fro.

Her hang tag reads, Janay (on front)

Janay shows off her new stud earrings.

I added adhesive backed amethyst studs prior to redressing her and replacing these ear studs with tiny adhesive backed crystals.

The stick-on crystal studs were part of a lash art package purchased from a beauty supply shop.  I wanted to give her the appearance of a pierced nose with one, but they are too large.

Janay has been redressed in a winter white halter dress, stick-on crystal studs, gold clutch, and gold high-heel shoes.

Janay asks:  Do you know who I am?

I ask the same question.

Thanks in advance!

  2. Congratulations, DBG! She is Fashion Fling Janay! I have her and her lighter "sister." In her original top, skirt, and with the original tote bag. I don't think that the shoes are the originals. Both "sisters" that I have came with white slop on sandals. Here's a link to her deboxed. Year 2004.

  3. Oops ... meant "slip on" sandals. Blush.

    1. Thank you for helping us, D7ana! New question, now that I know she is Fashion Fling Janay from 2004: Did Integrity produce a series of Fashion Fling dolls? I have what I believe is their first Fashion Fling Janay and Tariq from 2001. They are dressed in tropical fashions. Both have a honey complexion and Janay has blonde hair that is crimped. I would like to know how many other FF dolls are out there.

BTW, before your correction, I wondered what "slop on" sandals were. :-)

  4. Hi BDE!

    LOL @"Slop on" sandals.

Yes, "Fashion Fling" was a wave or line of Janay and friends that lasted for a few years. In that same photo with "Pierre Janay" and his "daughters," all of those Janays were "Fashion Fling" Janays.

Such richness, yes? Much confusion, also, lol. A later wave/line of Janay and friends dolls was the "Studio It" dolls. Multiple dolls produced under that header. Lovely variation so there were several SI Janays, several SI Alysas, and even a few SI Jades.

Also, in the beginning the dolls were not lumped together. Alysa was like her own brand; Janay another. Then, they began to have "Janay and Friends" on the boxes.

You are welcome to any help I can provide. I LOVED this series during the 2000s; I was not as aware of the earlier dolls. The big-heads caused me to overlook them.

    1. Thanks again, D7ana. The lines or waves can get confusing when the roles change and names of the waves change. I am glad I now know this Janay's ID thanks to you and Cleve.

  5. She looks so pretty redressed! I have her. I definitely need to redress her. Her hair was what attracted me to her. I didn't necessarily care for her makeup, but your girl looks really pretty.

    1. I wasn't too thrilled about her light eyeshadow at first, but after the redress, it's not so bad. Thanks GG!

  6. I bought several of these on clearance at Walgreens circa 2005. Yours looks very pretty re-dressed. I have upgraded mine to a dark-skinned articulated Kenya body. Thanks to you and D7ana for clarifying the different waves of Janay dolls.

    1. I didn't particularly care for Janay until recently so I missed out on previous discounts when the playline was being phased out.

I considered upgrading this Janay to an extra dark-skinned Kenya body that I have. I might do that later or sacrifice one of my SIS bodies for her.

  7. She looks great in that white dress and stud earrings. I think the nose ring is a great idea. Hope you find one small enough. I knew D7ana would know who she was.

    1. Thanks, Vanessa! I'll keep looking for a "stud" small enough for her nose piercing. Maybe those made for nail art might work. We'll see.
