eBay doll purchases from January 2023 through May 11, 2023

I began reviewing and publishing blog posts that feature past eBay doll purchases dating back to October 2020. This post features purchases made on January 18, 2023; March 23, 2023; and May 11, 2023.

Heidi Ott Doll with Braids

Part of the Heidi Ott Little One's collection, this eBay doll purchase was made on January 18, 2023. The auction thumbnail photo had been deleted when I captured the "delivered" image detailed. Johnna Art Doll

On March 23, 2023, I found a Johnna Art Doll by Barbara Buysee at a price I was willing to pay. These dolls usually sell for several hundred dollars. This adorable boy displays well with dolls from my cloth doll collection, as illustrated in the next two photos. 

This doll by Barbara Buysee stands out among the rest.

The sad boy is seen once again.

Three 1950s hard plastic dolls

Three 1950s hard plastic head-turning walkers were purchased on May 11, 2023. The black doll, a 1950s Roberta walker, piqued my interest the most. The other two came along as temporary companions. All three needed major to minor restoration. The black doll's restoration was minor.

Heidi Ott Little Ones

This is the second doll to arrive in 2023. I've vowed to decrease my doll purchases this year due to lack of space, but I'm sure there will be a few desires and must-haves like this doll (and the re-imagined Disney princesses).

The Heidi Ott doll, offered on eBay in a best-offer auction, tempted me to submit a best offer, which was accepted. I know she is probably one of the later 1990s-released Little Ones, because her hang tag reads "Made in China." According to another eBay seller, this doll's name is Simone.

Simone is shown with Charlie, another Heidi Ott Little Ones collection doll.

This doll shares the same head sculpt as Charlie, but Charlie was most likely an earlier release. His hang tag and my other Little Ones' hang tags do not have "Made in China" on them. 

Unlike the other Little Ones, Simone wears socks and shoes. The others have bare feet.

A different eBay seller of an identical doll indicated the doll was originally sold on the shopping channel, QVC. I have not been able to substantiate this.

Heidi Ott's Charlie a New Boy in Town

Charlie by Heidi Ott, made in Switzerland in 1997, recently arrived brand new, never removed from his original box.

While browsing eBay for Heidi Ott auctions, I stumbled upon this boy that I had seen recently in a photo shared by another happy collector who recently acquired him.  At that time and still now, I marveled at his face because he reminds me of my brother.  Lucky for me, the price was very reasonable and the auction was a buy it now; so I did just that. 

Charlie has been released from his box.

Charlie is from Heidi Otti's 1997 handmade "Little Ones" series.  He is 12 inches tall and has a natural-textured human hair wig, vinyl head, arms and legs, and a stuffed cloth body.  A small area of his upper arms and upper legs is stuffed cloth.

Charlie has hand-painted brown eyes and a beautifully sculpted face.

He is wearing a mushroom color genuine suede vest, a green and tan plaid hooded cotton jacket, red knit short sleeve shirt and dark green pants.  His feet are bare.

Charlie's red sleeveless shirt is worn underneath his green/tan/red plaid cloth hoodie.

He has a nonremovable handkerchief in the mock pocket of his suede vest.

Charlie is marked on back of his neck, "Swiss Design Heidi Ott."  He is a welcome addition to my collection and has now met the others that are here from this series.

Meeting the Others

Charlie met Tom #1 first.  Tom was purchased during the late 1990s shortly after he was released to the market.

Next Charlie met Leonie.  Leonie, also from the late 1990s, arrived in 2017.

8-inch Baby Harry was introduced to Charlie next.  

Finally, my other Tom and Saddie, who arrived with Tom #1 during the late 1990s, met Charlie.

 All the barefoot little ones joined together to take this final picture before returning to their separate areas of display or boxes.  Tom #1 and Saddie remain on display.  I do still have their original boxes.  Baby Harry returned to his original box.  Tom #2 (a gift from a doll friend) and Leonie are kept in Tom #2's box.  Charlie will probably remain in his original box, too, unless he desires to spend some time on the shelf with Tom #1 and Saddie.

Heidi Ott Little Ones Leonie

As doll collectors, we have all found dolls offered for a price that was too good to refuse. This was the case with Leonie. The eBay seller offered her in a buy it now auction that also included the make offer feature. I made an offer, which was followed by the seller's counter offer that I accepted. Having retailed for about $100 during the late 1990s, Leonie is part of Swiss doll artist, Heidi Ott's Little Ones series of mostly 12-inch dolls with some smaller babies included in the line.

Leonie is made of artist vinyl with hand painted facial features.  She has a human hair wig styled in two side ponytails, the ends of which have multiple braids.  Her body is brown stockinette-type cloth.  Leonie wears her original dress, pants, and a threaded necklace which matches the ribbons in her hair.

Although they were manufactured around the same time (late 1990s), her twin sister, Saddie preceded Leonie's arrival here by several years.  Both girls share the same head sculpt.  I am not sure which doll was released first, Saddie or Leonie.  I first discovered Leonie in the November 2017 eBay auction.

Both Saddie and brother Tom were purchased shortly after the Little Ones series was released to the market during the late 1990s.  Tom and Saddie still have their original hang tags and both wear their original clothes.  All dolls were released with bare feet.

During a Secret Pal gift exchange in the mid 2000s, I received a duplicate Tom.  Tom #2 had remained in his original box until being released for the above photo.

Baby Harry, who has been part of the doll family since the early 2000s, joins the gang for a group photo. His clothing is all original as well.

Leonie is a welcome edition to the doll family.  Believed to have retired from doll making, Heidi Ott's last known dolls were miniatures.
